Ayothaya Floating Market & Elephant Village (Ayutthaya)
Foreing visitors (farangs!) should pay a 200 baths entrance fee, including boat promenade. A very nice place to visit. Good place for eating. I recommand.
This floating market is one of the largest tourist sites in and around Ayutthaya province. The objective of this market is to help preserve and promote Thai arts and culture.

Floating market Bangkok | Ayutthaya ruins | Elephants
We went south of Bangkok to experience Damneom floating market and went all the way up north to see Ayutthaya ruins and the elephants. we spent close to 6 hours just for traveling, but it is all worth it.
We experienced the Bangkok traffic jam when we were on our way back to the hotel from Ayutthaya. It was supposed to be 1 hour and 30mins drive but it took us 3+ hours.
When you're in Thailand, don't miss these 3 destination. It's amazing.
Ayutthaya Historical Park : Elephant Village, Floating Market
Ayutthaya (พระนครศรีอยุธยา, or Ayudhya) is the former capital of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province in Thailand. Located in the valley of the Chao Phraya River.
Ayutthaya is named after the city of Ayodhya in India, the birthplace of Rama in the Ramayana
Ayutthaya was founded in 1351 King U Thong, who went there to escape a smallpox outbreak in Lop Buri and proclaimed it the capital of his kingdom, often referred to as the Ayutthaya kingdom or Siam. Ayutthaya became the second Siamese capital after Sukhothai

Ayutthaya Floating Market - Tour of this Amazing Market
Although this is not your typical floating market as you may have seen it in the pictures, a trip to Ayutthaya floating market is definitely worth your time. Just over an hour's drive from Bangkok, just north of downtown Ayutthaya, you will find this great Thai market which makes for an excellent day trip. Whilst you are enjoying the excellent Thai food, you can watch a show based on Thai traditional stories, enacted on the little lake surrounded by the food stalls. Feeding huge catfish and some scenic Thai village scenes complete a great day out of the city. อาณาจักรอยุธยา
Ayutthaya is 76 kilometres north of Bangkok and boasts numerous magnificent ruins. The ruins indicate that Ayutthaya was one of Southeast Asia's (and probably the world's) most prosperous cities in the 17th Century and beyond. Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Historical Park, a vast stretch of historical site in the heart of Ayutthaya city, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since December 13, 1991.
There were three palaces in Ayutthaya: Grand Palace, Chantharakasem Palace (the Front Palace) and Wang Lang (the Rear Palace). In addition, there were many other palaces and buildings for royal visits located outside Ayutthaya, such as the palace at Bang Pa-In and Nakhon Luang Building at Nakhon Luang.
In addition to the Elephant VIllage There is recently completed Ayutthaya's Floating Market , with over 200 shops
with daily attractions such as Thai Traditional Dancers , Water Trips . This is truly a Spectactular
Attraction to Ayutthaya .
Once considered the most spectacular city on Earth, the ruins of the capital of the Kingdom Ayutthaya are now a major tourist attraction easily accessible from Bangkok by car, train, or boat as either a daytrip or overnight excursion.
Ayutthaya is one of Thailand's historical and majestic highlights. The capital of Thailand, then known as the Kingdom of Ayutthaya, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya was a glorified as one of the biggest cities in Southeast Asia and a regional power for 417 years.

Ayutthaya had diplomatic relations with Louis XIV of France and was courted by Dutch, Portuguese, English, Chinese and Japanese merchants. During the 17th century, most foreign visitors to Ayutthaya, traders and diplomats alike, claimed Ayutthaya to be the most illustrious and glittering city that they had ever visited. The map of Ayutthaya published in 1691 by Simon de la Loubere in Du Royaume De Siam is proof of such recognition. Visitors can explore and appreciate Thai history in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, which is only 86 kilometers north of Bangkok. Visitors to Ayutthaya can marvel at its grandeur reflected through numerous magnificent temples and ruins concentrated in and around the city, which is located upon an island surrounded by the Chao Phraya, Pa Sak and Lopburi Rivers. Although there are numerous attractions, the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Historical Park in the heart of Ayutthaya city, is a UNESCO's World Heritage site and a wonder to behold.
The architecture of Ayutthaya is a fascinating mix of Khmer and early Sukhothai styles. Some cactus-shaped obelisks, called prangs, denote Khmer influence and look something like the famous towers of Angkor Wat. The more pointed stupas are ascribed to the Sukhothai influence. Ayutthaya is only located about 90 kilometers from Bangkok and can be visited on a daytrip; however, if you appreciate history and religious and historical monuments, an overnight stay will allow for two full days of sightseeing, including a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya, past the illuminated Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Historical Park, and a visit to only of the city's many other attractions, including the nearby Bang Sai Folk Arts and Craft Center.
Floating Market and Elephant Village at Ayutthaya, Thailand.
The Floating Market and Elephant Village are both located in the same place in Ayutthaya, Thailand. So going to both is easy as going to the your next door neighbour. Lots of food and stuff to buy in the man made floating market. While in the Elephant village, you can find goats, elephants, and tigers. You can feed the elephant and also can take pictures beside the Tiger for a fee.
A cool place to go to with your kids when you visit Bangkok, Thailand.

For much of the world, Thailand is seen as one of the best holiday destinations. You only have to visit places like Koh Samui, Phuket, Chiang Mai or Bangkok to see the waves of foreign tourists that wash up every day. Northern Europeans with their newly-pinked skin, Australians ordering their bottles of beer for breakfast, Chinese following a flag-waving guide in packs towards their hotel.
But what about the Thai people themselves? Have you ever wondered if they go on holidays in their own country or where they would go for a daytrip?
Not too far north of Bangkok, I found an answer to this question. The ancient city of Ayutthaya is a World Heritage Site, listed for the incredible collection of temples that still stand from when this was the largest city in the world. It is popular with foreign tourists who can easily spend a day or two exploring the different sites spread out through the urban area on either side of the river.

AYUTTHAYA ELEPHANT VILLAGE - Feeding the Elephants, Amazing Experience
Have a ride on an elephant. Elephants are Thailand's national symbol and Ayutthaya is home to many elephants that you can ride around the city's sights. Mahouts (elephant keepers) will always be in tow so you won't be expected to direct the animals around yourself. If an elephant ride leaves you wanting more, visit one of the city's elephant camps where you can get up close and personal with these inspiring animals.
It will be impossible for you and your family to walk around Ayutthaya without encountering the country's national animal. Elephants can be found throughout the city decorated with paint and offering rides to children and their families. You will be able to ride an elephant round the beautiful Pha Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya Historical Park (with a trained mahout of course) and see the sights an alternative way. Children will not fail but be impressed by these magnificent animals. If an elephant ride leaves the young ones desperate for more, there are elephant camps which can be visited in the city for a day. Here you will get to see elephants close up as well as baby elephants and injured elephants. Visit elephantstay.com for more details.
If you need to get away from the big city during your visit to Bangkok (as I did after just one day), a quick trip to the Ayothaya Floating Market and Elephant Village is a great option. Ayothaya is located in Ayutthaya — Thailand's capital city until 1767 — about 50 miles from Bangkok. Even though 50 miles may seem like a reasonable distance to travel, Bangkok is plagued by some of the worst traffic I've seen anywhere in the world, and while we managed to make it to the market in about 90 minutes, the drive back took more than twice as long. It rained during much of my visit, which likely had an effect on the tourist presence at the floating market, but all of the shops were still open for business. Luckily, guided tour
Boat rides are available at the market — the driver appears to be adjusting the direction of the boat using forced water.
Even baby goats are available for purchase...
Visitors can feed the goats even if they're not able to take one home.
Massage prices at the market are even more reasonable than those in Bangkok — hour-long massages start at just under $7.
A fish spa is also available (yes, those are my feet above). I've never seen a fish spa before my trip to Thailand — $3 buys you 15 minutes in the tank, in which tiny fish chow down on the dead skin on your feet and legs.
Only one elephant was out and about at the nearby elephant village, likely due to the rain.
Bananas are available for purchase, which the elephant was more than happy to grab out of the basket I'm holding in the photo above.
One of Ayutthaya's historic attractions, Wat Chaiwatthanaram was a Buddhist temple built in 1630. It was destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. water buffalo
As a UNESCO World Heritage City, Ayutthaya is mostly about exploring the ruin sites and temples peppered across the city. How you do it, though, is the question. While you can jump on a tuk-tuk and hit as many sites as you want, there are more interesting and fun ways to do it.
With a history so intertwined with the rivers, touring the city by boat is one of the best ways to experience Ayutthaya of the bygone era. While river cruises are the most luxurious way to go about it, kayaking probably comes closest to how the locals lived several centuries ago. Another popular activity is riding on elephant back in Ayutthaya Historical Park. But if you really want to try something unique, check out a night cycling tour of the ruin sites. Backlit by strategically placed spotlights, these ancient ruins seem to take on a new life of their own.
Another activity that's worth considering if you are thrilled by the thoughts of exploring Ayutthaya's temple ruins on elephant back. Opposite Khum Khun Phaen in the Ayutthaya Historical Park, Ayutthaya Elephant Camp offers elephant rides as well as daily shows and feeding from 9:00 to 17:00. Ayodhaya Elephant Village (next to Ayodhaya Floating Market) has overnight mahout training programmes, in addition to elephant riding trips to nearby temples, for those interested to get real close up and personal with a pachyderm.

An experience of a lifetime visiting the Elephant Stay in Ayutthaya
Officially listed as an endangered species in 1986, Asian Elephant numbers are slowly on the rise, especially here in Thailand, thanks to the tremendously dedicated staff here at the Not for Profitt Elephant Stay & the Royal Elephant Kraal and Village. Established in 1996, the primary objective is to conserve the species and to provide a home for retired, abused ,sick, injured and neglected elephants. The first successful birth was in 2,000 .......there have been many more since!
