Located in Surry, Virginia, Bacon's Castle is the oldest brick dwelling in the U.S. It was occupied by Nathanial Bacon's supporters in 1676 during a political uprising.
A Day in Surry County: Chippokes Plantation & Bacon's Castle
Surry County, VA is home to Chippokes Plantation State Park and Bacon's Castle, site of Nathaniel Bacon's rebellion in 1676. Chippokes Plantation is a great site for hiking, where the trails take you along a beach. Watch out for the snakes bordering the soybean fields. Yikes!
Bacon's castle was okay. Kinda eerie at times, especially around the slave house. I'm always overwhelmed to see sites inhabited and farmed by slaves. And the cotton fields get me every time. It's an old farm and I'm sure something is still living in the house. I will be back for the ghost tours in October.

Bacon's Castle, VA chatting with the local folks.
My old room mate and I went on a motorcycle trip to anywhere, but ended up in Surry County, Va., home of Bacon's Castle. We met Tommy and his family who have a steady yard sale full of unusual things, and things you won't find anywhere else. We learned that Bacon's Castle, named for Nathaniel Bacon (of Bacon's Rebellion) was reputed to be haunted. Apparently, a slave girl was murdered inside, and her spirit still roams. After doing some web search, we confirmed that the Castle was considered haunted, and supposedly a fireball emanates from the nearby cemetery, and flies down one of the chimneys of Bacon's Castle. We passed this cemetery and even prior to meeting Tommy and his family, and hearing the story of the haunted area, my partner had an unexplained urge to go walk through it. He is normally a deliberate person. I considered this urge to be out of character for him. We walked through the cemetery and saw some grave stones bearing very early dates. We tried not to stir up any restless souls, but I noticed while looking at the old graves that it made me explore the concept of the infinity of time, and how our own purchase of time seems so compressed in relation to the wholeness of time. Go check out Tommy and his things, before the antique hounds discover this place.
The Old Brick Church - Surry County, VA
We went searching the back roads of Virginia for these church ruins our Grandma told us about. We were pleasantly surprised when we found it. It is located across the fields from Bacon's Castle in Surry County, Virginia.

On August 27th, 2017, the Bacon's Castle Church youth visited Chippokes State Park for a day of fun and fellowship. This day could not have happened if it had not been for the many people who helped to make it the success it was.

Bacon's Castle is known to be filled with paranormal activity, such as spectral fireballs, floating heads, disembodied voices, all of which has been seen and heard at the estate. Bacon's castle was built in 1655 by Arthur Allen a British Tobacco Agent who moved to Virginia in the 1640's and has about 360 years of ghosts. There is a history of slave abuse and indian raids. On April 17, 2013 at around 2053 hours I was scanning the skies with a thermo imaging camera I notice a object that appeared to be a boomerang coming from the west to east. I notices the boomerang slit off in 4 circles object and became a tight formation. I grabbed my cell phone and started to record the screen while tracking the objects. I could not see these objects with the naked eye. They were not there. The thermo camera was the only thing picking them up.
