Bendigo Australia - Van life and Art Gallery
Woke up in our campervan in Heathcote/Graystone National Park then drove to Bendigo . We visited the Bendigo Art Gallery and then wandered the street art covered laneways. Finished off the day seeing an Echidna while driving in our campervan to a free camp in Maldon to have dinner and relax outdoors.

Monumental Forever Marilyn sculpture arrives in Bendigo, Australia
Forever Marilyn, the monumental Marilyn Monroe sculpture by artist Seward Johnson, has arrived in Bendigo!
Watch her installation as she touches down on Australian soil for the first time. The eight metre high sculpture will be on show in Bendigo until July 2016.
Forever Marilyn comes to Bendigo ahead of the exhibition Bendigo Art Gallery and Twentieth Century Fox present Marilyn Monroe, 5 March - 10 July 2016.

Some of the finest examples of British art will travel to Australia for the first time in March 2014. Close to 100 works from the Royal Academy of Arts, London, featuring revered works by J.M. W. Turner, Thomas Gainsborough, John Constable, John Singer Sargent, Henry Fuseli, John Everett Millais, John William Waterhouse and Sir Joshua Reynolds will be showcased.
The Royal Academy of Arts was considered the primary art institution and the leading venue for the study and display of art in Great Britain and Europe until at least the beginning of the 20th century. As such, for ambitious Australian artists, exhibiting at the Royal Academy was considered paramount for developing reputation and renown. To complement the works on loan from the RA, 30 significant works by Australian artists such as Nicholas Chevalier, Tom Roberts, John Longstaff, Rupert Bunny, Arthur Streeton, E Phillips Fox, Margaret Preston, Agnes Goodsir and William Dobell who were educated, then exhibited and subsequently gained reputation through the RA have been included.
The exhibition will draw on the wealth of the Royal Academy collections ranging from paintings and sculpture to works on paper and historic books. Australian works drawn from collections across State galleries in Australia will sit alongside these masterpieces. The Royal Academy has existed for 245 years and this exhibition will focus on a key period in the institutions history, the 'long 19th century' from 1768 to 1918.
This exhibition has been curated by MaryAnne Stevens and Helen Valentine, with Nick Savage and Annette Wickham, from the Royal Academy of Arts and Karen Quinlan and Tansy Curtin from Bendigo Art Gallery. It has been organised by Bendigo Art Gallery and the Royal Academy of Arts, London.

Bendigo Art Gallery -- creative economy and the art museum | Karen Quinlan | TEDxBendigo
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Art Galleries can create economic opportunities for a city. Using examples from Australia and abroad, Karen illustrates the power of regional art galleries to change the cultural attitude of its community.
Karen is currently Director of Bendigo Art Gallery, Trustee of the State Library of Victoria, Chair of the Public Galleries Association of Victoria and was recently appointed as Adjunct Professor, La Trobe University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
She has been instrumental in bringing international exhibitions to regional Victoria: 'The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947-1957'; 'The White Wedding Dress: 200 Years of Wedding Fashion'; 'Grace Kelly: Style Icon' and 'Genius and Ambition: The Royal Academy of Arts, London 1768-1918'.

'Marimekko: Design Icon 1951 to 2018' traces Marimekko’s meteoric rise from the 1950s to the present, and explores the dualities that define its aesthetic. Its iconic fabric patterns and unconventional ready-to-wear outfits brought colour and informality to an otherwise self-conscious fashion world. With more than 60 outfits, swathes of original fabrics, homewares, sketches and other archival materials, the exhibition focuses on the work of the talented individuals who defined this local textile practice and created its internationally recognisable designs.

House of Mirrors Bendigo Art Gallery
House of Mirrors is a fascinating walk-through installation composed of a labyrinth of seemingly endless mirrors.
Created by Melbourne installation artists Christian Wagstaff and Keith Courtney, House Of Mirrors focuses on the darker side of altered perception playing with themes of uncertainty, thrill and paranoia.
Constructed with forty tonnes of steel and fifteen tonnes of mirrors, the barebasics installation relies on precise geometry and spatial design to lose yourself in endless reflections.
No added gimmicks, no special effects and no special lighting. The primary ingredients are carefully arranged mirrors, geometry and pure optical illusion.
House Of Mirrors brings an authentic sense of amusement – a thrilling blend of delight and fear.
Imagining Ned at the Bendigo Art Gallery
In this week's update we caught up with Bendigo Art Gallery's Senior Curator, Leanne Fitzgibbon, about the unique display of works in the Bendigo Art Gallery's latest exhibition, Imagining Ned.
Imagining Ned presents the history and legend surrounding the Kelly gang through original artefacts, such as Kelly’s famous armour, letters, weaponry, associated ephemera and other historic items, as well as a survey of artistic output exploring images of Ned. The exhibition is on display until June 28, 2015.
