Mandarin Oriental, Paris celebrates its entry into Paris society with a glamorous gala attended by more than 500 celebrities, dignitaries and society guests.
Located on rue Saint-Honoré, one of the most fashionable streets in the world, surrounded by haute couture and only a few steps away from the city's famous attractions, the red carpet event drew a stellar crowd. Celebrities included: Alain Delon; Liam Neeson; Maggie Cheung; Vanessa Mae; Kenzo Takada; Helene Grimaud; Bruno Frisoni; Pierre Gagnaire; Mireille Darc; Patricia Kaas; Frank Leboeuf; Aurélie Dupont and Julie Depardieu to name a
few.
Guests were treated to a delightful evening of entertainment which included a performance from internationally renowned virtuoso violinist Vanessa Mae, an amazing display by the award winning Guangzhou Acrobatic Troupe of China and a dance of the fans invoked by choreographer Blanca Li, whose show was inspired by Mandarin Oriental's fan symbol. The menu was designed by celebrity Chef Thierry Marx, the hotel's resident chef, while music was provided by renowned French sound designer Béatrice Ardisson.

Situé dans un bâtiment classé années 30, ce palace de 8 étages a été réhabilité par l’architecte Jean-Michel Wilmotte. Ce palace contemporain, véritable vitrine du design français et de la haute couture, est un mélange d'inspiration Art déco et de raffinement oriental. Sybille de Margerie a signé l’aménagement et la décoration des chambres, du spa et du lobby dans lequel trône une impressionnante sculpture de Nathalie Decoster. Dans les chambres et suites, le cristal, la laque et la feuille d'or se marient aux tissus les plus précieux comme le taffetas, la soie et le velours aux tons chaleureux. Toutes possèdent un mobilier élégant et des œuvres d'art contemporaines signées Ali Madhavi, Thierry Bisch ou Nathalie Decoster. Located in a historic eight story 1930s building, the creation of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel was entrusted to architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte who made it a veritable showcase of French design and high fashion inspired by Art deco and Oriental refinement. Sybille de Margerie was in charge of the room decorations, the spa and the lobby where guests can admire the impressive statue by Nathalie Decoster. In the 99 rooms and 39 suites, crystal, lacquer and gold leaf are combined with highly precious fabrics like taffeta, silk and warm tones of velvet. All the rooms have elegant furniture and contemporary works of art by Ali Madhavi, Thierry Bisch or Nathalie Decoster. At the Bar 8 and the 2 restaurants, designers Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku created a totally white decor designed to enhance the incredible cuisine proposed by the Michelin Guide starred Chef, Thierry Marx. Finally, as in all Mandarin Oriental hotels, the spa is truly exceptional. Wherever one looks, there’s luxury and romance tinted with typical Mandarin Oriental exoticism.

During the chic party entitled J'aime la MOde, guests were treated to a delightful presentation of the new collection 'Pop In Toile De Jouy' by the Parisian Fashion school Mode'ESTAH in the garden and Bar 8. The menu was designed by the hotel's two-Michelin- starred Chef Thierry Marx, while music was provided by renowned French sound designer Ariel Wizman.

Tai Chi & Taiko/Kodo at Mandarin Oriental, Paris
24 hours prior to the opening of Mandarin Oriental, Paris, our colleagues gathered in Jardin des Tuileries to practice either Taiko/Kodo or Tai Chi.
The Human Resources team organized a unique team building activity for our colleagues by inviting Tai Chi and Taiko/Kodo masters to give us a sneak preview of both disciplines. Each colleague chose one of the two activities and followed a rigorous training for 2 weeks in order to be fully prepared for today's performance.
Tai Chi is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both its defense training and its health benefits. Tai Chi circulates the body's invisible energy and calms the mind whereas Taiko/Kodo which means heartbeat, is a traditional Japanese drum, is a very demanding physical activity, which is played in groups.
