LONDON WALK | Oxford Street at Christmas - Tottenham Court Road to Oxford Circus | England
A first-person perspective London walk tour of the Oxford Street at Christmas 2017 from Tottenham Court Road to Oxford Circus.
See all the sights as Watched Walker (yes, I’m talking about myself in the third person!) takes us on a walking tour through the streets of London, featuring Oxford Street at Christmas including the bauble Christmas lights on the eastern end of the street. The route begins on the corner of Tottenham Court Road, then travels west along Oxford Street, ending at Oxford Circus.
Sights seen along the tour include Centre Point, Dominion Theatre, Tottenham Court Road Station, Christmas lights and decorations, and many stores (including The Gift Shop, M&S, Uniqlo, H&M, Boots, Aldo, JD, Miss Selfridge, Nike Town).
And in each video I've hidden a blinking eye, can you spot it? (It could appear more than once). In addition to the blinking eye, I've also added the Watched Walker logo to various scenes–it could be on buildings, vehicles or any other objects, so keep an eye out for it too!
Footage recorded November 2017.

TRIP TO LONDON, OXFORD STREET, CENTRAL LONDON, OXFORD STREET IN LONDON
TRIP TO LONDON, OXFORD STREET, CENTRAL LONDON, OXFORD STREET IN LONDON
London Listeni/ˈlʌndən/ is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames in the south east of Great Britain, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. It was founded by the Romans, who named it Londinium.London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) medieval boundaries and in 2011 had a resident population of 7,375, making it the smallest city in England. Since at least the 19th century, the term London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms Greater London, note 1] a region of England governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. The conurbation also covers two English counties: the small district of the City of London and the county of Greater London. The latter constitutes the vast majority of London, though historically it was split between Middlesex (a now abolished county), Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire.
London is a leading global city, with strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism, and transport all contributing to its prominence.[It is one of the world's leading financial centresand has the fifth-or sixth-largest metropolitan area GDP in the world depending on measurement.[note London is a world cultural capital. It is the world's most-visited city as measured by international arrivalsand has the world's largest city airport system measured by passenger traffic.[ London is one of the world's leading investment destinations, hosting more international retailers and ultra high-net-worth individuals than any other city. London's 43 universities form the largest concentration of higher education institutes in Europe, and a 2014 report placed it first in the world university rankings. According to the report London also ranks first in the world in software, multimedia development and design, and shares first position in technology readiness. In 2012, London became the first city to host the modern Summer Olympic Games three times. The etymology of London is uncertain.[50] It is an ancient name, found in sources from the 2nd century. It is recorded c.121 as Londinium, which points to Romano-British origin.[50] The earliest attempted explanation, now disregarded, is attributed to Geoffrey of Monmouth in Historia Regum Britanniae. This had it that the name originated from a supposed King Lud, who had allegedly taken over the city and named it Kaerlud
OXFORD STREET, LONDON, SCENES FROM BUSY OXFORD STREET IN LONDON
OXFORD STREET, SCENES FROM BUSY OXFORD STREET IN LONDON, LONDON BUSES Oxford Street is Europe's favourite shopping area, making shopping in London easy and enjoyable and has more than 300 shops and many services available. Oxford Street is a major road in the City of Westminster in the West End of London, running from Marble Arch to Tottenham Court Road via Oxford Circus. It is Europe's busiest shopping street, with around half a million daily visitors, and as of 2012 had approximately 300 shops. It is designated as part of the A40, a major road between London and Fishguard, though it is not signed as such, and traffic is regularly restricted to buses and taxis.
The road was originally a Roman road, part of the Via Trinobantina between Essex and Hampshire via London. It was known as Tyburn Road through the Middle Ages and was once notorious as a street where prisoners from Newgate Prison would be transported towards a public hanging. It became known as Oxford Road and then Oxford Street in the 18th century, and began to change character from a residential street to commercial and retail purposes by the late 19th century, also attracting street traders, confidence tricksters and prostitution. The first department stores in Britain opened on Oxford Street in the early 20th century, including Selfridges, John Lewis and HMV. Unlike nearby shopping streets such as Bond Street, it has retained an element of downmarket street trading alongside more prestigious retail stores. The street suffered heavy bombing during World War II, and several longstanding stores including John Lewis were completely destroyed and rebuilt from scratch.
Despite competition from other shopping centres such as Westfield Stratford City and the Brent Cross shopping centre, Oxford Street remains in high demand as a retail location, with several chains hosting their flagship stores on the street, and has a number of listed buildings. The annual switching on of Christmas lights by a celebrity has been a popular event since 1959. However, the combination of a very popular retail area and a main thoroughfare for London buses and taxis has caused significant problems with traffic congestion, safety and pollution. Various traffic management schemes have been proposed by Transport for London, including a ban on private vehicles during daytime hours on weekdays and Saturdays, and improved pedestrian crossings.
London walk: Oxford Street via Marble Arch, Bond Street, Oxford Circus, Tottenham Court Road, Soho
Oxford Street walk - 40 minutes
Oxford Street is London’s most famous shopping street (probably), so join me on this London walk from Marble Arch crossing Park Lane, to join Oxford Street at its western extent to walk its full length ending at New Oxford Street at its eastern point. We pass some of the top London stores such as Selfridges and His Masters Voice, and three of London’s tube stations in the form of Bond Street Tube, Oxford Circus Tube and Tottenham Court Tube. At Oxford Circus we can see Regent Street to the north and south of us before the final leg of this 40-minute walk takes us to Tottenham Court Road crossing north to south and New Oxford Street heading east. Not quite ready to end my walk there, I head back down Oxford Street to finish up in Soho Square.
To help with following the walk, I have named the roads that cross Oxford Street as I get to each one plus quite a number of the shops are identified throughout the walk. If you are a really serious shopper and want to find your favourite shops, try one of the Oxford Street shops maps, such as the Time Out guide.

My equipment:
DJI Osmo Pocket. I am still learning how to use this little device. It has a tendency to have the camera slightly raised at the start of filming focusing a little too high on the horizon, so I am trying to remember to tilt it slightly downwards. The result this time is that the first ten minutes or so of the walk are somewhat too bright with a bit of a white sheen spoiling the depth of the colours. I corrected this when I noticed it during filming and the colours thereafter are improved. It also filmed a few sections upside down!

Oxford Street Christmas Lights 2019 “Switch-On Event” ✨ Walking London at Night
A first-person perspective festive London walk tour at the Oxford Street Christmas Lights Switch-On Event 2019, which was advertised as 5pm-10pm, but unfortunately the lights were turned on prior to this (so I couldn't film the switch-on), and there were no on-street countdown or celebrations - which was a shame as 2019 marked 60 years of Oxford Street's festive displays, with brand new lights this year made up of 27 LED light curtains with 220,000 individual lights.
As there were no actual celebrations, we instead take a walk along both sides of the whole of Oxford Street (as well as in the centre at some points), from the Marble Arch end (to the west) to the Tottenham Court Road end (to the east), and then back again, passing through Oxford Circus twice, as well as looking at a few festive store window displays.

Explore Oxford Street - London: Travel Video Guide
Oxford Street is a one and a half mile of unrivalled shopping experience. This world-famous road includes 300 stores, several department stores, international and British brand names and plenty of restaurants and cafes. You could spend a whole day walking up and down this street.
She Spent A Lot Of Money - Oxford Street Vlog
Hope you guys enjoyed the video because i've really come to love vlogging and let me know in the comment if you enjoy them too.
Travel plans taking you to London? Well, you’re in for a real treat when it comes to London shopping. It’s not only a top city for visiting but a top one for shopping with its numerous retail districts, shopping streets, specialty stores and clothing styles.
For first-time London visitors, these eight shopping areas are some of the best you’ll find, with each bringing something unique to the fashion table. Be sure to bring an extra suitcase and book a London hotel room big enough to hold all the shopping bags full of clothes you’ll bring back after a shopping spree through this stylish city.
1. Oxford Street
One of the busiest streets in London, if not the busiest, is Oxford, and it’s all because of the variety of shopping this street offers. Oxford Street is considered the heart of the city’s shopping, boasting more than 300 shops, outlets and stores and an assortment of choices from British and international designers. A Londoners favorite is Selfridges, where fashion, furniture and food are available for purchase. Its constantly changing, controversial and even a little bizarre at times window displays are one of the biggest draws into this department store.
Tip: Weekends are crazy busy so to keep your sanity and better enjoy shopping here, come during the week, preferably during the morning.
2. Knightsbridge
Knightsbridge is another well-known retail district and one of the more unchanged, appealing parts of central London. Some say it comes second to only Oxford Street. A local shop that tourists love is Harrods. This famous British store has a range of luxury and everyday products throughout its seven floors spread out over 4.5 acres. It’s highly likely whatever you’re looking for, you’ll find it and more here. Since Harrods attracts millions of tourists every year, locals prefer to shop at Harvey Nichols, a more chic, classy retail store offering all your favorite designer labels.
Tip: Go to Sloan Street in this area for all the designer shops, like Gucci, Armani and Christian Dior, as well as some specialty lingerie shops.
3. Bond Street
A concentrated area of sophistication and designer shops, Bond Street is where the rich and famous flock to. It’s a hot spot for international designers and for those with expensive and extravagant tastes. But it’s not just apparel shops. Exclusive jewelers like Tiffany & Co. and Cartier are also found on this elite street. Bond Street formed from New Bond Street and Old Bond Street.
Tip: Antiques and art are also sold in this area. Sotheby’s is the world’s oldest auction house and it’s found on this street.
4. King’s Road
This area came to life during the 60s and 70s and is now the place to find trendy boutiques, high-street regulars, designer shops and interior design inspiration. Clothing shops on King’s Road are for the customer with a lot of cash or high-limit credit cards, so be prepared to find higher prices on the cute dress and pair of heels you find. Hit the right stores and you’ll find vintage gear you might like or might just give you a good laugh
5. Carnaby Street
Carnaby Street was the talk of the area during the Swinging Sixties. It’s the birthplace of the “mod” movement, a modernist movement of British teens who wanted to break away from their parents and tradition, so they wore bolder styles and listened to edgier rock music. Today it still has cutting-edge clothing styles. Numerous shops, bars and restaurants cover this area, so buy some urban wear or a vintage mod outfit and then relax with dinner and a drink.
Tip: Kingly Court is a courtyard behind Carnaby Street that’s a must-stop shopping and dining area.
6. Covent Garden
Want variety? You’ll find it at Covent Garden. Shop for menswear, women’s fashion, kid’s clothing and sweet treats here. Stop and rest your feet with a cup of coffee and a snack in between stores at one of its many cafes, delis or restaurants. Covent Garden also features three markets. Jubilee Market changes up throughout the week so depending on the day you can find antiques, clothing, household goods, and arts and crafts. East Colonnade Market sells a variety of items, including some hand-made and hand-knitted ones, seven days a week. Apple Market focuses on artwork, antiques, accessories, fashion and home wares.
Tip: Walking is the best way to get to and see the surrounding areas of Covent Garden, while driving is the worst because parking is extremely restricted.
Tip: Just a bit northwest of Jermyn Street is Savile Row, which is the place to go for the finest British tailor-made suits.
A stroll through these stylish streets or into one of these exclusive neighborhoods gives you a taste of some of the finest London styles and international fashion any true shopper can appreciate and show off back home.
