A Walk Up To The Baldwin Hills Scenic Outlook, Culver City, L.A
The Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook California State Park is located just southwest of downtown Culver City. To some Los Angeles area residents, the site is more commonly known as the Culver City Stairs. This outdoor staircase is designed into the trails leading up to a view of the greater Los Angeles area. The street address for the park is 6300 Hetzler Road, Culver City, California 90232.
The state of California purchased the property in 2000, then closed it to the public in the middle of 2006 to construct the trails (which include the staircase) and visitor center. The visitor center was created by the San Diego-based couple Ricardo Rabines and Taal Safdie, whose goal in designing the overlook was to “encompass non-traditional park demographics and environments.” The duo’s work has graced Southern California educational and civic projects like UC San Diego’s Eleanor Roosevelt College, the student center at UCLA, and the Otay Mesa Library. The park reopened in April 2009 with the 282 unique, irregular steps made from recycled concrete found on the park.

In this video we hike the stairs at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, a fun little 58-acre park along Jefferson Blvd just southeast of Downtown Culver City.
The trail is located just south of Ballona Creek along Jefferson Blvd, and just west of La Cienega Blvd.
The major feature of the trail is a steep stairwell that shoots straight to the top of the hill. There are 282 steps to the top (so we're told) and the whole ascent is only about .15 miles. Combined with the surrounding switchback trail, it's about 1.25 miles total, which means some people like to do it more than once if they're looking for a morning workout burn.
One thing that disappointed us a bit was the limited hours of the Nature Center. We visited on a Wednesday and it said it was closed. According to the official park website (3/24/2017) the hours are:
Monday: 2pm-6pm
Tuesday: CLOSED
Wednesday: CLOSED
Thursday: CLOSED
Friday: 3pm-6pm
Saturday: 9:30am-6pm
Sunday: 9:30am-6pm
The park itself is open from 8 a.m. to sunset, but we found people already using the trail pre-8.a.m just because the sun had already come up that day.
In the summer time it'll look significantly less green than in the footage above, and the trail will be significantly more dusty, so that's something to bear in mind. The upside is that the views (on a clear day) will always be pretty stellar.

Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook - Culver City, CA
The main hiking trail is steep and winds up one mile from the park entrance at Jefferson Blvd. and down from the Scenic Overlook. The trail zig zags around a very steep and straight staircase visitors can also access. An easy loop trail crowns the 58 acre park. Seasonal displays of native wildflowers, bird and wildlife viewing, picnicking and opportunities for kids and families to connect with the park's natural and cultural heritage are here for visitors to experience. People can enjoy the scents of nature, recreate, learn about the natural and cultural heritage of Los Angeles and be inspired by the view.
