The Black Watch P&D parade Edinburgh's Royal Mile [4K/UHD]
Sorry for the gaps but youtube, after 3 years, decided some of these ancient tunes were copyright and to keep this video alive I have to painfully remove all of the copyright tunes.
UPDATE - New version with no gaps here -
Her was me thinking that a tune over 100 years old could not be copyrighted - oh well, how wrong I was!
I often get asked what I used to create this video, and here are my affiliated links, so please use these to purchase the equipment should you like what you see/hear: Rode Stereo Videomic used for sound - mounted on 4K Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2000/FZ2500 Camera

At around 10am the crown of Scotland will be transported down the Royal Mile from Edinburgh Castle to the Parliament accompanied by the 3SCOTS (Black Watch) pipes and drums.
The Queen will address the Parliament at 11am as part of a formal opening ceremony, which will be followed by a riding procession on the Royal Mile.
The bloke in the back of the car with the crown is none other than Alexander Douglas Hamilton - the 16th Duke of Hamilton

HONG KONG: 1ST BATTALION OF THE BLACK WATCH LAST REGIMENT TO SERVE
English/Nat
Bagpipers and Scottish sword dancers mark the British army's withdrawal from Hong Kong as more than 150 years of colonial rule draws to a close.
The First Battalion of the Black Watch has just arrived in Hong Kong and will be the last British regiment to serve there before the colony reverts to Chinese sovereignty in July.
Famous for their kilts, bagpipes and fiercesome Highland Charge, the First Battalion of the Black Watch will be doing a lot of this in the run-up to the June 30th handover.
The Pipes and Drums from this proud Scottish based unit will play a key role in the ceremonials.
It is not their first tour of duty in the British colony. The Battalion served in Hong Kong four years ago.
But it's the first visit by 21 year old Private Jamie Henderson. One of the best sword-dancers in the battalion.
SOUNDBITE:
It's quite a privilege and experience to be out here, I've never been this far abroad before so its' quite a long way from home, but it's quite exciting so far.
SUPER CAPTION: Private Jamie Henderson
The Black Watch was formed to keep warring clans in Scotland apart.
Unlike the army fatigues worn for normal army drills nowadays, they wore a tartan so dark it was almost black.
They got their name because their role was to watch over the turbulent Highlands of Scotland.
For most of their tour in Hong Kong they will perform normal military duties including anti-smuggling patrols.
They will also man observation posts near the Chinese border.
Of the 510 soldiers who will be stationed in Hong Kong for the next four months, around forty per cent have served in the territory before.
All are glad to be back to witness and take part in the handover.
SOUNDBITE:
I think it's the fact that we were here before, we made that good impression, and I think we did that good a job, they asked us to come back.
Hand over on a high note. (McDougall)
SUPER CAPTION: Private Graham Parker (L); Private Lawrie McDougall (R)
SOUNDBITE: English
As a Battalion we're very proud and very privileged to be coming back for such a big and historic occasion. Most of us, I say most of us - that's 50 per cent of us - were here in 1993/94 and we built up a great affinity and affection for Hong Kong, so to be able to come back within three years and do the handover ceremony is marvellous.
SUPERCAPTION: Lieutenant Colonel Alistair Louden, Commanding Officer, First Battalion Black Watch.
This is not the first time Black Watch has handed back a part of the British Empire.
The other occasion was independence in 1948 in India.
SOUNDBITE:
I think it's the fact that we were here before, we made that good impression, and I think we did that good a job, they asked us to come back.
Hand over on a high note.

Battlefield of Culloden Moor
Standing on Culloden Moor I saw nothing but blue skies, white clouds and grassy fields dotted with several trees. Upon first examination this seemed as quiet, remote and peaceful of a place you could ever visit; however, the truth is that Culloden Moor was the tragic battlefield grounds and final confrontation of the 1745 Jacobite Rising.
Dave, our gregarious guide from Haggis Adventures, clad in a kilt and wielding historical artifacts associated with the conflict (various weapons and flags) informed us of the significance of this now memorial site: No jokes, no humor at all. This is a massive war grave where my ancestors and other people's ancestors died needlessly. Just who the utmost respect guys.
Not far from our initial starting point stood a 6.1 meter memorial cairn with the following inscribed:
THE BATTLE
OF CULLODEN
WAS FOUGHT ON THIS MOOR
16TH APRIL 1746
THE GRAVES OF THE
GALLANT HIGHLANDERS
WHO FOUGHT FOR
SCOTLAND & PRINCE CHARLIE,
ARE MARKED BY THE NAMES
OF THEIR CLAN
Dave continued explaining the significance of Culloden to the Scots and especially the Jacobite highlanders: People come now to sing songs, tell stories and to remember on the 16th of April. A blind piper plays. He plays songs on the bagpipes for 45 minutes, which is the length that the battle lasted for. It tugs on your heartstrings.
The Battle of Culloden, which took place on April 16, 1746 near Iverness in the Scottish Highlands, was the final confrontation of the 1945 Jacobite Rising. Jacobite forces under Bonnie Prince Charlie fought passionately against loyalist soldiers under the leadership of William Augustus - better know as the Duke of Cumberland. This bloody and ultimately quick conflict lasted less than an hour in which an estimated 1,500 to 2000 Jacobites were killed/wounded as opposed to significantly less casualties from the redcoats. The aftermath of the battle was a time of oppression for Jacobites who were brutally marginalized earning the Duke of Cumberland the title of 'Butcher.' Policing and civil penalties were implemented with the intention of weakening the Scottish clan system and Gaelic culture.
Most tragic is the grave post of the 'Mixed Clans' - members who were so brutally disfigured in the battle that their remains were unidentifiable. Their family name and clan ties forever wiped out from history.
However, the spirit, passion, courage and morale of the Jacobite Highland forces remains in tales told today: Lord George Murray was a Jacobite General. He led a charge into the front-line of the British government army. Snapped his sword in two, lost his horse and came back out of the front line; he got another sword, got another horse and led a second charge in.
This battlefield is protected by Historic Scotland where a visitor center has been functional since December, 2007. On the anniversary of the battle people come to pay their respects.
Dave, accurately summed up the realities of war and conflict: One thing that is guaranteed in war is death. Death and destruction.
As someone with a certain amount of Scottish ancestry, I couldn't help put wonder how many of my relatives may have lost their lives on this very moor. Standing quietly on the field, I stopped to pay my respect with a minute of silence.
Balnuaran of Clava (Clava Cairn)
Overall, our first day visiting the highlands was an eye opening experience not only because of the stunning Highlands scenery but moreover because of the historical significance of the areas we visited:

Royals wearing tartan: The royals who look picture perfect in plaid
Kilts, plaid and check, oh my - Part 2
#royalsintartan #royalfamily #theroyalfamily
If there's a material the royal family love to wear, it's tartan; from kilts to scarves to hats to dresses (Princess Diana's favourite), the royals have long been associated with sporting a slither of tartan patterned wool. They even have their own Balmoral tartan, designed by Prince Albert in 1853, and many of the royals have their own too including the Queen - the Royal Stewart is the Queen's personal tartan. But when they're not wearing designs by Queen Victoria's husband, they're wearing everything from traditional checks to more avant garde plaids; the best tartan looks from the royals
The Duchess of Cambridge showed off her sporty side (in heels!) when she marked St Andrew's Day in 2012. The brunette beauty wore a green tartan coat dress from Q by McQueen for the occasion.
Capturing the spirit of the night, Princess Anne attended the 1995 Royal Caledonian Ball – a London-based fundraiser that benefits Scottish charities – in a tartan-topped dress.
The Queen looked regal in blue as she stood with her mother Elizabeth, husband Prince Philip and youngest son Prince Edward at the Braemar Games in 1975. Edward sported a kilt made from Balmoral Tartan while his father Philip donned one in Scotland's more traditional red.
In 2006, the royal couple selected their own tartan color scheme for the Scottish Braemar Gathering.
Princess Diana, Princess Of Wales made a statement during her 1990 tour of Japan in this tartan coat dress by Catherine Walker, highlighted with red accents. She later modernized the outfit when she cut the skirt's length to just above the knee.
In Scotland, William and Kate Middleton are known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn and Kate has drawn wardrobe inspiration from this alternative title, having worn a scarf made from Strathearn tartan several times. Here she is pictured during a 2013 visit to Dumfries House in Scotland, but she also selected the red, yellow and black accessory for the riverboat pageant during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and a visit to Edinburgh that same year.
The Queen Elizabeth II opted for a tartan skirt when she attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show, held in the grounds of Windsor Castle, in May 2014. Her Majesty is a keen horsewoman and always delights in attending the races.
Princess Diana, Prince Charles and Sarah, Duchess of York sported different colors and styles of tartan when they attended the 1986 Braemar Games.
The future King George VI (far right) wore tartan during a visit to the family's Scottish retreat of Balmoral with his wife Elizabeth (right), mother Queen Mary (middle) and brother George, Duke of Kent, also in a tartan kilt (far left).
Prince Charles gave the Balmoral Tartan a new twist in 1990 when he used it to fashion a sling for his arm in this family portrait. The Prince of Wales became injured when he fell from his horse during a polo match in June. Prince Harry (left), Prince William (right) and Peter Phillips (middle right) are also seen here in kilts fashioned from the Balmoral Tartan
