World Cup fans don fancy outfits to show support for their teams
(28 Jun 2018) STORYLINE:
Colourful and whacky fan costumes are a staple of the World Cup, particularly in the excitement of the group stage.
There was a party atmosphere among Swedes in Sochi ahead of their team's match against Germany (in which Germany would snatch a late victory).
One fan named John appeared to be dressed as a walking national flag, proclaiming that we do everything we can for the national team of Sweden.
For two other male Swedish supporters, drag was their costume of choice.
They said they'd been following Sweden around dressed as women at every tournament the team had played at since the World Cup in 2006.
Mexico's fans were among the most colourfully dressed of the tournament, and their eye-catching costumes were on full display ahead of their team's match against South Korea in Rostov.
Also in Rostov, one Mexican fan remained a few days later, and was attending the Croatia-Iceland match dressed a Lucha Libre Mexican wrestler.
Octavio Rodriguez, 38, said his costume was a key part of Mexican culture, and that visitors to Mexico could not properly experience the country without seeing a Lucha Libre match.
Ahead of the same match, a group of Russians showed up dressed as characters from a Russian sitcom - Ivan Vasilevich (Ivan the Terrible) Changes His Profession - aiming to show World Cup fans a different side of Russian culture.
Visit us often, they said. We will dress you all.
A group of Serbian fans came up with a 'super' way to spur on their team at the World Cup.
The 'Super Serbs' - dressed in Superman, Spiderman, Batman and Hulk costumes mixed with national symbols - have also been donning the same outfits since the 2006 World Cup.
They give us super powers, so it is impossible for us not to win, said Vladimir Mitrovic.
Cheering on the Swiss team, Basel and his friends came dressed in traditional alpine costumes.
They could be seen yodelling on the streets of Kaliningrad ahead of their team's victory over Serbia.
Finally, ahead of Uruguay's match against hosts Russia in Moscow, Diego and his friends kept it simple: big, spiky Uruguay hats.
It gives us a lot of luck, said Diego.
In that match, he was right: Uruguay won 3-0.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Odessa or Odesa (Ukrainian: Оде́са [oˈdɛsɐ] (listen); Russian: Оде́сса [ɐˈdʲesə]) is the third most populous city of Ukraine and a major tourism center, seaport and transport hub located on the northwestern shore of the Black Sea. It is also the administrative center of the Odessa Oblast and a multiethnic cultural center. Odessa is sometimes called the pearl of the Black Sea, the South Capital (under the Russian Empire and Soviet Union), and Southern Palmyra.
Before the Tsarist establishment of Odessa, an ancient Greek settlement existed at its location. A more recent Tatar settlement was also founded at the location by Hacı I Giray, the Khan of Crimea in 1440 that was named after him as Hacıbey. After a period of Lithuanian Grand Duchy control, Hacibey and surroundings became part of the domain of the Ottomans in 1529 and remained there until the empire's defeat in the Russo-Turkish War of 1792.
In 1794, the city of Odessa was founded by a decree of the Russian empress Catherine the Great. From 1819 to 1858, Odessa was a free port - porto-franco. During the Soviet period, it was the most important port of trade in the Soviet Union and a Soviet naval base. On 1 January 2000, the Quarantine Pier at Odessa Commercial Sea Port was declared a free port and free economic zone for a period of 25 years.
During the 19th century, Odessa was the fourth largest city of Imperial Russia, after Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Warsaw. Its historical architecture has a style more Mediterranean than Russian, having been heavily influenced by French and Italian styles. Some buildings are built in a mixture of different styles, including Art Nouveau, Renaissance and Classicist.Odessa is a warm-water port. The city of Odessa hosts both the Port of Odessa and Port Yuzhne, a significant oil terminal situated in the city's suburbs. Another notable port, Chornomorsk, is located in the same oblast, to the south-west of Odessa. Together they represent a major transport hub integrating with railways. Odessa's oil and chemical processing facilities are connected to Russian and European networks by strategic pipelines.
