Floating Market Bang Phli Thai Food, Massage & More
We took our very first trip to the floating market at Bang Phli, surprisingly given that it’s only a 15 minute drive from our house. It’s about 30km’S from the centre Bangkok and only 20Km’s from Suvarnabhumi airport.
The market is a fantastic way to spend a few hours browsing, shopping and eating. We also indulged in a Traditional Thai massage while we were there.
Rain that morning kept us from going early enough to experience everything that the market had to offer and so we will plan to make many more trips to what has quickly become one of our favourite places to go.
We hope that you enjoyed watching this video.

This video features the Bang Phli Yai 100 Year Old Floating Market located behind Bang Phli Big C Supermarket in Samut Prakan, Thailand. We took a walk through the local floating market and the sights and smells were amazing! My hope is that you get a feeling of what it is like to be in a real Thai market away of the tourist locations in Thailand and Bangkok. While almost no one speaks English they are mostly happy to help you try new food dishes and desserts. Enjoy this look into a typical Sunday afternoon living a Thai lifestyle
Kanom Jeen Nam Dai Pla (ขนมจีนน้ำไตปลา) – feuriges, südthailändisches Fish-Curry mit Reisnudeln. 30 THB (0,89 EUR)
Kanom Jeen Nam Ya Gati (ขนมจีนน้ำยากะทิ) – Curry auf Kokosnuss-Basis ebenfalls mit Reisnudeln und Gemüse nach Wahl. 30 THB (0,89 EUR)
Dazu frisch frittierte Chicken- und Fishballspieße:
Gai Tod (ไก่ทอด) / Luk Chin Tod (ลูกชิ้นทอด). 50 THB (1,49 EUR)
Zum Trinken Pandan Saft und Thai Eiskaffee:
Nam Bai Dei (น้ำใบเตย ) / Oliang (โอเลี้ยง). Je 20 THB (0,60 EUR)
Leckere Thai Deserts:
Kanom Krok (น้ขนมครก) – traditionelle Kokosnuss-Reismehl Pfannkuchen. 30 THB (0,89 EUR)
Ice Cream Lod (ไอติมหลอด) – traditionelles Thai Eis mit verschiedenen Geschmäckern, z.B. Cola, Green Soda, Strawberry. 5 THB (0,15 EUR)
Mayom Chueam (มะยมเชื่อม) – gekochte Stachelbeeren. 20 THB (0,60 EUR)
Im Anschluss an den Wassermarkt haben wir den wunderschönen Wat Bang Phli Yai Nai (วัดบางพลีใหญ่ใน) direkt nebenan besucht.
Floating Market Bangkok - Bang Nam Pheung (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง)
Visit for more travel and food!
There are many floating markets scattered throughout Bangkok. Though markets where vendors sold things directly from their boats in the canals was once a daily life activity, nowadays floating markets in Bangkok are mostly used as a way to escape the annoyance of city life and spend a day relaxing.
One of the coolest markets these days is Talad Bang Nam Pheung (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง), a floating market that sets up on the weekends just south of Bangkok in an area called Phra Pradaeng.
Bang Nam Pheung is a wonderful place to spend the day browsing, shopping and of course, eating as much Thai food as possible.
In the course of the video I'll take you on a little tour of the market to give you an idea of what to expect when you go.
I stopped to enjoy a delicious bowl of Thai noodles filled with ivy gourd leaves and also samples a dish of rice topped with smoked oven roasted pork. They food was served from a floating boat, but it was more of a permanent setting - but that was alright!
Gac fruit is very popular at the market and a trip to Bang Nam Pheung floating market (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง) wouldn't be complete without purchasing a bottle to sample. Big bottles cost 35 THB while small bottles run 20 THB. I thought it was extremely delicious, a refreshing taste of sweet tomato and papaya.
To get to the floating market you can either take a taxi directly there, or you can go the more adventurous route.
Here are further directions - it's easiest to come this route via Bangkok's Sukhumvit road.
Take a taxi to Wat Bang Na Nawk (วัดบางนานอก) which is a temple which is located on the river.
Take the the ferry boat across the river - it only goes one place and the cost is just 4 THB.
Get on the back of a motorbike taxi and they will take you straight to the doorstep of the floating market. There will be many others taking motorbikes to the market as well, so there's no getting lost. Cost is 10 THB per person.
Opening Hours: Saturday and Sunday from 8 am - 2 pm, I showed up at about 11 am.
Time: The market is quite large so plan for about 2 - 4 hours of leisure browsing including lunch.

Thailand's Best FLOATING MARKET with Mark Wiens!
Have you ever heard of a floating market before? If not, you're in for a real treat (literally, wait until you see how much we ate)!
In Thailand, some markets are floating -- meaning they function entirely on narrow canals with small boats moving up and down . You pay a small price to hire a boat driver for an hour (or longer), and then choose which delicious meals to eat from dozens of vendors (on boats) with elderly women cooking up something unique. It's all cheap and delicious and this is debatably the best experience you can have in Thailand.
This morning, my buddy Mark Wiens from Migrationology and I headed 2 hours outside of Bangkok to a floating market called Damnoen Saduak, where he introduced me to some of Thailand's best dishes. We had a blast shooting this video and I hope you enjoy what we have to share!
Also -- If you don't already know, Mark makes some of the best food travel videos out there, so check out his page below for more deliciousness.

Tour of Fairtex Bang Phli
Well here is a tour of Fairtex Bang Phli (Bangplee). I was training there with the rest of Team USA for about 2 weeks for the 2009 IFMA World Muaythai Championships. The camp is top notch when it comes to one on one training, the trainers are all experienced fighters, very knowledgable and very friendly as well. I had a blast while at Fairtex and would definately go back.

HOW TO GET THERE:
I advise that you take the BTS train to Bang Wa station, which is the end of the line. Then, a metered taxi can take you there for less than a hundred Baht.
BANGKOK'S KHLONG LAT MAYOM FLOATING MARKET AND RIVER TOUR
We had such a great time at the Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market! The food, smells, and colors are incredible. Best of all it was off the beaten path. We were the only foreigners there! We went on an incredible boat tour while we were there, got to explore and orchid farm, and even a couple of temples!

Bang Phil Ancient Market. Very bustling during the weekends. Lots of varieties of Thai food/dessert and all sorts of local goods the thai street food is there as well. Antique wooden flooring walkway through the market place. Each weekend, there is a local school performance for fund raising. Come with an empty stomach and leave with a full tummy and a happy smile.
At the 150-year-old Bang Phli Market in Samut Prakan ( 29 km from Bangkok ), there are no boats selling goods but a wooden walkway is laid along both sides of the Samrong Canal where shop houses are located. The market is open on Saturday and Sunday from early morning to noon. Browse around looking for good buys, particularly souvenirs. Catch a glimpse of the traditional Thai way of life along the picturesque riverbanks, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Great for a weekend walking and shopping. It is quite a challenge to find a parking spot nearby. But you can park at parked our car at Big C Bangplee
We walked across the klong (channel) the old market (Bang Phil Floating Market) There are many small riverside restaurants and small shops at Bang Phil Market.
Lots of Thai food and nice suburban vibe. Much less crowded than Amphawa, too -at least for now, while it is still less popular.
