Beaman Park: An Oasis in Nashville, Tennessee
Nashville is a dynamic urban center with a growth rate that tops the nation. In August of 2015, Nashville’s Beaman Park expanded by 568 acres on the edge of the Western Highland Rim through the vision of The Nashville Open Space Plan, the investment of the city and the generosity of the Gilbert family. This brings the footprint of the rugged, wooded park in northwest Davidson County to 2,246 acres — an increase in the park’s size by one-third.
Metro Parks, working in conjunction with The Land Trust for Tennessee, acquired the land from Harris Gilbert and his family, who have owned the property on Little Marrowbone Road for 65 years. The family sold the property significantly below market value to benefit the community—now and into the future.
From 2007 - 2015 in Mayor Karl Dean's two terms and through his commitment to conservation:
◾Nashville has increased parkland by 25 percent and increased greenways by 50 percent with 40 miles of new trails.
◾In addition to this project, The Land Trust has conserved 500 acres of private land in Davidson County through 20+ projects.
◾The addition of 568 acres to Beaman Park creates a vast park second in size only to The Warner Parks.

Edwin Warner Park
Nashvillians are are so fortunate, in that, there were individuals who sat on the Park Service Board that were forward thinking. They they created a 2,600 acre park in South West Davidson County that generations have enjoyed. The park was named after the man who conceived this idea, Edwin Warner.
Edwin Warner Park officially opened in 1927 and is the Crown Jewel of the Davidson County Park system. It is the largest municipal owned park in the State of Tennessee.
The parks offer a variety of trails for running, hiking and biking. Cars can drive through the approximately 11 miles of paved, tree-lined lanes.

Best hike ever!! Nashville, TN
Super fun hike we saw lots of cool stuff.
Wildflowers and insects were EVERYWHERE. Cedar Glades in TN. 2.
We took our time while walking this trail and spotted the elusive Blackberry Lily. This was our first sighting of this beautiful and wild flower. The brown spots just 'pop' against the dark tangerine orange petals.
Cedar Glades in TN., Chasing wildflowers and solitude. 1.
Out in the middle of nowhere; the cedar glades of TN. We took a Sunday morning stroll in search of the elusive blackberry lily and giant swallowtail butterflies. SUCCESS! July 2017.
It takes SWEAT to maintain Warner Parks' trails.
How are the 12+ miles of hiking trails in Nashville's Percy and Edwin Warner Parks maintained? With a lot of SWEAT! Friends of Warner Parks board member Amy Marsalis talks about the SWEAT program with team member Alex. SWEAT stands for Special Work Education and Trails, and the program hires a team of hard working individuals to spend eight weeks each summer on trail maintenance and repairs as well as other park improvements. This program, funded by Friends of Warner Parks, along with a grant from REI, helps ensure these beloved trails are safe and accessible for all to enjoy.

Timberland Park - new trails in Williamson County, TN
Visiting the new Williamson County park just south of the Natchez Trace Parkway bridge. Only a little under one mile of trail at this point but they've got big plans for this 72 acre park.Despite the liberal use of the crap font Papyrus with impunity, this is a cool addition to Williamson County (at least it's not Comic Sans).

Since moving to North Nashville, we've yet to have time to do some proper exploring until now. Both Fontanel and Beaman park are right down the street from our house. We'll definitely be going to both these places more.
