Bangkok, Thailand Travel Guide: Grand Palace, Chao Phraya River, Wat Pho Tour + AMAZING Thai Food
This is our city guide and a full-day tour of Bangkok during our Thailand Trip. Most of Bangkok's notable historical and cultural sites can be seen in a day or two. We partnered with Thai Tour Guide in a six-hour tour of the city that included the Grand Palace, a private long-boat ride on the Chao Phraya River, Wat Pho and a tasty Thai food lunch.
Our tour guide, Joy and a driver picked us up in a large van to transport us the different sites in a stress-free manner. First, we head to, The Grand Palace, the cities most famous landmark. It is a complex of buildings and has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam since 1782. Most tourists come to see Wat Phra Kaew, which houses the famous 14th century Emerald Buddha. This is Thailand's most sacred site, and out of respect, men and women, must wear long pants and shirts with sleeves. Young children are exempt from this rule.
After touring the Grand Palace, we head to the pier close by to take a long-tail boat cruise on the Chao Phraya River. Before boarding, our private boat we pick up delicious Thai ice tea, coffee, and some traditional Thai sweets. The ride from the long-tail boasts beautiful views of the Grand Palace and city skyline before heading to the traditional canals.
After the ride, we grab a quick lunch at the Krua Khun Kung at the Navy Club of Bangkok. Some of the highlights of the meal include a huge mango smoothie, Tom Yong Goong soup, and squid with salty egg.
We then make our way in the air-conditioned van to Wat Pho (Wat Po or The Temple of The Reclining Buddha), a Buddhist temple complex south of the Grand Palace. A must for any first-time visitor to Bangkok, it is famed for its giant reclining Buddha that measures 46 meters long and is completely covered in gold leaf.
The tour also included a visit to Bangkok's Flower Market, but by this time our two batteries were drained from the filming. The market is not be missed either and gives you a glimpse of the importance of flowers in Thai culture.
To learn more about Thai Tour Guide visit: We highly recommend Joy, who was not only extremely knowledgable but compassionate and accommodating to our special needs as a family with three young children.

5 Places to visit in BANGKOK (Co van Kessel Guide)
5 Places to visit in Bangkok.
** JJ GREEN HAS CLOSED DOWN SINCE SEPTEMBER 2018! **
If you are planning your trip to Bangkok, you’ll probably hear the same things over and over again. The grand palace, reclining buddha and khao san road. Now we are not saying these places are bad, but we would just like to give you some alternatives.
Here is OUR list of places to visit in Bangkok.
1. Wat Prayoon
The adress is 24 Prajadhipok Rd, แขวง วัดกัลยาณ์ Khet Thon Buri, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10600.

Wat Prayoon is open everyday and there is no entrance fee.
2. Saphan Taksin Park
The address is Soi Charoen Nakhon 13, the best way to get here, is to take the BTS or the Chao Phraya express boat to Saphan Taksin, and then walking across the bridge or by taking the local ferry boat.
3. Airplane Graveyard
Ramkhamhaeng Road | Hua Mak, Bang Kapi, Bangkok 10240,
The best way to get to the Airplane Graveyard is by Taxi.
*Pro tip: Use Grab Taxi, you can write the address in the APP, so there should be no confusion for the driver.
It is open from 9 am till 4pm.
The entrance fee depends on what the family wants you to pay it is normally around 200-400 baht.
4. JJ GREEN
เลขที่ 1 ถนนกำแพงเพชร 3, แขวงจตุจักร, Chatuchak, Bangkok 10900

5. Co van Kessel
The address is: Charoen Krung soi 24.
Co van Kessel bike tours and boat tours provides a refreshing alternative to the tired tourist experience. We do not battle the crowds at clichéd destinations promoted in guide books, but turn your attention to quaint local communities and charming excursions into the fascinating lifestyle and culture of real Thai people. Every day is different and every tour is a surprise as we focus not on destinations, but lose ourselves in the enchantment of the journey itself.
Co van Kessel, an innovative and adventurous Dutchman, pioneered bicycle tours in Bangkok more than 30 years ago. As a longtime resident and self-professed lover of Bangkok, he understood very well the picture of accelerated urban development (gridlocked traffic, concrete towers, and choking pollution) that has plagued the recent image of the city. He also had a hunch that this was not what Bangkok or Thailand was all about.
Making it his goal to re-discover Bangkok, Co spent thousands of hours on his mountain bike exploring the vast network of local streets, alleyways, footpaths and canals between the main urban thoroughfares. What he found, lurking behind the facade of modernization, were hidden worlds of peace and tranquility, a picture of “real” Thai life that has remained unchanged for countless decades; an identity of a city that is true to the Thai people, yet largely unknown to outsiders.
Whether it’s the colorful sights and smells of the local markets, the fascinating life of locals along the canals, or the surprising existence of bountiful green belts, Co discovered the essence of what makes Bangkok one of Asia’s most captivating cities. Since then, it has been his mission to share these discoveries with the rest of the world.
What we do:
Our mission at Co van Kessel Bangkok Tours is to provide our guests with a singularly unique travel experience in Thailand. All our tours use Co’s extensive topographical knowledge of the greater Bangkok area as well as his keen eye for the interesting to take you where nobody else can or will.
We aim not to bore you with talk, but to immerse you in an experience where your individual fascinations emerge.
Bicycles, boats, and our feet become the tools we use to gain access to the previously inaccessible, behind-the-scenes lifestyle of the Thai. Here the roots of an ancient culture will become evident in a way you never could have imagined.

TRIP TO THAILAND, BANGKOK CITY, EXPLORING BANGKOK, BEST THAI BEACHES
TRIP TO THAILAND, BANGKOK CITY, EXPLORING BANGKOK, BEST THAI BEACHES
Bangkok (English pronunciation: /ˈbæŋkɒk/) is the capital and most populous city of Thailand. It is known in Thai as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (กรุงเทพมหานคร, pronounced [krūŋ tʰêːp mahǎː nákʰɔ̄ːn] ( listen)) or simply About this sound Krung Thep (help·info). The city occupies 1,568.7 square kilometres (605.7 sq mi) in the Chao Phraya River delta in Central Thailand, and has a population of over 8 million, or 12.6 percent of the country's population. Over 14 million people (22.2 percent) live within the surrounding Bangkok Metropolitan Region, making Bangkok an extreme primate city, dwarfing Thailand's other urban centres in terms of importance.
Bangkok traces its roots to a small trading post during the Ayutthaya Kingdom in the 15th century, which eventually grew in size and became the site of two capital cities: Thonburi in 1768 and Rattanakosin in 1782. Bangkok was at the heart of Siam's (as Thailand used to be known) modernization, during the later 19th century, as the country faced pressures from the West. The city was the centre of Thailand's political struggles, throughout the 20th century, as the country abolished absolute monarchy, adopted constitutional rule and underwent numerous coups and several uprisings. The city grew rapidly during the 1960s through the 1980s and now exerts a significant impact among Thailand's politics, economy, education, media and modern society.
The Asian investment boom in the 1980s and 1990s led many multinational corporations to locate their regional headquarters in Bangkok. The city is now a major regional force in finance and business. It is an international hub for transport and health care, and has emerged as a regional centre for the arts, fashion and entertainment. The city is well known for its vibrant street life and cultural landmarks, as well as its notorious red-light districts. The historic Grand Palace and Buddhist temples including Wat Arun and Wat Pho stand in contrast with other tourist attractions such as the nightlife scenes of Khaosan Road and Patpong. Bangkok is among the world's top tourist destinations. It is named the most visited city in MasterCard's Global Destination Cities Index, and was named World's Best City for four consecutive years by Travel + Leisure magazine.
Bangkok's rapid growth amidst little urban planning and regulation has resulted in a haphazard cityscape and inadequate infrastructure systems. Limited roads, despite an extensive expressway network, together with substantial private car usage, have resulted in chronic and crippling traffic congestion. This in turn caused severe air pollution in the 1990s. The city has since turned to public transport in an attempt to solve this major problem. Four rapid transit lines are now in operation, with more systems under construction or planned by the national government and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
The Phi Phi Islands (Thai: หมู่เกาะพีพี, rtgs: Mu Ko Phiphi, pronounced [mùː kɔ̀ʔ pʰīː.pʰīː]) are in Thailand, between the large island of Phuket and the west Strait of Malacca coast of the mainland. The islands are administratively part of Krabi province. Ko Phi Phi Don (ko (Thai: เกาะ) meaning island in the Thai language) is the largest island of the group, and is the most populated island of the group, although the beaches of the second largest island, Ko Phi Phi Lee (or Ko Phi Phi Leh), are visited by many people as well. The rest of the islands in the group, including Bida Nok, Bida Noi, and Bamboo Island (Ko Mai Phai), are not much more than large limestone rocks jutting out of the sea.
Ko Phi Phi was devastated by the Indian Ocean tsunami
Ayutthaya Day Trip From Bangkok | The BEST Temples in Thailand
An Ayutthaya day trip from Bangkok is completely doable (and easy) all on your own! We left from our hotel near the Sutthisan Metro Station in Bangkok and headed north to Bang Sue Railway Station where trains depart for Ayutthaya every hour. Approximately two hours later, we arrived at the Ayutthaya Station, walked directly west to the ferry, and rented bikes across the river (rental bikes are 50 baht for the day on this side, and you do not have to pay extra to transport them on the ferry).
The rest of the day was spent meandering through the expansive Ayutthaya UNESCO World Heritage Site, quite possibly the best temples in Thailand. We visited four main sites (Wat Mahathat, Wat Ratcha Burana, Wat Phra Si Sanphet, and Wat Chai Wattanaram), but there are countless more that you could spend multiple days exploring. Most temples have an entrance fee of 50 baht, but we attended during the holiday period and were lucky to have free entry!

Planning a Family Trip to Bangkok & Pattaya | 6 Days Itinerary
Planning a family trip to Bangkok and Pattaya:
▶ Visa: Thailand, being a tourist country, offers Visa on arrival(VoA) for more than 21 countries. Also you can apply for Tourist Visa from your home country to avoid standing in queue, especially if your flight arrival is in the morning hours.
▶ Forex: Thai Baht (THB) is the official currency of Thailand. You can see many currency exchange offices across Bangkok & Pattaya and hence you may carry any popular currency with you. Or you can carry USD, which is highly in demand in Thailand and you will get the best conversion rate.
▶ Transportation: You can book airport transportation via Klook. Within Pattaya, the cheap and convenient option is Tuk-tuk. For sight seeing in Bangkok, again you may book via Klook.
Itinerary:
----------------------------
▶ Day 1 (0:24): On arrival at BKK, transfer to Pattaya Hotel. In the afternoon, visit Ripley's Believe It or Not! Not great, but kids will enjoy it.
Next, you can do some shopping at Central Festival, on the beach road.
▶ Day 2 (3:08): Explore Coral Island (Koh Lan). Take the government ferry, which costs just 30THB/person, to the Coral Island. You will see many private players offering motor boat etc. but the catch is they will take you to different part of the island.
Spend the entire day in this island; enjoy the white sand beach, take part in water sports. Make sure you return before 5PM as the last ferry leaves at 5PM.
After coming back from the island, if you still have energy, after 6, go for a sight seeing in the walking street. It is safe, even with kids, but avoid if you have teenagers with you.
▶ Day 3 (4:26): Reach The Sanctuary of Truth on or before 10AM. Enjoy the architectural marvellous of this temple which is constructed using Teak wood. They have cultural shows at 11:30AM and 3:30PM, if interested, watch them, do an elephant ride or a horse ride around the temple.
