Banyan Tree Bangkok : Few cities in the world fire the imagination with exotic images like Bangkok. Ornate palaces that host royal processions, Buddhist temples that witness monks chanting ancient sutras, serpentine canals that lead to a maze of water markets, bazaars that never sleep - all have long proved a powerful magnet for travelers. In this sprawling metropolis, Banyan Tree Bangkok stands out as a much-needed 'sanctuary for the senses' and a rejuvenating spa retreat. Voted in the Gold List as one of 'The World's Best Places to Stay' by Conde Nast Traveler (US) in 2005, Banyan Tree Bangkok is proud to embrace you with the legendary hospitality Thailand is famous for. Just sit back and observe the world from a distance 61 floors up in the sky.
Bangkok is the capital, largest urban area and primary city of Thailand. Known in Thai as Krung Thep Mahanakhon (Thai: กรุงเทพมหานคร, pronounced [krūŋtʰêːp máhǎːnákʰɔːn] ( listen)), or กรุงเทพฯ Krung Thep ( (listen) (help·info)) for short, it was a small trading post at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River during the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It came to the forefront of Siam when it was given the status as the capital city in 1768 after the burning of Ayutthaya. However, the current Rattanakosin Kingdom did not begin until 1782 when the capital was moved across the river by Rama I after the death of King Taksin. The Rattanakosin capital is now more formally called Phra Nakhon (Thai: พระนคร), pertaining to the ancient boundaries in the metropolis' core and the name Bangkok now incorporates the urban build-up since the 18th century which has its own public administration and governor.
Since its inception as the capital of Siam, it was at the center of European Colonial plans, but due to its strategic location in Indochina, it acted as a buffer-zone and brokered power between the European forces. Through this, it gained notoriety in the world as an independent, dynamic, and influential city. And in the span of over two hundred years, Bangkok has grown to become the political, social and economic center of Thailand, Indochina and Southeast Asia.
As a direct result of the 1980s and 1990s Asian investment boom, numerous multinational corporations base their regional headquarters in Bangkok and the city has become a regional force in finance and business. Its increasing influence on global politics, culture, fashion, and entertainment underlines its status as a global city. In 2009, it was the second most expensive city in South-East Asia behind Singapore.[1]
The city's wealth of cultural landmarks and attractions in addition to its notorious entertainment venues has made it synonymous with exoticism. Its historic wealth coincides with its rapid modernization, reflected in the cityscape and the urban society. The Grand Palace, Vimanmek Palace Complex, its thousands of temples, and the city's notorious red light districts combine draw in 11 million people international visitors each year, trailing just Paris and London.[2]
Bangkok has a population of approximately 6,355,144 residents while the greater Bangkok area has a population of 11,971,000 (January 2008) [3]. The capital is part of the heavily urbanized triangle of central and eastern Thailand which stretches from Nakhon Ratchasima along Bangkok to the heavily Industrialized Eastern Seaboard. Bangkok borders six other provinces: Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon and Nakhon Pathom, and all five provinces are joined in the conurbation of the Bangkok Metropolitan Area. It is served by two international airports, Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Don Muang, four rapid transit lines operated by the BTS, MRT, and the SRT, with plans to add eight more by 2020.
The city has been coined the City of Angels, Venice of the East, and Detroit of the East.

Would you believe that this oasis is located in the middle of Bangkok?
Koh Kret is an amazing island located in the Chao Phraya River and completely remote from the hectic city life of Bangkok.

Biking on Koh Kret Island, an Island in Bangkok

Whats up guys, as stated, we are at Koh Kret a small island located just a little ways off the outskirts of Bangkok known for its chill vibes, their handmade clay pottery, and their amazing bike routes which I spent a whole day putting together in a music montage but lets knock out the logistics part of this vlog first so you can also come here and experience it for yourself.
Now there are actually several ways you can get here but you’ll first need to head to a ferry point to take you into koh kret. We took the ferry across the river from a a temple facing the island called Wat Sanam Nuea.
I am sure I totally butchered the pronunciation but you should be able to google map it based on the spelling below and get lost after missing a turn that eventually had us detouring 3 kms before we could finally U turn. No intersections, it’s a Bangkok thing you’ll understand when you get here.
If you’re new to Bangkok however, I recommend you take a cab and I can’t see the fare costing more than 10 dollars.
As for the ferry, it was only 10 Baht each way, and once you’re on the Island I highly recommend you rent a bicycle to get around. This will cost you 50 baht which is about a $1.50 and you’ll need check in your passport but I was able to just check in my Thai Driver’s License.
So now that the logistics are out of the way, I present to you Koh Kret
So for some reason we initially couldn’t find any OTOP stores and only ran into this cool looking local candy shop where we bought an ice cream bar and this other pottery store with a NO OTOP sign on the door. We suspect that many stores weren’t open because we came on a weekday.
We eventually we hit a dead end and on the way back some lady told us the direction we were going was wrong and routed us away from the main road to her daughter’s store which was an OTOP store. Felt a bit deceived but she led us to an OTOP store that we would never have found so I guess it worked out.
So guy this concludes our Koh Kret vlog. As you saw, it isn’t a tropical island paradise and technically its located in Nontaburi which is on the outskirts of Bangkok. However, when I went there, I only ran into about 3-4 other tourists so I highly recommend Koh Kret to anyone who wants insight into the real authentic local life here without having to travel too far away from Bangkok.
Thank you so much for checking out the vlog and a big thank you to all the new subscribers! I really want to bring you guys more informative, interesting, and entertaining content so please feel free to comment below any suggestions about what you might want to see in our future vlogs.

Eyesup in Koh Kret - A Day on Bangkok's River Island
Blogger Cynthia Luo takes a day trip to Koh Kret, Bangkok's River Island (เกาะเกร็ด). Located only a couple of hours from the city centre in Nonthaburi, it's the perfect getaway from the city.
Rent a bike for the day, eat delicious food by the Chao Phraya River and explore the market. This was a snapshot of my trip.

Thai Fruit Charoenchai Farm Tour Chanthaburi Part 1
Ta and I travel 250km’s South East of Bangkok to visit Charoenchai Farm in the Province of Chanthaburi, here we are going to learn about some of Thailand’s most famous fruit. Including Mangosteen, Cocoa, Rambutan and our favourite, Turian / Durian. The tour of the farm takes about 1 hour, with frequent stops to savour fruit straight from the tree.
To be honest, it could have taken only 40 minutes, but our tour guide certainly loved to talk. 55
The highlight of the day was when the farms owner stopped us just before we left and told us he wanted us to see how the Turian was harvested. We were really lucky, as this was a very rare treat and so very cool to see.
The tour is included in the cost of the 400 baht Fruit Buffet. A video of the buffet will be available soon.
We hope that you enjoyed watching this video.
Please put any questions that you might have in the comments section below. I will do my best to answer as quickly and as accurately as possible.

How to use the CHAO PHRAYA EXPRESS BOAT in Bangkok ( Co van Kessel Guide )
How to use the CHAO PHRAYA EXPRESS BOAT in Bangkok ( Co van Kessel Guide )
For more information: covankessel.com
In this video we explain you how to use the Chao Phraya Express Boat. This is a really convenient transport to use in Bangkok to beat the traffic and it’s also a lot of fun. Use the river in Bangkok instead of the busy streets and beat the traffic.
There are 5 different colored boats you can take, but to not confuse you, we only recommend 2 of them. The orange boat and the blue boat.
We use the example to use the Orange Flag Boat from N13 to N3 Si Phraya to get to our office at Co van Kessel
This video is part of a web series about Bangkok and in this series we show you how to get around in Bangkok, Thailand.
*
Looking for an authentic and unique adventure? Co van Kessel bike tours and boat tours provides a refreshing alternative to the tired tourist experience. We do not battle the crowds at clichéd destinations promoted in guide books, but turn your attention to quaint local communities and charming excursions into the fascinating lifestyle and culture of real Thai people. Every day is different and every tour is a surprise as we focus not on destinations, but lose ourselves in the enchantment of the journey itself.
Co van Kessel, an innovative and adventurous Dutchman, pioneered bicycle tours in Bangkok more than 30 years ago. As a longtime resident and self-professed lover of Bangkok, he understood very well the picture of accelerated urban development (gridlocked traffic, concrete towers, and choking pollution) that has plagued the recent image of the city. He also had a hunch that this was not what Bangkok or Thailand was all about.
Making it his goal to re-discover Bangkok, Co spent thousands of hours on his mountain bike exploring the vast network of local streets, alleyways, footpaths and canals between the main urban thoroughfares. What he found, lurking behind the facade of modernization, were hidden worlds of peace and tranquility, a picture of “real” Thai life that has remained unchanged for countless decades; an identity of a city that is true to the Thai people, yet largely unknown to outsiders.
Whether it’s the colorful sights and smells of the local markets, the fascinating life of locals along the canals, or the surprising existence of bountiful green belts, Co discovered the essence of what makes Bangkok one of Asia’s most captivating cities. Since then, it has been his mission to share these discoveries with the rest of the world.
What we do
Our mission at Co van Kessel Bangkok Tours is to provide our guests with a singularly unique travel experience in Thailand. All our tours use Co’s extensive topographical knowledge of the greater Bangkok area as well as his keen eye for the interesting to take you where nobody else can or will.
We aim not to bore you with talk, but to immerse you in an experience where your individual fascinations emerge.
Bicycles, boats, and our feet become the tools we use to gain access to the previously inaccessible, behind-the-scenes lifestyle of the Thai. Here the roots of an ancient culture will become evident in a way you never could have imagined.
