Latvia Riga tourism city tour travel guide
From Riga to Vilnius by Bus - Latvia / Lithuania 4K Travel Channel
The journey to Lithuania, our third Baltic country, lies ahead of us. For this trip, we bought a ticket for the long-distance bus.
It is very convenient for us. In the morning we only have to walk through the railway underpass in front of our hotel and are already at the bus station.
The bus leaves directly to the south along the Daugava. Then it crosses the river via the southern bridge, the Dienvidu Tilts. It seems that this area is mainly settled by industrial companies.
We quickly reach the flat land that is used for agriculture. The border between Latvia and Lithuania lies between the cities Bauska and Pasvalys. The Latvian-Lithuanian border can only be recognized by the trucks parking spaces to the right and left of the road. A well-developed motorway leads from Panevezys directly to Vilnius. Within the EU, the Baltic countries are also part of the Schengen area.
When driving through the vast meadows and forests, many descriptions of women and children, who had to flee from the eastern regions after World War II, come to our mind. Many have been lost and some children had to eke out a living with work on the farms for years. Some farmers would have liked forever to care for the children, but most of them wanted to go back to their relatives.
Upon driving into the city of Vilnius, we see modern office buildings and many car dealers along the street. The city provides a modern impression. Later we will also get to know the medieval core of the city.

Review: LUX Express Bus Journey (Lounge Class) from Vilnius, Lithuania to Riga, Latvia: 22 May, 2019
Review: LUX Express Coach Journey from Vilnius, Lithuania to Riga, Latvia - 22 May, 2019
I took the bus from Vilnius in Lithuania to Riga in Latvia in May 2019. The bus arrived at Vilnius Bus Station at 11:50 for a 12:00 departure. Upon arrival, bags needs to be checked into the bus' luggage storage area, for which a receipt is issued. There was a queue to board the bus as tickets were checked, along with identity documents, which need to be carried.
I booked a Lounge Class ticket, which cost €28 booked online in advance at . Lounge Class is less crowded than Standard Class, and is at the back of the bus divided by a red curtain. When booking in Lounge Class you can select an individual seat, you also get a small table, bottle of water, snack bar and entertainment console.
Departure was on time, it takes a while to leave Vilnius, and there is one more pick-up in the city, after this there are no more pick-ups or drop-offs until Riga. The journey was mostly pleasant on a Summer day, although the roads in Lithuania are pretty bumpy in places.
The entertainment console came with headphones provided and a USB port, which was powerful enough to charge my iPhone but not my iPad. The internet services were patchy and didn't really load with any success, but the film selection was extensive, and I watched Alien Covenant for the last two hours of the journey. The crossing between Lithuania and Latvia is barely noticeable on the E67 road. Arrival at Riga Bus Station was at 15:50 (10 minutes early).
Overall this was a long but positive experience, and I would certainly use Lux Express again in future based upon this journey.
This film features all aspects discussed above, along with views of the journey, and identification of some sites along the way.

Riga is the capital of Latvia and is home to 632,614 inhabitants (2019), which is a third of Latvia's population. Being significantly larger than other cities of Latvia, Riga is the country's primate city. It is also the largest city in the three Baltic states and is home to one tenth of the three Baltic states' combined population. The city lies on the Gulf of Riga at the mouth of the Daugava river where it meets the Baltic Sea. Riga's territory covers 307.17 km2 (118.60 sq mi) and lies 1–10 m (3 ft 3 in–32 ft 10 in) above sea level, on a flat and sandy plain.
Riga was founded in 1201 and is a former Hanseatic League member. Riga's historical centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, noted for its Art Nouveau/Jugendstil architecture and 19th century wooden architecture. Riga was the European Capital of Culture during 2014, along with Umeå in Sweden. Riga hosted the 2006 NATO Summit, the Eurovision Song Contest 2003, the 2006 IIHF Men's World Ice Hockey Championships and the 2013 World Women's Curling Championship. It is home to the European Union's office of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC).
In 2016, Riga received over 1.4 million visitors. The city is served by Riga International Airport, the largest and busiest airport in the Baltic states. Riga is a member of Eurocities, the Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC) and Union of Capitals of the European Union (UCEU).

TRAVEL VIDEO | In the Baltic State of Riga, Latvia
The Gothic spires that dominate Rīga's cityscape might suggest austerity, but it is the flamboyant art nouveau that forms the flesh and the spirit of this vibrant cosmopolitan city, the largest of all three Baltic capitals. Like all northerners, it is quiet and reserved on the outside, but there is some powerful chemistry going on inside its cobbled streets, medieval vibe, modern art centres, and in the kitchens of its cool pubs and restaurants! Welcome to Riga! Hope you will consider Riga, Latvia as part of your bucket list once you watch this travel video!

Public Transportation in Riga, Latvia
A look at the trams, buses, and trolley-buses in Riga, Latvia.
Tallinn to Riga by Car (Road Trip)
In Estonia, it is easy to travel from Tallinn to Riga (Latvia) by car or bus. We went on a road trip by car for this video, we have also tried the same by the LUX Express bus, which takes 4 hours 25 minutes Tallinn - Riga and cost about 21 Eur per person. It is very comfortable to go in these two ways, even in snowy winter.
This Summer, we began the drive from Tallinn to destination Opera Spa Hotel Riga, total time taken is 4 hours. Riga was founded in 1201 and is a former Hanseatic League member. Riga's historical centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, noted for its Art Nouveau/Jugendstil architecture and 19th century wooden architecture. In this video, it is mainly the sights: Riga Old Town, Rockabilly House Riga, St. Gertrude Old Church, a Lutheran church in Riga which is a parish church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia. It has a long association with Riga's German ethnic community, and the congregation worship in the German language. Also the St. Peter's Church, St. James's Cathedral, or the Cathedral Basilica of St. James, (Latvian: Svētā Jēkaba katedrāle, German: Jakobskirche) is the Roman Catholic cathedral of Riga in Latvia and a UNESCO world heritage site.
In vicinity, we also walked a lot, in the parks and the city, to the Riga Central Market, passed by the city canals.
5:53 The Nativity of Christ Cathedral, Riga, Latvia was built to a design by Nikolai Chagin and Robert Pflug in a Neo-Byzantine style between 1876 and 1883, with decorations made by the firm of August Volz, during the period when the country was part of the Russian Empire. This is beautiful and worth checking out if you are in Riga.
