Etiquette Tips, Barcelona - Spain Travel Guide
Noon lunches? Bad idea in Barcelona. Few other customs and etiquette tips for Barcelona.
As a visitor of the city it always help to be aware of the local customs and etiquette. Barcelona is the capital of the Catalon region. Many of its residence have a strong sense of idenity. As a result, catalon and the Spanish have both official language. Locals appreciate a lot if you show some knowledge of Catalon culture and language.
I used to know lunchs and dinner at 6 p.m. If you stick to this schedule in Barcelona, you will probably be the only one in the restaurant. In Barcelona lunch starts at about 2:00, 2:30 and dinner at 9:00, 9:30 the earliest. Generally people in Spain prefer to entertain their guest in restaurants or bars than at home. But, if you are invited to a private party at home, a bottle of wine or some chocolates or even flowers is really appreciated.
People in Barcelona are very particular about dressing up, especially when they are going out. So, make sure you check your dress code before heading out. When you are greeting somebody, it is two kisses, one on each cheek. A handshaking is okay but a little bit too formal. In Barcelona people are more relaxed about tipping. In restarant, tips might be included in service charges. If not, 5 or 10 percent on the bill is fine. Or small change on the bar is also okay. I am Montse Triola informing you about Barcelona.
Montserrat, Day tour from Barcelona Spain. Best ever in Catalonia.
Mount Montserrat was one of the best day tour we made from Barcelona. However weather was not 100% in our favour, Me and my wife enjoyed the most. Not more then an hour and half train ride from Barcelona, Mount Montserrat offers different way to climb in. One is via train and another is via cable car.

I recorded this short video presentation for my profile in one of the online tourguide listings I advertize. And since I liked it, I decided to share it here too, so you can get a more updated version of myself as my other presentations. After so many years giving tours (I started in 2000!), in this video I look much more secure than in my first presentation and I have much clearer ideas of why it's so great to live in Barcelona and be able to share it with our visitors.

The Barri Gòtic (Catalan for Gothic Quarter) is the center of the old city of Barcelona. Many of the buildings date from medieval times, some from as far back as the Roman settlement of Barcelona. Catalan modernista architecture (related to the movement known as Art Nouveau in the rest of Europe), developed between 1885 and 1950 and left an important legacy in Barcelona. Several of these buildings are World Heritage Sites. Especially remarkable is the work of architect Antoni Gaudí, which can be seen throughout the city. His best-known work is the immense but still unfinished church of the Sagrada Família, which has been under construction since 1882, and is still financed by private donations. As of 2007, completion is planned for 2026.
Barcelona was also home to Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion. Designed in 1929 for the International Exposition for Germany, it is an iconic building that came to symbolize modern architecture as the embodiment of van der Rohe's aphorisms less is more and God is in the details. The Barcelona pavilion was intended as a temporary structure, and was torn down in 1930 less than a year after it was constructed. A modern re-creation by Spanish architects now stands in Barcelona, however, constructed in 1986.
Barcelona won the 1999 RIBA Royal Gold Medal for its architecture, the first (and as of 2015, only) time that the winner has been a city, and not an individual architect.
