Bastei Bridge Germany - A natural wonder
From Dresden Germany I took a 50 minute train trip, about $7 each way, to Bastei Bridge near the town of Rathen along the Elbe River. Bastei Bridge is a natural landmark with remarkable stone formations located in the hills. It has a number of small bridges that let you get some good views. There's a 2 euro cost for one section which is really worth it. The hike is uphill but but a kid can do it.
P.S. I visited this Bastei Bridge and Dresden for fun and to research my book, a biography titled, Ludwig Richter: The Story Artist. Ludwig Richter was a wonderful Dresden artist and illustrator from the 1800's. His life and work is fascinating, funny, and inspirational. He lived through a terrible Napoleonic war, saw battle, traveled mostly by foot to an artist community in Rome, climbed Mount Vesuvius, escaped bandits, fell in love, suffered tragic loss, but went on to become to become one of the most beloved illustrator of his time. His work would later influence a young Walt Disney. The biography is at Amazon and is free to read if you have kindle unlimited or a $3 for a download. You can read it with the kindle app. A paperback copy is also available. The book has over 150 images by Ludwig Richter as well as his artistic friends and colleagues. I hope you check it out! The Bastei is a rock formation towering 194 metres above the Elbe River in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains of Germany. Reaching a height of 305 metres above sea level, the jagged rocks of the Bastei were formed by water erosion over one million years ago. They are situated near Rathen, not far from Pirna southeast of the city of Dresden, and are the major landmark of the Saxon Switzerland National Park. They are also part of a climbing and hiking area that extends over the borders into the Bohemian Switzerland (Czech Republic).

Je to jedna z nejnavštěvovanějších turistických atrakcí v Saském Švýcarsku. The Bastei has been a tourist attraction for over 200 years. In 1824, a wooden bridge was constructed to link several rocks for the visitors. This bridge was replaced in 1851 by the present Bastei Bridge made of sandstone. The rock formations and vistas have inspired several well-known artists, among them Caspar David Friedrich (Felsenschlucht)
The spa town of Rathen is the main base for visiting the Bastei; the town can be reached from Dresden by paddle steamer on the river Elbe.( )

W 1824 r. pobudowano drewniany most znajdujący się ok. 110 m n.p.m., na prawym brzegu Łaby, pomiędzy miejscowościami Rathen i Stadt Wehlen. Since we were already so far east, we went a little further towards the border and visited the Bastei Bridge. The Bastei is a rock formation towering 194 metres above the Elbe River in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains of Germany.

The Bastei ( 305 m above sea level ) is a rock formation with observation deck in the Saxon Switzerland on the right bank of the Elbe in the area of the municipality Lohmen between the health resort Rathen and city Wehlen . It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Saxon Switzerland. From the bastion, the narrow rocky ridge drops steeply over 194 m to the Elbe. It offers a wide view of the Elbe Valley and the Elbsandsteingebirge . On the plateau behind the bastion there is a hotel with a restaurant.
If you travel by car you should drive to this point to reach the Bastei Bridge:

Ein schwebender Steg für die Bastei
Fast eineinhalb Jahre nach der Sperrung der Basteiaussicht in der Sächsischen Schweiz zeichnet sich eine spektakuläre Lösung für Sachsens berühmtesten Blick ab.

Lohmen/Rathen. Es ist so nasskalt und neblig, dass man nicht mal einen Hund vor die Tür jagt, geschweige denn wandern möchte. Das Thermometer zeigt zwei Grad über null an. Die Sicht beträgt höchstens 50 Meter. Ein paar Schneeflocken haben die Nacht auf dem kalten Boden überlebt und trotzen dem Regen. Dennoch füllt sich der Parkplatz 400 Meter vor dem Restaurant Bastei nach und nach mit Autos und Bussen. Asiatische und deutsche Touristen steigen aus. Auch Besucher aus Tschechien schauen sich etwas ungläubig um. Alle laufen Richtung Basteifelsen. Doch der berühmte Aussichtspunkt ist gesperrt - seit Mitte des vergangenen Jahres schon. Die Ausflügler müssen zumindest an diesem Tag nicht traurig sein. Selbst wenn sie den Felsen betreten dürften, würden sie nichts sehen. Dicker Nebel liegt über der Elbe und über dem Bilderbuchort Rathen. Nur ab und zu schiebt sich ein Sandsteinfelsen durch das Nebelmeer.

Die Bastei ist eine der meist besuchtesten und schönsten Sehenswürdigkeiten der Sächsischen Schweiz. Die Felsformation mit mehreren Aussichtsplattformen liegt zwischen dem Kurort Rathen und der Stadt Wehlen. Verschiedene Wanderwege führen zu dem beliebten Ausflugsziel. Die Bastei befindet sich ~200m über der Elbe und dem Kurort Rathen. Von den Aussichtspunkten bietet sich eine tolle Aussicht ins Elbtal und über das Elbsandsteingebirge. Ich war im Juni 2018 wieder einmal dort und habe ein kurzes Video für euch gedreht.

Bastei bridge je jednou z největších dominant Saského Švýcarska, kterou byste si neměli nechat ujít při návštěve Bastei.
Silnice k Bastei bridge leží mezi městečky Rathewalde a Lohmen. Po cestě k mostu narazíte na několik parkovišť. Jedno hned na odbočce mezi zminovanými městy a další přibližně 500 metrů od mostu. Doporučujeme si sebou vzít eura (mince) jak na zaplacení parkovného(3-5,5€) tak na koupení nějaké svačiny u stánků, kterých je tu více než dost.
