Baby Turtle Release on Kuta Beach Bali - Indonesia
BABY TURTLE RELEASE
Bali Sea Turtle Society (BSTS) is an organisation, run by local Indonesians for the conservation of endangered sea turtles. We work across the entire island of Bali with locals in different regions to protect sea turtles.
At the Kuta Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Centre (Map: ) our mission is to protect nesting sea turtles and their eggs to increase hatching and release rates. We also aim to educate people about sea turtle protection, including the protection of natural habitats.
The endangered species of sea turtles nesting on Kuta Beach are Olive Ridley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea). We relocate sea turtle eggs laid on Kuta and the surrounding beaches to a central hatchery. The eggs take 45-60 days to develop and hatch naturally.
Sea turtle nesting season is from approximately March to September each year. Sea turtle hatching season is from approximately April to October each year.
We can not predict the hatching dates for a nest and therefore can not predict baby sea turtle release dates in advance. The baby turtle release events do not happen every day.
Now we are on the out of the turtle season. Keep checking the update on our Facebook Page @baliseaturtlesociety
We thank you for your interest in sea turtle conservation.

Sea Turtle Project
Kuta beach is one of a small number of locations that adult sea turtles to lay their eggs. The baby sea turtles face many threats to their survival before they hatch and during their final treacherous run to the sea. However, Kuta Beach Security (Satgas Kuta) and Bali Sea Turtle Society (BSTS) have been cooperating to save turtle eggs that are laid on Kuta beach. This program contradicts public opinion that many Balinese people are only fond of consuming turtle eggs and meat. Many who care about turtle protection, now include the local Balinese Kuta community.

Sea turtle lay eggs between March and September each year and they will hatch between May and October. So far, only the Olive Ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea) species of turtle, have been found to lay their eggs at Kuta beach.
Between 2002 and 2010 there were more than 15,000 eggs safely relocated to the Hatchery, and 80% of these were successfully hatched and released to the ocean.
THE BABY TURTLE RACE
Releasing turtle hatchlings is interesting and educational for tourists and locals alike. Many tourists, especially foreign tourists, are encouraged to get involved in the releasing activity. ProFauna calls this activity: The Baby Turtle Race. It has become a special event for tourists at Kuta , increased tourists interests and also serves as a promotional activity to save the sea turtles.
It is most important that we seek continued support through your donations. The money is used to maintain the facilities and equipment so as to further protect and increase the laying of turtle eggs at Kuta Beach.
The sea turtle conservation program in Indonesia will be only be successful if it gains support from the community and the current law enforcement legislation is upheld by the government against illegal turtle trading. Issuing substantial prison sentences to illegal turtle traders and supporting and educating the local community in turtle conservation, will help all 6 species of sea turtles found in Indonesian waters.

Sea Turtle Hatchlings Released on Kuta Beach, Bali, Indonesia
This 3 minute video will restore your faith in humanity ????
I was lucky enough to stumble on this sea turtle release program in Kuta. The turtles we released were mostly Olive Ridley Sea Turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea). It is organized by the Bali Sea Turtle Society (BSTS).
The Sea Turtle Project
The Kuta Beach Sea Turtle Center program aims to protect sea turtle eggs and increase hatching rates. Rangers patrol the beach all night to protect female sea turtles that come to the beach to lay their eggs and ensure their safety when returning to the ocean. The eggs are collected and relocated to the hatchery in Kuta. Between 2012 and 2013 over 50.000 eggs were safely relocated to the hatchery. Hatch rate: 80%.
This program is open for local and international visitors for free.
Donations are welcome.
