It is a shrine where our Lady of Good Health appeared to Milk Boy and Lame Buttermilk vendor and blessed them. It is located at the town of Velankanni in the state of Tamilnadu in India. Let us too have the blessing of our Lady of Good Health of Velankanni.

The Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health is located at the small town of Velankanni in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India. The Roman Catholic Latin Rite Basilica is devoted to Our Lady of Good Health. Devotion to Our Lady of Good Health of Velankanni can be traced to the mid-16th century and is attributed to three miracles at sites around where the Basilica stands: the apparition of Mary and the Christ Child to a slumbering shepherd boy, the curing of a lame buttermilk vendor, and the rescue of Portuguese sailors from a violent sea storm. These accounts are based on oral tradition and there are no written or attested records in support of them. The Holy See has not approved these apparitions.
The chapel was finally built by Portuguese sailors. More than 500 years later, the nine-day festival and celebration is still observed and draws nearly 2 million pilgrims each year. The Shrine of Our Lady of Vailankanni, also known as the Lourdes of the East, is one of the most-frequented religious sites in India.

The foundation-stone was blessed and laid by the Auxiliary Bishop of Bombay. Mgr. Winnibald Menezes , on the 26th of January 1975. The following year the Shrine was completed and on the occasion of the N...ativity Celebrations of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Rt. Rev. Dr. Alfonso Beretta, P.I.M.E., Bishop of Warangal (A.P.) blessed the Shrine on 8th September, 1976. A year later, His Eminence, the late Cardinal Valerian Gracias, graced the Nativity Celebrations with his presence all the devotees were touched by his visit. He celebrated the Eucharist and in his homily he paid glowing tributes to Fr. Bruno Venturin, an Italian missionary, who has provided for the devotees at Irla a place of Veneration to Our Lady of Velankanni. Fr. Bruno Venturin was a member of the Pontifical Institute for Missions Extension (P.I.M.E)
The Statue of Our Lady of Velankanni within the Shrine is attributed with miraculous power and day by day attracts more and more devotees from every caste and creed even from great distance.
The Novena Services have been held every Saturday since 1968 when the P.I.M.E fathers first came to Mumbai
