Nothing much to see except batiks and cheap low quality t shirts. Hot and stuffy and not worth going with children.
Pasar BERINGHARJO Traditional MARKET Malioboro Yogyakarta / Beli CHEAP BATIK Murah [HD]
The Beringharjo Market (Indonesian: Pasar Beringharjo, Javanese: Pasar Beringharja) is the oldest market in the Kraton area of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, having been a continuous place of trade since 1758. Right next to Jalan Malioboro, Beringharjo Market is located on Jalan Margo Mulyo No. 16, Yogyakarta; the word beringharjo has the literal meaning of banyan tree forest, a reference to the former trees that occupied the land, as well as to the notion that the market was expected to provide welfare for Yogyakarta residents. The various stalls at Beringharjo Market sell a variety of goods, including batik, clothing, souvenirs, fast food, traditional snacks (jajanan pasar), basic ingredients, household items, jamu (traditional herbal medicine), and antiques.

Beringharjo has been functioning as a trading place since 1758. Now, it offers more merchandise, ranging from batik, traditional snacks, Javanese herbs, to Buddha effigy costing hundreds thousands.
If you want to buy batik, Beringharjo is the best place because of its complete collections; ranging from batik cloth to batik clothes made of both cotton and silk materials, with the prices ranging from tens thousands to a million. Collection of batik cloth is available in west and north parts of the market, while batik clothes collection is available almost everywhere in the west part of this market. In addition to batik clothes, the west part of the market also offers traditional clothes: surjan, blangkon, and sarong both woven and batik printed ones. Sandals and bags sold at reasonable prices are available around the escalator of the west part of the market.

Pasar Beringharjo is a popular market located off Malioboro Street (one of the main streets in Jogja). It’s a great place to visit if you want to sample some of Yogyakarta’s traditional foods and some Javanese dishes.
We start outside the market and eat pecel a cooked vegetable salad drizzled with peanut sauce before heading inside and upstairs to find Empal Bu Warno which serves up smoky fried beef and intestine on rice, together with basil, cucumber and a thick, sweet sauce reminiscent of molasses.
To cool down, we perch on a stool in front of Mbah Hari’s small stand and let her dish up a bowl of es dawet a refreshing mix of coconut milk, palm sugar and rice flour and tapioca flour jellies. To finish- the ultimate sate- sate kere or beef fat sate. Chunks of pure fat that sizzle over charcoal and then ooze as you chomp down on them. You might not feel like eating for many hours afterwards because they’re so rich but they’re worth it. Trust us.
Where we ate:
All stalls at Pasar Beringharjo (off Malioboro street) Jalan Margo Mulyo No.16, Ngupasan, Gondomanan, Kota Yogyakarta, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta 55122. Visit in the morning to early afternoon.
Nasi Pecel at Mbak Sri Cilik outside the market.
Iso goreng and empal goreng (fried intestines and fried beef) at Empal bu warno (south side of the market, on the second floor opposite Masjid Muttaqien)
Es Dawet from Mbah Hari (north side of the market)
Sate Kere (beef fat sate) from the stall outside the market on the south side.
