Places to see in ( Andalusia - Spain ) Baeza Old Town
Baeza formerly also written as Baéza, is an Andalusian town in the province of Jaén in southern Spain. It lies perched on a cliff in the Loma de Úbeda, the range separating the Guadalquivir River to its south from the Guadalimar to its north. It is now principally famed for having some of the best-preserved examples of Italian Renaissance architecture in Spain. Along with Úbeda, it was added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 2003. The former Visigothic bishopric of Baeza remains a Latin Catholic titular see.
The former Baeza Cathedral is built over a former mosque. It was first used in Christian service in the 12th century during Castile's first period of rule. It was then used as a mosque before its reconquest in the 13th century. The most ancient parts are the cubic base of the bell tower and three (presently hidden) Islamic arches. Most of the present Renaissance-influenced Gothic structure—including the nave with two aisles, pilasters, and crossed vaults—dates to around 1529. The tower was redone in 1549 and the Chapel of St Michael was added in 1560. Construction was completed under Andrés de Vandelvira.
Town Hall (Ayuntamiento), a Plateresque building originally built as a combined courthouse and prison, leading to two separate main entrances. Baeza University, established in 1533. Santa Cruz Church, a Romanesque church with a two-aisle nave and semicircular apse. A side wall incorporates a Visigothic arch. St Paul's Church, a Gothic church with a Renaissance portal with a two-aisle nave and Gothic chapels. Includes the tomb of Pablo de Olavide.
Baeza is 327 km (203 mi) south of Madrid by highway. The Linares–Baeza RENFE railway station is 15 km (9 mi) away to the southwest; it lies on the Linares-Almeria line. There are bus connections to Granada, Málaga, and Madrid. Granada (132 km or 82 mi) and Málaga (241 km or 150 mi) are the nearest international airports.

Campaña de promoción turística de las ciudades Úbeda y Baeza (Jaén, Andalucía) con motivo del décimo aniversario de su declaración como Patrimonio Mundial por la UNESCO, por ser la mejor muestra arquitectónica del Renacimiento andaluz.
En Diciembre de 2013 se llevó a cabo una suelta de globos de helio en Madrid, Sevilla, Úbeda y Baeza. Muchos llevaban un bono canjeable por una noche de hotel para dos personas y otros animaban a participar en un sorteo para disfrutar de 27 paquetes turísticos. Tras la suelta de globos varias docenas de turistas tuvieron la oportunidad de viajar a Úbeda y Baeza y disfrutaron de su premio en forma de alojamiento y visitas guiadas gratuitos.
En el vídeo se representa el obsequio que las dos joyas del Renacimiento de Andalucía hacen a los transeúntes de Madrid y Sevilla y animan a disfrutar de ese regalo caído del cielo promoviendo el turismo nacional.
Realizado por Aora Comunicación para la Asociación para el Desarrollo Turístico de Úbeda y Baeza (TUBBA), con la colaboración de la Diputación Provincial de Jaén y la Junta de Andalucía.

Tourism promotion campaign of Úbeda and Baeza cities (Jaén, Andalusia) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its declaration as World Heritage by UNESCO, as the best example of Andalusian Renaissance architecture.
In December 2013 a helium balloon release was held in Madrid, Seville, Úbeda and Baeza. Many of those balloons carried a voucher redeemable for an overnight stay for two people, and others encouraged people to participate in a draw for 27 tour packages. After the balloon release several dozen tourists had the opportunity to travel to Úbeda and Baeza and enjoyed their prize in the form of free accommodation and tours.
The video shows the gift that the two jewels of the Renaissance in Andalusia make to passers in Madrid and Seville and encourage to enjoy that 'godsent' gift promoting domestic tourism.

Úbeda is a town in the province of Jaén in Spain's autonomous community of Andalusia, Both Ubeda and the neighboring city of Baeza benefited from extensive patronage in the early 16th century resulting in the construction of a series of Renaissance style palaces and churches, which have been preserved ever since. In 2003, UNESCO declared the historic cores and monuments of these two towns a World Heritage Site.
Ubeda is near the geographic centre of the province of Jaén, and Ubeda is the administrative seat of the surrounding Loma de Úbeda comarca. Ubeda is one of the region's most important settlements, boasting a regional hospital, university bachelor's degree in education college, distance-learning facilities, local government facilities, social security offices, and courts. According to the Caixa yearbook, Ubeda is the economic hub of a catchment area with a population of 200,000 inhabitants. Twenty-nine percent of employment is in the service sector. Other fractions of the population are employed in tourism, commerce, industry, and local government administration. The agricultural economy mainly works with olive cultivation and cattle ranching. Úbeda has become in one of the biggest olive oil's producers and packers of the Jaén province.
One of the main seasonal attractions of Ubeda is the annual music and dance festival which is held in May and June including opera, jazz, flamenco, chamber music, symphony orchestra and dance. Just south east of Ubeda lies the nature park of Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas.
The most outstanding feature of Ubeda is the monumental Vázquez de Molina Square, surrounded with imposing Renaissance buildings such as the Palacio de las Cadenas (so named for the decorative chains which once hung from the façade). The Chapel of the Savior or Capilla del Salvador was constructed to house the tombs of local nobility. Both the interior and exterior are decorated; for example, interior has an elaborate metawork screen by the ironworker Bartolomé de Jaen. The Hospital de Santiago, designed by Vandelvira in the late 16th century, with its square bell towers and graceful Renaissance courtyard, is now the home of the town's Conference Hall. Ubeda has a Parador hotel, housed in a 16th-century palace which was the residence of a high-ranking churchman of that period.
Ubeda lends its name to a common figure of speech in Spanish, andar por los cerros de Úbeda (literally 'to walk around the hills of Úbeda'), meaning 'to go off at a tangent'. The city possesses 48 monuments, and more of another hundred of buildings of interest, almost all of them of Renaissance style. Though to the romantic travelers of the 18th and 19th centuries it impressed more the Muslim flavor of its streets than this Renaissance brilliance. All this patrimony led Úbeda to being the second city of renowned Spain Historical – artistic Set, in the year 1955. In the year 1975 it received the appointment of the Council of Europe as Exemplary City of the Renaissance. Finally, in 2003 it was named a World Heritage Site, together with Baeza, by UNESCO.

Trujillo is a town in the Caceres province. The town of famous conquistador of Peru, Francisco Pizarro. Trujillo is a municipality located in the province of Cáceres, in the autonomous community of Extremadura, Spain. It had 9086 inhabitants (INE Census, 2013), located in the province of Cáceres, Extremadura. Originally settled on a granite knoll which was readily fortified, the town now extends to the South East of its original site. Trujillo is both a centre for tourism, with over 25 hotels, and a regional market town.
The old town contains many medieval and renaissance buildings. Many of these were built or enriched by the conquistadors born in the city. These include, the conquerors of Peru, Francisco Pizarro and his brothers, Francisco de Orellana and Hernando de Alarcón. Pizarro's equestrian statue stands in the main square, the Plaza Mayor. The most important monuments are the castle, the church of Santa María (thirteenth century), and the church of San Francisco. Not at all dusty and backwards like many would imagine but full of history and monuments it is a place of natural beauty, it will surprise you.

Ubeda is a town in the province of Jaén in Spain's autonomous community of Andalusia, with some 36,025 inhabitants. Both this city and the neighbouring city of Baeza benefited from extensive patronage in the early 16th century resulting in the construction of a series of Renaissance style palaces and churches, which have been preserved ever since. In 2003, UNESCO declared the historic cores and monuments of these two towns a World Heritage Site.
Recent archaeological findings indicate a pre-Roman settlement at Úbeda, such as argaric and iberic remains. The capital of the iberic state was called Iltiraka and was located over the Guadalquivir river, 10 km south of the actual site of the town. Romans and later Visigoths occupied the site as a settlement. This area became an important city in the Muslim conquest of the Iberia. It was refounded by Abd ar-Rahman II (822–852), who called it Arab's Ubbada.

Almagro is a town and municipality situated in Ciudad Real province, in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha, Spain. A tourist destination, Almagro is designated a Conjunto histórico, a type of conservation area.
Almagro lies within small Paleozoic mountain ranges, with some reserves of shallow creeks, including the Pellejero and de Cuetos. It also lies within a volcanic zone (Cerrro de la Yezosa), which lies upon a quartzite massif. It makes the zone particularly unique, together with that of the zones of Olot and Cabo de Gata, in the sense that it is one of the few important zones of volcanic origin in the Iberian Peninsula. An International Festival of Classical Theater has also been celebrated here annually since 1978.
It is uncertain when humans first settled in the area of Almagro. There may have been a Bronze Age settlement; a theory supported by archaeological findings in the Casas Maestrales (complex of houses associated with the Order of Calatrava) and in spots outside of the town center. During the Roman era, it seems to have been inhabited, according to the scholar Galiano y Ortega, who argued that he saw the remains of an aqueduct, which were discovered during the construction of the present-day Paseo de la Estación. Roman coins have been found, as well as a headstone from this era, which can now be seen in the Town Hall; the headstone was discovered near the Roman bridge at Zuqueca, in Granátula.
Cereal, vines, olives, and cotton are grown and cultivated here; there are also livestock and herding. There are also quarries of basalt and mines of manganese and plaster. A traditional industry is the fashioning of appliqué lace and pillow lace (encaje de bolillos). Other industries include woodworking and construction.
Almagro is also famous for a variety of small aubergines, berenjenas de Almagro, seasoned and pickled according to a traditional recipe. These are usually eaten as a snack, along with other tapas, such as banderillas.
