Traveling in Tuscany: The Best Wine Tasting & Wine Tours - Wine Oh TV
Wine Oh TV's Monique Soltani is Traveling in Tuscany and shows us the Best Wine Tasting and Wine Tours in the Italian Wine Region.
This is the second video of a three part video series I'm producing which highlights my recent trip to Tuscany. In my first video, Traveling in Tuscany: Uncorking Chianti Classico, we learned what Chianti Classico IS. Now it's time to introduce you to some of the amazing men and women behind the bottle. Traveling in Tuscany: Wine Tasting & Tours gets up close and personal with the kings and queens of wine country who roll out the ruby red wine carpet in our honor.
If the royal treatment wets your appetite, then meeting the Marquis of Tuscany should make you salivate. We get a taste of their intoxicating blends as we hold court at the new Marchesi Antinori Chianti Classico Cellar, go off-roading at Castello d'Albola and wine with Conte Sebastiano Capponi of Villa Calcinaia and Francesco Mazzei of Marchesi Mazzei.

Florence and Tuscany | Tuscan Wine Tour and Firenze
Hi and Welcome back to our Italy 2019 Mother-Daughter Vlogs!
In this vlog we left Lake Como for Firenze! It was my first time back to this lovely city in years, so I was excited to explore Florence with my mom and sisters. We had a lovely time taking in all the sites, and eating a lot of street food, especially gelato! Florence is a small city and so we decided to do a Tuscan Wine Tour. We visited Fattoria Poggio Alloro to start, where we sampled some wines, and ate cheese. We also got to meet the Chianina cows, and this for me was a bit traumatic. I had a strong emotional response to seeing these beautiful creatures. Next we visited the medieval town of San Gimignano, and got to explore this lovely historic town. After this we headed to our final winery called Tenuta Torciano. I personally really loved the winery, as we sampled many types of delicious wine, and ate a really lovely Florentine meal as well. It was very delicious and Gabriele was very sweet and charismatic. I recommend a wine tour when in Florence, there are a lot of options to consider in terms of wineries in Tuscany! I also mentioned our airbnb in Florence, it was so spacious, and in a perfect location. If you search for Old Florence - Ponte Vecchio flat with Elevator you will find it, here is the link:
Thanks so much for watching, if you enjoyed please give this video a thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe, especially so you don't miss out on the next Florence vlog as well! :)

Today, I decided it was time to try something new. I went on a guided tour to 3 different cities/towns in the region of Tuscany. We visited San Gimignano, Chianti, and Siena. We did some walking, sightseeing, and even some wine tasting! I must say, all 3 places are filled with architectural beauty and I recommend anyone to pay them a visit! Enjoy :)

Tuscan Truffle Hunting Tour in San Miniato details:
- The pickup time was at 10 am in front of the National Library which was an easy 15 min walk from our AirBNB.
- I booked the excursion online. The excursion costs 350 euros for two people.
- Came with a 3 course lunch with truffles and wine tasting
- If you have a car and just want to join the truffle hunting, you can do that. There was a couple in our tour that drove here themselves. They said they found them online and booked it on their own. - I also read that leaving from the San Miniato train station takes about a 15 minute taxi ride that costs €25 each way. It takes about 30 minutes to take the train from Florence.
- DO BORROW their boots because the forest is often muddy.
- October and November has the best climate for truffle hunting. Although I'm here in October, today wasn't the best climate for truffle hunting because it wasn't cold and wet enough.
Truffle Hunting Dog Details!
In Italy, the use of pigs has been prohibited since 1985. The pigs dig into the ground looking for truffles and harms the entire truffle ecosystem in the process. With dogs, they can smell the truffle and alert their owners. The owner then carefully digs up the truffle and then closes the hole back up for future truffles to grow back. Dogs like Choco cost up to $10,000 US!
Next stop: wine tasting!
This winery started in 1535. They not only produce wines - they also produce olives. They breed Cinta Senese to produce salami and prosciutto. Cinta Senese is a breed of Italian pig from the province of Siena, in Tuscany. They also produce honey and produce and everything is organic!
The big barrels can be reused for 15 to 16 years. These barrels are huge! The big barrow gives the wine a freshness and fruitier taste. The small barrels are only used for 3 years. After 3 years the barrel absorbs too much wine to be reused.
The green glass on top of the barrel allows the gas created by fermentation to escape while not allowing air back in. This cool contraption was invented by Leonardo Da Vinci.
After the tour we got to taste their wines along with some salami and prosciutto. They add fennel seeds into the salami. It was very good!
Why does Florence, Italy bread have no salt?
The bread made in this region of Italy has no salt added. I didn't know that as it was my first time trying saltless bread. I'll have to admit I like my bread with some sodium. Bread from Tuscany and Florentine and maybe some other places near by don't add salt to their bread. There are many reasons for this: I don't know which one is true. But here goes: salt used to be heavily taxed so to save some money they stopped adding salt to their bread. Another reason is during war between Pisa and Florence the Pisan army set up a blockade on the Arno River to prevent salt shipments from reaching Florence. Without salt, bakers just continued baking their bread without the salt. Last reason is Tuscan cuisine tend to be on the saltier side so the bread is to help eat the salty food.
Final STOP: Plaza Michelangelo. He was willing to drop us off there instead so we can catch the sunset.
It was nice because this place was on my list to visit and it saved me a hike up the hill to get there.
The view up here is amazing! You can see the entire city of Florence from here. It was a bit cloudy to see the sunset, but it was still very nice.

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | In this second of two episodes on Florence, we'll enjoy more of the exquisite artistic treasures of the city that propelled Europe out of the Middle Ages. Then we'll side-trip to a couple of rival cities and cultural capitals in their own right, Pisa and Lucca, where we'll marvel at a tipsy tower, circle a city on its ramparts, and enjoy some Puccini in his hometown. © 2012 Rick Steves' Europe
5 Best & Worst Things About Tuscany, Italy - Florence, Siena and Pisa
There are SO many great things about traveling in Italy, but also a few negative things - and some things that are great to keep in mind before you go there. After being in Tuscany for about a month, I'm sharing my 5 best & worst things about Tuscany.
I hope you can get a few tips and tricks to enjoy your stay there even more. My favorite things include - amongst other things - taking a cooking class and seeing the inside of the leaning tower in Pisa, and some of the worst things - in my opinion - are traffic and siesta.

Tuscany Tours Presents: The Best of Tuscany
Tuscany Tours, ( ) Italy’s best small-group (limited to 16 participants), escorted, tour company presents The Best of Tuscany.
9 glorious days exploring the best Tuscany has to offer – from Florence to Cortona and many places in between. Enjoy Tuscany’s rich history, art, culture, food, wine, and breathtaking scenery while having fun!
We've designed this tour as a sampler that provides a taste of the many pleasures that Florence and Tuscany have to offer. You'll have a chance to go wine tasting in Chianti, visit medieval castles, see art treasures of the Renaissance, explore Tuscany's picturesque towns and villages, and enjoy the exquisite local cuisine.
We'll be staying at charming, historic 4-star hotels in Tuscany. We'll spend the first portion of our week in Florence at a gracious hotel situated in a 15th-century palazzo in the historic core of the city, only steps away from many of the world's greatest collections of artistic masterpieces.
For the next portion of our adventure in Tuscany, we'll be based in a tiny village in the Chianti region at an elegant boutique hotel that was an 18th-century noble residence. From here, we'll visit the fascinating medieval city of Siena with its world-famous Gothic cathedral. And we'll make several short excursions to explore wine, food, and art in the marvelous hill-towns and villages that make this one of the most beautiful areas of Tuscany.
Lastly, we transfer to the ancient Etruscan town of Cortona which has recently been made famous by the book and movie, Under the Tuscan Sun. We'll be staying in a luxurious palazzo in the old town at the top of the mountain with commanding views of the Valdichiana plains down below.
You will have the opportunity to experience both the excitement and stimulus of the cities of Florence and Siena and the beauty and tranquility of rural Tuscan life. The small size of our group (maximum 16 participants) allows us to move about without following a red umbrella and to eat in restaurants and trattorias that are popular with the locals. In addition to breakfast, we share one full-course meal every day as a group, either lunch or dinner. Be prepared for a week of feasting at some of the finest restaurants in Tuscany!
The Best of Tuscany Tour combines daily planned activities along with unstructured time that you may spend as you like. If you have special activities that you'd like to pursue during the unscheduled portions of our tour in Tuscany, we're happy to help you arrange it. And if you'd like to visit other special places in Italy either before or after the tour, we'll be glad to assist with bookings, transfers, guides and all the rest.
During the tour, we offer presentations and slideshows to help you better appreciate the art and the places we visit. The rest of the time, we attend to all the details to make your travel adventure as smooth as possible. You get to relax and experience The Best of Tuscany!
