Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน) - A Trip to Bangkok's Inspiring Artist's House
More information about visiting Bangkok's Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน):
Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน), also known as Bangkok's Artist's House or Baan Khlong Bang Luang, is a two hundred year old wooden home in the city. It's located across the Chao Phraya river from much of downtown Bangkok, in an area known as Thonburi, right along one of the main canals. Arriving to Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน) is a real throwback in time, it feels like you're far removed from the chaos and clutter of Bangkok and back to how the city was when it first started to be settled and developed. The only reason you know you're still in Bangkok is the obnoxious thundering longtail boats that zoom past every few minutes. The Artist's House is along one of the main tour canals, so it does have a lot of boat traffic - but it's still a great place to visit.
So we arrived to Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน) in the early afternoon and after walking around a few of the shops, we then went straight to Bangkok Artist's House and decided to grab lunch. Khao gaeng, or a variety of Thai curries and prepared dishes was on the menu. I chose a bowl mushroom coconut milk curry, bitter melon stuffed with pork, a fried mackerel fish and omelet served with shrimp paste hot sauce, and a plate of rice topped with a fried egg. Sitting on the side of the house with a view of the canal was a memorable way to enjoy a feast. The food was good and the view was excellent.
At 2 pm each day except Wednesday (and occasional off days when the dancers get hired off site for a private event) there's traditional Thai puppet show. The show is one of the main reasons to visit Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน) in Bangkok. The performance was very well done and the puppets depicted a story from Hanuman. I was impressed and I would highly recommend the show to anyone who visits Bangkok.
After the Thai traditional puppet show, we had a coffee and sat relaxing at Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน) for a few more minutes before heading back to the road and catching a taxi home. Bangkok Artist's House is still an off the beaten track attraction to explore in Bangkok. It's a nicely preserved home and a real fun activity when you visit!
Address: 315 Wat Tong Salangam, Phet Kasem 28, Thanon Phet Kasem, Pa Si Charoen, Bangkok, Thailand 10160
Open Hours: 9 am - 6 pm daily (but no puppet show on Wednesdays, also call ahead to confirm the puppet show)
Phone: 02-868-5279, 089-125-3949 , 081-258-9260
How to get there: If you don't take a longtail boat from the Chao Phraya, the best way to get there is by taking a taxi to Charoen Sanitwong Soi 3. Go all the way to end of the road at the 7-Eleven. Then walk across the footbridge, make a left, and you'll be at Baan Silapin in just a few minutes.
Thai Directions (for Taxi):
จรัญสนิทวงศ์ ซอย.3 เข้าซอยไปสุดซอยจะเจอ 7-11 ลงหน้าเซเว่น เดินเข้าไปในซอยข้างเซเว่น แล้วเดินข้ามสะพานข้ามคลอง แล้วเลี้ยวซ้าย

????????♀️Baan Silapin (Artist's House/Nhà Nghệ Nhân) Bangkok 2018
We spent a good afternoon visit Baan Silapin at Klong Bang Luang neighborhood in the cool Thonburi area of Bangkok with many charming canals. The day we went the puppet show was canceled but we got a good time exploring and enjoying the bucolic and rustic scenary. If you have more time in Bangkok, a visit to Baan Silapin will give a nice break from all the hustle and bustle.

Siam Bangkok - A Guide of What to Do around Lub d Siam Square
For a map and description of everything to do in Siam, Bangkok, and Lub d Siam Square click this link -
Siam, is one of the most famous and busy areas in all of Bangkok. It's the place to go if you're looking shop until you drop and get the latest in anything you need. I've stayed at Lub d Siam Square a number of times, and I'd definitely say that it's one of the best hostels in Bangkok, in an absolute prime location. I made this video for Lub d Siam Square, but all the information in the video and all everything is my own personal opinion. To begin this video I start at Lub d hostel where I exit and then take a walk across the street to MBK. MBK is a massive shopping center where you can find everything from souvenirs to clothes and electronics. The center is extremely famous for the entire floor of cell phones, both new and used. I didn't actually pick up a new cell phone, but if I really did need one, MBK would be a great place to get one. At MBK, in Siam Bangkok, you'll also find a huge food court with over 40 stalls serving mostly Thai food but also Vietnamese and Indian food.
After MBK, I headed over to Siam Square, which is just across the street from MBK, and opposite Siam Paragon shopping center. Siam Square is a trendy little district of Siam where you'll find all sorts of local Bangkok designer clothes and trinkets. Another highlight of coming to Siam Square is the restaurants. Being quite hungry, I headed over to Som Tam Nua, a popular Bangkok restaurant serving Isan northeastern Thai food. The restaurant is nearly always busy and sometimes, especially if you go on a weekend you'll have to wait your turn. Anyway, if you're looking for good Thai food in Siam Square, head to Som Tam Nua. Siam Paragon and Siam Center are both just across the road and they are each mega shopping centers where you'll find lots of high end designer stores and plenty of restaurants. There's also a Bangkok luxury movie theater including a 4D cinema.
Something I really like about Siam Bangkok is that you'll find quiet areas of the city within busy areas. Slotted in between Paragon and Central World is the Wat Pathum Wanaram, a Siam temple. You can go inside, walk around, and take some photos. It's just amazing that you're still in Siam when you're at the temple. About a 10 minute walk from Siam Square is the Erawan Shrine, a lively Hindu dedicated shrine. This shrine with a lot of history is a popular place for both tourists and Thais to come and seek good luck. You'll also be able to see a Thai dance performance at the Erawan Shrine. Central World is just across the street, and just like the other Siam Bangkok shopping malls, you'll find high end shops and restaurants. Outside of Central World is Trimurti Shrine, another popular shrine dedicated to finding love - can you see the roses!?
Moving on to Pratunam, which is about a 15 minute walk from Lub d Siam Square is Platinum fashion mall. This huge structure is clothing market complex indoors. It's huge and confusing, but if you're looking for Bangkok fashion, this is the place for you. Very close you'll also find Pantip Plaza, your one stop mall for all things electronic. Before heading back to Lub d Siam Square, I then stop by the Bangkok Art and Culture Center, which normally offers free exhibits, to see some of the latest art.
If you are looking for a wonderful place to stay in Bangkok that's in a fantastic location, check out Lub d Siam Square. Big thanks to Josh Woodward for contributing the music for this video. Produced by Mark Wiens from Migrationology.com.

???? SHOPPING: BANGKOK'S NEW 24 HOUR SHOPPING MALL - SAMYAN MITRTOWN | Bangkok Thailand
Samyan Mitrtown is Bangkok's newest 24 hour shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand.
It seems like there is a new shopping mall opening up in Bangkok every month and the Samyan Mitrtown is the latest addition to Bangkok's every growing shopping mall.
It's actually quite a standard mall, but it's quite stylish and spacious. I love the tunnel that leads you to the mall from the SAM YAN MRT station and also the 5th floor, where they have a panoramic view of Bangkok city.
This mall is opens 24 hours, 7 days a week, but selected stores are open during those hours.

Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน) - traditional Thai puppet show & dance @ The Artist's House in Bangkok
Located along a canal on the Thonburi side of Bangkok, the Artist's House (Baan Silapin) is a difficult attraction to find and just finding it has a little taste of success. A couple centuries ago, this kind of old Thai wooden house was very typical along the klongs but today these are becoming rare, inexorably replaced by concrete buildings. Not only has this one been beautifully restored, it also has some unusual features that always catch the eyes of tourists passing by on speeding boats: Several human-sized statues painted in white, red or black sitting by the water, endlessly staring at life passing by, like the ghosts of the original occupants who probably used to do the same, when smartphones didn't yet distract us from the real world around us.
If you take a klong tour aboard one of these yellow longtail boats, chances are you passed by the Artist's House, maybe even shot a quick photo wondering what this strange looking place was, hoping you could stop by to explore it further. But boats don't stop and only the brave will find the way to the house through a maze of back lanes.
Owned by Khun Chumpol Akkapantanon, the Artist's House is more than two hundred years old, dating all the way back to when the capital of Thailand was on this side of the river. The house and the neighbourhood was run down when it was bought before being restored to its present glory. Since then, the entire area has become a popular attraction and the boardwalk leading to the house now hosts several shops and tiny restaurants that lead to a temple. It's a great escape from the crazy traffic of Thonburi and yet, it is in the middle of Bangkok.
Not only beautiful in a rustic way, it also has a tall white chedi dating all the way back to the Ayutthaya period standing in the backyard. How many houses have their own 600 year old chedi? The place has a modest coffee shop but the main reason for people to come all this way despite the difficulty is the rare traditional Thai puppet show, performed with delicately crafted puppets that used to be part of the now defunct Joe Louis puppet theatre at the old Suan Luan night bazaar. These puppet shows are now really hard to find.
Baan Silapin (The Artist's House)
Baan Silapin is located along a canal on the Thonburi side of Bangkok. It's a beautiful old house, where you can relax and drink some coffee or tea, look at the canal, and see the artwork. Almost every day at 14:00 there is a wonderful traditional Thai puppet show. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere, a beautiful place to visit.
EXQUISITE Thai Traditional Dance at ICONSIAM in Bangkok, Thailand (Part 3)
Part 3
Thai traditional dance is one of the truly graceful aspects of the country and is quite symbolic of the Thai character itself. To see these beautifully costumed ladies and men patiently miming the ancient stories, which were originally developed and performed as entertainment for the royal court, is a treat that makes even modern audiences feel privileged.
The form is very strict, employing 108 basic movements and keeping the body upright from the neck to the hips, moving up and down using only the knees, and stretching to the rhythm of the music. A great deal of symbolism and importance is displayed in complex and beautifully executed finger and hand movements. Sometimes six-inch, especially designed, finger nails add to the effect and complement the splendor of the spectacularly ornate costumes. All of it combines to produce a hypnotic and memorable experience.

After Or Tor Kor market, Thewet is good market to visit. It’s not too big or overwhelming and a more accurate depiction of what to expect from a traditional style Thai market. There’s also a ton of food around! I’ve prepared a blog on some of the options for you to taste in the area, and my top choice Krua Apsorn restaurant about 10 minutes from Thewet.
Correction: The juice that I had is actually palm sugar juice (น้ำตาลสด) and not sugar cane juice.
