Contra Costa County - Black Diamond Mines Hike
Coal from the Black Diamond Mines fueled the fires of San Francisco. This Preserve offers insight into the life of Gold Rush era coal miners. Headstones tell of Welsh miners & their families who perishing in mine accidents or from disease. While the sun may shine outside, miners toiled in near blackness. Seasonal weekend tours are available at the Hazel Atlas Portal. Hiking to Stewartville hints at the remote, lonely life of settlers in the late 1800s. For a thrill, crouch & walk into the Prospect Tunnel.

S.P.I.R.I.T. Explores The Black Diamond Mines & Mt. Diablo
10-9-18 Black Diamond Mines and Mount Diablo
We got a call from a show producer who asked us if we knew much about the legends in the area. And if the claims were worth investigating further. We have had investigations in the Antioch area, but never really spent much time at the preserve. Melissa and Brent drive out there and do a mini investigation. Melissa picks up on a whole bunch of interesting things. A quick SB-11 Spirit Box session gives some validation that there are many of them still there. Including a little girl from the cemetery looking for her Mom. She has been seen by many people. A weird red light appears in the mine shaft as Brent pans the camera around. They assist a few souls to cross over as validated on the Spirit Box. The native energy is wonderful. The history and the mountain are very special. We definitely are going to go back and explore more.

Concord CA made some wonderful additions to their bike trail, allowing it to go under streets which would severely slow a bicyclist. They happened to have a river to build the 'underpasses' next to. A 10-12 minute drive to the hardware store takes only 20 on the bike. And it's a nice ride. Oh yeah, I edited out straight sections and added subtitles (1st time. yea!).

A Return To The Lower Levels Of The Abandoned Black Diamond Mine
The Black Diamond Mine - one of the oldest mines in the region - is so old that its early history has been mostly lost to time. However, it is believed that the site was originally discovered by a group of Chilean miners.
It has a fairly unique structure in that it is a vertical shaft plunging down into the Black Diamond Ridge and four separate and distinct tunnels intersect with the shaft at varying levels down the face of the ridge. Picture an E with an extra leg sticking out and you'll have the rough idea.
To see the first visit to this site and the upper levels of the mine, follow the link below:
