About Ballenberg:
It’s an open-air museum with a collection of over 100 rural houses and farms. What they do very good (as I mentioned in the video as well) is keeping history alive. Fires are burning, sausages are being made, pies are cooked. You can also see several handcrafts, like silk weaving. You’ll get a schedule when you arrive, to see what is to be seen where, on which day. No worries! Every day has their own activities.

Houses that are old enough and can’t remain on the place where they were build originally, are brought to Ballenberg.
The area is pretty large. There are forests and little paths between the several groups of houses. You can easily spend a day here, and still haven’t seen everything. Take your time here!

Go to brienz is unplanned destination that make us be surprised because of the beauty of Brienz's nature .
love this town so much which the lake was steal our heart.
It's so wonderful lake that I ever seen in my life.
On this video , we wanna go to Rothorn but it couldn't happen because of rainy .
So, we decided to go to Ballenberg museum which is a beautiful place that should visit in Brienz.

Since 1978 old farmhouses, stables, bakehouses or chalets are no longer demolished when modern buildings are built in the city but instead they are brought into this open air museum so people of all ages can come and admire them.
Nowadays, there are over 100 historic buildings in this museum which together with the indigenous plants and crops that are cultivated here and over 250 native livestock species, perfectly paint the picture of how rural life in Switzerland looks like.

A stroll through the past. More than one hundred century-old buildings from all over Switzerland, 250 farmyard animals, traditional, old-time gardens and fields, demonstrations of local crafts and many special events create a vivid impression of rural life in days gone by. Ballenberg is indeed unique.
They demonstrate at least nine different crafts live every day: baking, basket weaving, bobbin-lace making, chip-box making, chocolate production, cooking, filet crocheting, forging, grinding wheat, hat making, knitting, making cheese, oil production, pottery, saddlery, sawing, shingle making, spinning, tatting, weaving and wood carving.
This video shows a woman while weaving. I asked her how much time she needed to set-up the machine. It turned out that it took her three days to set it up!

Neste dia pegamos um trem em Interlaken e fomos até Hofstetten bei Brienz, cidade onde está localizado o Museu à céu aberto Ballenberg.
Este museu funciona da seguinte maneira: Quando o proprietário de alguma casa com valor histórico na Suíça resolve demolir a casa, o governo vai até lá, desmonta a casa e em seguida remonta ela neste enorme terreno, preservando as características originais dela.
Em uma área de 66 hectares, o visitante encontra residências, estábulos, padaria, defumador de salames e muito mais.
Em algumas construções é possível acompanhar algumas atividades, como por exemplo, podemos ver a preparação de pães, fabricação de chapéus, etc.
Tudo o que é fabricado em Ballenberg pode ser adquirido pelos visitantes na loja localizada dentro do museu.
Ballenberg é um belo lugar para passar o dia e aprender sobre a rotina da vida rural da Suíça.

This video shows that they also produce cheese according to traditional recipes. Anyone who has ever tasted their home-made Mutschli cheese will know: there is nothing better than a good alpine cheese! Mutschli is made here daily out of fresh cow's milk and is ready for sale after about 3 weeks of careful attention. That is much less than in the case of mountain cheese, which is kept for one or even two years in storage, turned x-times and washed with brine before it is sold.

This video shows a house originally located in Erstfeld, Central Switzerland.
With the house from Erstfeld, the Museum has succeeded in preserving an outstanding example of 18th century construction and making it accessible to the public. This buil-ding provides visitors with an almost ideal example of the architectural entity somewhat vaguely known as the Gotthard house.
This is a typical house from the Reuss Valley. Its ground floor and the fire wall at the rear are built of stone, while the living quarters proper are of wood and in block construction. The two parts are joined by timber-framed walls. Stylistically, this house belongs to the transition between late Renaissance and early Baroque. However, Gothic forms of ornament can still be seen in the interior.
The block construction is of sophisticated design. When dismantling the building, we were struck by the ability of the unknown carpenters to think in three-dimensional terms. Complex details like the parlour ceiling made from beams and slotted-in planks were made with the simplest technical means.
The ground floor of the house probably contained a stable for horses or mules. An old bridle path led past the former site of the building, which suggests a connection with traffic over the pass. There is a fruit and vegetable cellar in the rear part of the house. This is carefully isolated from a walled shaft that used to hold liquid manure.
We are certain that the builder and first owner of the house, probably a member of the Epp family of councilmen, was not a poor man. There is much to indicate that the interior was richly furnished. The living quarters are spacious and, for the period, luxuriously appointed.
The original beamed ceiling is a feature of the main parlour. A large part of the panelling destroyed by a stove fire around 1900 has been replaced. The real showpiece of this interior is the tile stove from another Uri house, which dates from 1725. Only traces of the original buffet were left. The present one is a copy of an example from a neighbouring house.
The kitchen, larder and privy are located in the rear part of the main storey. The hearth enables cheese to be made during the winter when the cattle are in the valley. The sanitation system is modern for a house almost three hundred years old, and reflects the high living standard of the original inhabitants. The upper storey contains two bedrooms of equal size, with a trapdoor allowing them to be heated from the parlour stove. The large room at the rear of the house was probably used to store household goods. The attic contains a small loft which served for storage purposes.
In the room next to the parlour is a funereal scene. A lifeless child lies on the bed and the entire room is decorated in white, the colour of death for children. It creates a depressing and moving scene in light of the high mortality rate of children, which was part of everyday life until well into the 19th century.
