Gate mysteriously opens on the Kona Haunted Hele ghost tour | Big Island Ghost Tours
Last Friday night, July 17 2015, we had a really awesome Kona Haunted Hele tour, one of the best yet. All the guests, which included three youths who have done ghost tours in the past with mom, experienced a major supernatural event, and there was no short supply of chicken skin! A locked gate mysteriously opened right in front of everyone, multiple anomalies captured on film around the same time, and lots of activity on the dowsing rods and Mel Meter in response to our questions. Needless to say, everyone had a really good time!
The guests each had a cool research instrument courtesy of Kahuna Research Group, and were well prepared to deal with such an event. Our guides are certified paranormal investigators specifically trained to understand the supernatural, who not only know the stories and legends, they have actually investigated them and are currently involved in active paranormal cases.
Each tour is like an investigation / historical tour in one...which makes it more exciting than any other ghost tour in Hawaii.

The Hawaiian Islands, and especially the Big Island, are well known worldwide for their supernatural phenomena. Home of Madame Pele, the King's Trail, mystical Menehunes and the feared Night Marchers, the Big Island is not only the most historic of the Hawaiian Islands, it is also the most haunted.
From places where human sacrifice was performed for ancient gods & goddesses, to the more modern haunts including resorts and museums, many of the places we visit on our tours are history by day and haunted by night!
Big Island Ghost Tours was created in 2013 by author Zach Royer who has been exploring the secrets and mysteries of Hawaii with Kahuna Research Group for nearly half a decade. Historical information is often referenced on our tours, as well as eye-witness accounts. Our tours range from guided and self-guided tours to multi-day supernatural island adventures.

Tsunami Devastation: Kona Village Resort Hawaii
In 2011, the tsunami that struck the east coast of Japan sent smaller waves rippling across the pacific. One of these waves struck the island of Hawaii and damaged much of the Kona Village resort and the Four Seasons Hualalai resort. While the Four Seasons quickly repaired the damage and reopened, the Kona Village resort ran into numerous obstacles on the path to reopen, including calls from their creditors to repay their mortgage. The ensuing litigation and claims again the Kona Village resort resulted in a delayed reopening until sometime in 2019. This video shows the state of the Kona Village resort as of late May 2017. The tsunami damaged much of the underground utilities and some of the guest bungalows.

A Royal Battle, A King Sacrificed: Ke'eku, Big Island Hawaii
On the grounds of the Keauhou Beach Hotel are the remains of a heiau that served as both a luakini heiau (place of human sacrifice) and pu'uhonua (place of refuge). Built by the Hawai'ian Ali'i Lonoikamakakahiki in the 16th century, Ke'eku Heiau is one of the most famous religious sites in the State of Hawai'i because of its veneration in folk tales involving the 16th century wars between the Hawai'i and the Maui. The Heiau has walls an impressive 6 to 11 feet thick, and measures 150 by 100 feet in area. There are two stone features on the heiau's raised stone platform said to represent the defeated Maui Ali'i' Kamalalawalu's black and white war dogs, Kapapako and Kauakahiok'oka.
Carved into the rock in the inter-tidal region in front of this heiau is an impressive set of ki'i pohaku (petroglyphs). Due to geological subsidence of the island over the past several hundred years, these petroglyphs are visible only at low tide, or by mask and snorkel. There is one large anthropomorphic petroglyph in particular that is said to represent the sacrificed Maui Ali'i, Kamalalawalu.
To reach Ke'eku Heiau, park either in the Kahalu'u Beach Park or at Keauhou Ohana Beach Resort. From Kahalu'u, walk onto the Keauhou Ohana Beach Resort property through the gateway in the fence between them and follow the asphalt path to the pool deck, through the lobby of the resort and join the paved path that runs along the end of the Resort driveway. From the Resort parking lot, walk up the drive to the paved path that runs along the end of the driveway. Following along this path, one passes Punawai Spring first, then, where the path runs around the end of the tennis courts the Mo'o Twins homesite. Continuing on the path until it ends at a broken concrete bridge among No Trespassing signs is Hapaial'i Heiau. To get to Ke'eku Heiau, one may take one's chances crossing the old concrete bridge, or one can walk on stones and wade across the tidepool at low tide (be very careful, the rocks are extremely slippery). Immediately at the south end of the bridge begin the walls and platforms of Ke'eku Heiau. Although in ruin and disarray, this Heiau is one of the most accessible and impressive temple sites in the immediate area. Remember that these are holy religious sites to modern native Hawai'ians; to not trespass, walk or climb on the temple proper; take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints.
Further Information: During 16th century, Lonoikamakakahiki, a Hawai'ian Ali'i, and Kamalalawalu, an Ali'i of the Maui, had numerous battles for possession of each other's island. It is said of the penultimate of these battles, when the Maui attacked the Hawai'i, the numbers of warriors was so vast that as the first of the Maui war canoes were landing on Hawai'i, the last of their canoes were just leaving Maui.
Lonoikamakakahiki had become enraged with Kamalalawalu during the course of this battle. The invading Maui had captured his leading general, gouged his eyes out and then had spears run through his eye sockets. Lonoikamakakahiki vowed a bloody revenge.
When Lonoikamakakahiki's army vanquished the Maui, he took Kamalalawalu over to the Ke'eku Heiau and sacrificed him alive to celebrate the great victory. The method of sacrifice was slow and graphic. Kamalalawalu was staked to the ground for several days, then taken to a nearby flat rock and butchered. The body was then towed to sea and fed to the sharks (some versions of the folktale have Kamalalawalu impaled on a pole for several days, before being butchered on the flat rock).
Hawai'ian folktales hold that Kamalalawalu brought with him into battle two large, fierce war dogs, a white one (Kapapako) and a black one (Kauakahiok'oka). The dogs are said to have lain down and died on the spot of Kamalalawalu's execution. Although buried beneath the heiau luakini platform, it is said that these dogs can still be seen roaming, and heard howling, in the night searching for their fallen master. Two stone features found on the makai side of the Ke'eku Heiau stone platform represent Kamalalawalu's two dogs.
Petroglyphs along the rocks, visible at low tide between Kahalu'u Beach Park and Keauhou O'hana Beach Resort, commemorate the sacrifice of Kamalalawalu by Lonoikamakakahiki. No Services.

5 - 31 - 15 Magic Sands Waves - Kailua Kona, Hawaii GoPro Hero 3+
Normally I don't have people in my video that are as close as in the start of this video. These two were warned about the dangers of standing where they did. I really don't like shooting video where there are crowds of people so, when I do, I try and set up so there's little chance of someone standing directly in front. This was during one of the best sets and surges so, they are in the video. Camera was running before they walked down there.
I always say there are two types of visitors to Hawaii.
Tourists and Statistics. Don't be a Statistic when visiting Hawaii.
This is White Sands Beach Park. Also known as Magic Sands, Tragic Slams and more. Located on Ali'i Dr. Large surf generally takes all the sand away in the winter. Sometimes in the summer too if we get a large enough wsw swell. There are menacing rocks just underneath that sand. Best know how to go over the falls of a wave correctly or you'll be getting to know our local emergency room personnel. By the way, they are very nice at the ER.
This day we had a moderate ssw swell. Most often tourists neglect to watch what's going on before venturing out into the ocean. Even when the lifeguard warns people they still go out and either get injured or need to be rescued.
When the surf is pounding dislocated shoulders neck and back injuries are common here. Lifeguards are present during the day. Sometimes the fire Dept parks at the street just waiting for the next victim.
Myself, I surfed elsewhere that day.
Shot with a GoPro Hero 3+. Open back housing to capture sound better. Remotely operated via my Motorola Moto X and the GoPro app. 1080p 60 fps. Nikon version was 30 fps.

RAINBOW FALLS + Hawaiian Mythology - Hilo, Big Island, Hawaii
Rainbow Falls is exactly what it advertises -- an amazing waterfall with a rainbow that pops up around mid-morning on sunny days. As a bonus, there's an other-worldly banyan tree grove right next to it.
Just 15 minutes from the Hilo airport, this is a perfect quick & easy waterfall to checkout when you first arrive on the Big Island / the Island of Hawai'i or if you're driving in from Kona.
Even though this particular hike is, well, not a hike, it's still cool to see a waterfall of this size that is accessible to everyone.
This activity is great if you have a family, kids, or any older people in your group who wouldn't normally be able to hike into the wilderness to see a waterfall this majestic.

25 - Hawaii is HAUNTED!
Aloha beautiful ohana! In today's episode, we take a trip to Mackenzie State Park - an area that is known to be HAUNTED by local Hawaiians. After sunset, the park is said to be patroled by the ghosts of ancient Hawaiian warriors, known as the Night Marchers. Braving the spirit world is worth the risk though, because one of the most sacred places on the island is within the park. Hiking deep into a hidden lava cave takes you straight into the Eye of Pele!
After paying our respects to the Ancient Hawaiians and the Goddess of the Volcano, we take a bike trip around Volcano National Park and spend the day exploring!
Thanks so much for stopping by, see you tomorrow!
