This castle was built and continuing to be built by Jim Bishop. Jim Bishop has been building this castle for nearly 40 years. He does the work himslelf after a tragic accident to his son at this very castle. The work is so remarkable for being nearly built single handed by Jim Bishop.. Its artistry and wonder is captivating yet mysterious. I find this castle to be inspirational when thinking about what Jim was able to accomplish with his hands, determination, motivation, ands literally piles of rubble.
As of lately, the Bishop Castle has become the center of attention in local news as legal battles determining the future and fate of the castle has brought many inspired people to unite in support. Jim Bishop has also been battling health issues. Recent reports say that he has nearly had one good week of health since radiation. Our prayers and support our with you and your family Jim.

One Man Built A Castle! Colorado's Bishop Castle
A single man for many years has been working on something so majestic he even had to put a dragon on it... a castle made into the San Isabel landscape like nothing you have ever seen. For over 30 years his work has been tireless constructing soaring catwalks, towering stone towers and a beautiful cathedral fit for a king all hand crafted and fully tourable just south of Pueblo.

About Me:
After spending so much time working for others and missing out on life I started to realized something was missing. I never thought I could afford to take all the adventures on my bucket list but knew I had to give it a chance. A single job inspired me to change the way I was living and make time for the things which I had always wanted including travel. So, I downsized my life and started taking simple road trips on a budget spending more of my time on living life and less on stressing the how and the why.
I now road trip often sometimes solo and other times with friends and spread the message that life is to short not to live it to the fullest!!

Bishop Castle~Things To See In Colorado~RV Travel: A Must See!
Bishop Castle is a quirky, wacky must-see structure in Colorado.
It was built by one man.
Bishop Castle began as a teenager's vision while he was out mowing lawns in 1969. At the age of 15, he plunked down $450 on this $1,200 parcel of land that he would painstakingly turn into his personal kingdom.
Every stone, every plank, every curl in the ironwork, was done by Jim's hand.
Bishop calls it a monument to hardworking people and America's biggest, one-man, physical project.
I always wanted a castle, he said.
Well, he made it happen.
Thank you for watching...and for all of your kindness! :)

10. The term castle is actually very confusing in the English language.
9. It was through conquering the local castle that land was taken from another ruler in medieval times.
8. The most significant defensible feature a castle could receive was through location and not design.
7. Contrary to what many people about think, it is the gatehouse and not the central keep that was the very most important and defended part of a castle’s structures.
6. The internal & external walls of castles were not bare stone.
5. As a general rule Castle didn’t have large windows.
4. Castles did have secret entrances or back doors.
3. Properly designed Castles are much better at their job than many people realize or what is depicted in movies.
2. The most historically effective way to take a castle was by starving it out.
1. Castles required far fewer people to defend than people think.

Mystery Castle is a fortification located near the mountains of South Mountain Park, in the city of Phoenix, United States. The castle was built in the 1930s, in a mining area and used all kinds of materials for its work: recycled bottles, natural stones, wood, granite, bricks, glass, tires, among other elements. by Luther Boyce Gulley. In 1945 Mr. Boyce Gulley dies. The story goes that the castle was a gift from Boyce Gulley to his daughter Mary Lou. It is said that its construction lasted about 15 years, enough time to complete the building before Mr. Boyce Gulley died.2 Boyce Gulley had an imagination and a unique wit at that time. He gave himself the task of fabulously constructing arches made of different stones that varied according to their shape and color. It also contains cultural illustrations (dances, masks, and other figures), 3 4 a wardrobe with shoes made in stone, chandeliers in chimneys, stuffed animals, objects representative of the United States (flags, hats), among many others .2 The castle consists of 8000 square meters, also contains fireplaces, rooms and several sites of interest. The castle is open to the general public, you can visit all parts of the house like the chapel, the kitchen, the canteen, among others. Currently Mrs. Mary Lou lives in her house.
9. Bishop's Castle, Colorado (United States)
Bishop Castle (in English: Bishop Castle), is a small castle that began as a family construction project, located in the humid mountains of southern Colorado, in the San Isabel National Forest located northwest of Rye, Colorado, United States.1 The building is named after its own builder, Jim Bishop. The castle is located in south central Colorado along a public paved street, state highway 165, approximately 13 miles (21 kilometers) southeast of the intersection of state highway 96 and state highway 165. This road It is part of the Pathways Scenic and Historic Byway border. The construction of the castle began in 1969, when the bishop decided to build a family home. Several neighbors of the sector indicated that the structure looked like a castle. Bishop took into account this series of opinions from the community and soon began to build his castle. He bought the land at age fifteen for a price of $ 1,250. He has faced numerous challenges with local and state governments over property and activities developed on the site. The castle is open from dawn to dusk, seven days a week, throughout the year. Admission is free, although donations are suggested. Some signs inside the castle remind visitors that Jim Bishop is the castle's sole builder.

Roadside Attractions in Fort Collins - In A Colorado Minute (Week 199) [HD]
--- ---
When I posted the video Swetsville Zoo - In A Colorado Minute (Week 194), I already wrote about my fascination with roadside attractions. In my quest to visit, film and share with you a whole series of them, this week I explored the ones the fruitful website roadsideamerica.com listed for Fort Collins. Because two of them were dog related, I took Whiskey and her acting coach Scott along. Once I finished editing, I realized I might as well have called the video Whiskey takes a tour of Fort Collins Roadside Attractions - but that's just too long.
The large Campbell's soup can on the campus of Colorado State University was built (together with two others) in honor of Andy Warhol's soup can prints - but not by him. However, when he visited in 1981 for an exhibit of his work at the CSU art museum, he ended up signing the cans. Does that now make them authentic Andy Warhol works? Read an excerpt from Warhol's diary about his visit in this article from the Coloradoan. (Remington and Lake)
The scrap metal man and dog at the Nelsen's Auto Center were built by Tim Reader of Master Metal Works entirely out of used car parts. You may note that the two male metal beings were built with all necessary detail - however, in the video I chose to focus more on the faces, hands and my real life dog checking out the scene. I really appreciated Tim's sister coming outside to say hello and tell us about the sculpture. People really are nice out here. (361 E. Mountain Avenue)
The memorial to Annie, the Railroad Dog, has several parts. In Library Park (201 Peterson Street), there is a big engraved stone with a metal silhouette of Annie and a life-sized bronze sculpture (by Dawn Weiner) of her greeting passers-by - like she used to greet arriving passengers at the Mason Street train station in the 1930s and 40s. At the Mason Street Depot (Mason and LaPorte) you can find her actual gravestone, which is a historic site and reads From C and S Men to Annie Our Dog. 1934 - 1948.
Annie was a loyal mutt adopted by railroad workers and considered an ambassador to Fort Collins, according to the inscription on the base of the bronze sculpture. She is still celebrated every year during Annie's Dog Walk, which I may just feature in a future video.
Talking about future videos... Today starts the 200th week of my weekly 1-minute Moving Postcard videos! I already have something special planned, which will require a road trip (YES!) and will feature a rather well-known American roadside attraction...
