Badeschiff Berlin von oben, 2015
Das auf der Spree schwimmende Badeschiff wurde 2002 im Rahmen eines Wettbewerbs der Stadtkunstprojekte e.V. entworfen. Im Mai 2004 wurde es dann in Alt-Treptow eröffnet. Das Schwimmbecken ist mit Süßwasser gefüllt und bietet einen tollen Ausblick auf die Spree, den Fernsehturm und die Oberbaumbrücke. Seit der Eröffnung ist es eine Attraktion für den Sommer, die viele Bade- und Schaulustige anlockt. Von Mai bis September finden dort Events, Kurse und der normale Badealltag statt.

Das BADESCHIFF der ARENA BERLIN
Ein umgebautes Transportschiff inmitten der Spree, schwimmend am Ufer der ARENA BERLIN befestigt: das BADESCHIFF. Mit einer Länge von 32 M und einer Breite von 9 M wurde 2004 der ehemalige Schubleichter in ein beheiztes Schwimmbad verwandelt. Damit wurde die historische Tradition der Flussschimmbäder fortgeführt und in neuer Form wiederhergestellt unvergesslich für jeden, der einmal auf Augenhöhe der Spree-Wasserkante aus den Fluten aufgetaucht ist.
Im Winter verwandelt sich das BADESCHIFF dann dank vielfach ausgezeichneter futuristischer Dachkonstruktion in eine Sauna- und Wellness-Oase mit Pool und fantastischem Panoramablick. Zusammen mit Strandbar, Yogakursen, Freiluftkino und DJ-Sets entstand so ein echtes Highlight in der Großstadt.

Created from a converted cargo ship, the year-old Badeschiff first opened in the summer of 2004 as a multidisciplinary art project organized by the Stadtkustprojekte (City Art Project Society) of Berlin. The sunken hull of the transformed vessel now offers a pristine 8×32 meter pool. Resting almost level with the Spree’s surface the design gives one the sensation of swimming in the river itself with the city skyline as a dramatic backdrop.
An open-air recreational complex in the warm months, the curving translucent shelter and saunas were added just last December, under the direction of architect Gil Wilk.”

Description: Keeping on with the tradition of public baths on the Spree at the end of the 19th century, the project understands the city in a closer relationship with the river through a floating swimming pool in it. It is a swimming pool inside the river, in the center of the city of Berlin, an old boat as those which can be seen everyday carrying construction materials. An old boat is converted into a swimming pool, with a “beach” made of wood platforms in which people can relax and enjoy. This swimming pool has become a city and touristic icon in Berlin, regardless its small size and low cots execution cost. A second project, by Gil Wilk Architekten and Thomas Freiwald makes possible to turn this swimming pool into a sauna during the cold season.

STORYLINE
Berlin residents sweltered in soaring temperatures on Thursday as a heatwave hit the German capital.
Temperatures in Berlin climbed as high as 32 degrees Celsius, with 37 degrees Celsius in other parts of Germany, reaching the highest temperatures in the year 2009.
Tourists and locals sought to escape the heat by cooling off in a pool in the Badeschiff arena, meaning Bath Ship in German, on the river Spree.
Weather forecasts predicted thunderstorms and lower temperatures for Friday.

Auf der Spree durch Berlin/Boat trip trough Berlin
On a three-hour boat trip on the Berlin river Spree, you can experience the wonders of the ancient and modern Berlin from a different perspective.
Berlin kann man besonders gut auch vom Wasser aus erkunden. Auf einer dreistündigen Dampferfahrt über die Spree erlebt man einige der schönsten Sehenswürdigkeiten des alten und modernen Berlin mal aus einer anderen Perspektive. Ein besonderes Erlebnis selbst für Einheimische. Start ist in der Nähe des Schloss Charlottenburg, dann geht es weiter in Richtung Schloss Bellevue, Kanzleramt, Regierungsviertel, vorbei am Nikolaiviertel. Dann durch die Schleuse am Mühlendamm, vorbei am historischen Hafen und weiter O2 World bis zur Oberbaumbrücke. Nach dieser bekannten Brücke wird etwa beim Badeschiff gewendet und man kann zum Ausgangspunkt zurückfahren.

The first thing you have to remember about Berlin is that it has 2 main city centers in West and East Berlin, primarily the cause of the aftermath of World War 2. I took my family to Berlin - Germany for Christmas to visit its amazing Christmas markets and local events.
Berlin is definitely a gem of city but it has its flaws, it could have been the time of the year, Christmas shopping, new year's stress, we basically had a very bad experience with the local service, primarily at restaurants, they seemed to not give a damn about hospitality. Service was overall very sloppy, unpolite and slow. However we did notice major improvements on the westend of Berlin.
