Manhattan
Manhattan is the most densely populated borough of New York City, its economic and administrative center, and the city's historical birthplace.[2] The borough is coterminous with New York County, founded on November 1, 1683 as one of the original counties of the U.S. state of New York. The borough consists mostly of Manhattan Island, bounded by the East, Hudson, and Harlem Rivers, and also includes several small adjacent islands and Marble Hill, a small neighborhood on the U.S. mainland.
Many districts and landmarks in Manhattan have become well known, as New York City received a record of nearly 60 million tourists in 2015,[22] and Manhattan hosts three of the world's 10 most-visited tourist attractions in 2013: Times Square, Central Park, and Grand Central Terminal.[23] The borough hosts many world-renowned bridges, such as the Brooklyn Bridge; skyscrapers such as the Empire State Building, one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world;[24] and parks, such as Central Park. There are many historically significant places in Manhattan: Chinatown incorporates the highest concentration of Chinese people in the Western Hemisphere,[25] and the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village is considered the birthplace of the modern gay rights movement.[26][27] The City of New York was founded at the southern tip of Manhattan,[2] and the borough houses New York City Hall, the seat of the City's Government.[28] Numerous colleges and universities are located in Manhattan,[29] including Columbia University, New York University, and Rockefeller University, which have been ranked among the top 35 in the world.
New York City
The City of New York, often called New York City or simply New York, is the most populous city in the United States.[9] Located at the southern tip of the State of New York, the city is the center of the New York metropolitan area, one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world.[10][11] A global power city,[12] New York City exerts a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace[13] defining the term New York minute.[14] Home to the headquarters of the United Nations,[15] New York is an important center for international diplomacy[16] and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world.

Strolling round the Pond, Central Park, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA
The Pond is one of Central Park's seven naturalistic water bodies. Despite the millions of visitors who walk by the water's edge each year, you can still find a sense of solitude. It's hard to believe that this setting -- like almost all of Central Park -- is completely man-made.
At the northeast end of the Pond is Gapstow Bridge. Across the simple stone bridge is a fenced-in, wooded promontory that juts into the water. This is Hallett Nature Sanctuary. Behind Hallett's gates is a 3.5-acre ecosystem that mimics the wild, where small animals and birds can thrive in a secluded habitat.
0:03 - Standing by the edge of the Pond, watching a duck.
0:14 - Walking along the side of the Pond with Gapstow Bridge in view.
0:28 - Looking back at the skyscrapers overlooking the Pond, such as The Sherry-Netherland on 5th Avenue, 745 Fifth Avenue - home to Bergdorf Goodman and The Plaza Hotel New York.

Super Cool New York City Holiday Windows
Frosted fairies swoop between snow-covered trees as they guide a young boy from his bed to a whimsical forest with reindeer, angels and holiday magic.
No, it's not a trailer for a Disney release - it's just outside the Macy's flagship store in New York City, where six display windows have been transformed into an animated story.
While retailers in cities across the United States also deck themselves out for the season, none put on a bigger show than New York's storekeepers, who use everything from social media to 3-D projections to provide retailtainment.
And each year the stores keep upping the ante.
In 2011, Barney's invited pop sensation Lady Gaga to unveil its holiday windows and this year the store teamed with rapper Jay Z to curate its windows.
Saks Fifth Avenue shut down traffic in front of their store for a show that includes ballet dancers and a light show.
While Bergdorf Goodman's flew acrobats out fourth-floor windows.
Many stores are installing high-tech window displays to try to interest a new generation of shoppers.
Lord and Taylor is allowing shoppers to take a holiday photo.
While window designers at Saks paid tribute to social media by building its theme around a YouTube video of a yeti rumored to live on the roof of the store.
An app allows spectators to flick customized snowflake projections onto the display windows.
Happy holidays!

'Magical' holiday displays light up New York City
(20 Dec 2018) 'MAGICAL' HOLIDAY DISPLAYS LIGHT UP NEW YORK CITY
New York City is known for its extravagant holiday decorations and 2018 is sure to please both locals and tourists alike.
Saks Fifth Avenue offers a grand holiday spectacle, lighting up the flagship store's facade and also six windows, each with a color theme highlighting the store's luxury merchandise.
Native New Yorker Steven Latture visits the display every year and said, It seems like Saks Fifth Avenue and the other windows, they continue to outdo themselves. It's just amazing. It's just amazing. It's a holiday tradition for me.
Kristin Eaton, visiting from Maine, said the windows are beautiful and added, It's amazing to just walk by and hear the Christmas music and see all the lights and it's really fun and festive.
Bergdorf Goodman filled their windows with dreamlike confections of all kinds including cakes, cookies, ice cream and manequins with candy heads.
The Cartier store wrapped itself in a giant red bow and displayed miniature figurines dressed in red uniforms carrying tiny boxes wrapped with red ribbons.
Macy's, which has been doing the window displays since the 19th century, dressed up its Herald Square flagship store windows with animated characters and holiday scenes, including a group of adorable twirling snowmen.
Bloomingdale's 59th Street flagship took its cue from Dr. Seuss and Universal Pictures' Dr. Seuss' The Grinch. Clips from the recently released film play in the windows. There is also window karaoke with lyrics to classic holiday songs scrolling in a window.
Tourist Debbie Finn, visiting from England, said of the holiday windows she visited, Absolutely fantastic! We want to stay forever.
