Nestled in a beautiful community off the beaten path, but just minutes away from historic downtown Black Mountain, you will find Bullhead Mountain Lodge. Masterfully and creatively designed by one of WNC's premier builders, Mark Barker, this luxury mountain lodge boasts a stunning architectural design framed by panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, the winding Blue Ridge Parkway, and well-known points of interest including Craggy Gardens, Craggy Pinnacle, and even Bullhead Mountain itself.
Artistically renovated incorporating natural and reclaimed materials, custom beamery, detailed mill work, and natural stone accents throughout. The impressive great room has soaring ceilings and large exposed beams that span the gracious open floor plan, thoughtfully designed for entertaining. Enjoy meals at the elegant dining area that seats a dozen, or steal away to one of two adjoining sunrooms offering panoramic mountain vistas and radiant floor heating on the north end and a poolside sunroom with an abundance of passive solar heat through skylights, sky tunnels, and intentionally placed stone and tilework on the
south end. Let the nighttime sky open up from the unique observatory loft with breathtaking mountain views.
Rustic elegance abounds in the lodge-style chef's kitchen offering beautiful custom cabinetry, a generous granite island, premium Dacor stainless steel appliances (including gas stove and convection oven), charming vintage light fixtures and a remarkable crows-nest architectural highlight that floods the kitchen with an abundance of warm natural light. While dinner is being prepared, cozy up in the adjoining sitting area with a charming river-rock stone fireplace and custom built-ins with an inviting atmosphere.
Escape to the luxurious master suite and enjoy your own private mountain views from the beautiful bay window that spans the wall of this spacious room. Rich hardwood floors create an elegant style that stretches to the adjoining dressing room with 8 closets, built in dressers and a wardrobe staging area. Be swept away by the impressive master bathroom with custom granite vanity, spacious air-jet tub, and massive natural riverstone shower with dual rainforest shower heads and an abundance of natural light – truly a must-see. A convenient room adjacent to the master bedroom would make an ideal private sitting area, nursery or office space with private entrance.
Designed for entertaining, this incredible property goes beyond the interior. Indulge in the outdoor living space this home affords. Enjoy summer afternoons by the full-size, in-ground pool with patio and adjoining pool room (includes separate shower and dressing stalls)… Relax after a long day in the soothing dry sauna off the master suite…Savor the cool mountain nights by stargazing from the 8-person luxury hot tub…cozy up around the outdoor fire ring or have lunch at the picnic table and enjoy panoramic mountain views.
Endless potential in this luxury mountain lodge. Currently utilized as a highly profitable vacation rental, it would be ideal for the buyer looking for a 2nd home and a dual-passive income situation. Being sold complete with elegant furnishings, enjoy over 5000 SqFt, new metal Lifetime Roof, new pool liner, and your choice of 7 bedrooms (most master suites) plus a fun “bunk room” that sleep 10!
Bullhead Mountain Lodge is currently working with an established local property management company and would be an easy transition if buyer choses to continue a like-kind business. Even WNC’s premier builder, Mark Barker, is willing and interested in continuing his vision of the property, at the buyer’s discretion.

Best Drug Rehabilitation | Peck Fest | Black Mountain Shine
If you or a loved one are struggling with addiction call (888) 820 5366
One of the most important parts of overcoming addiction is finding positive alternatives to using drugs or alcohol. Many of the patients that we see at Best Drug Rehabilitation come in afraid that they will never be able to have fun again. As they progress through their recovery program, they begin to discover that the “fun” that they thought they were having was more like a nightmare – a chaotic existence where pain, anger, guilt and resentment are standard, and the only thing that really maters is getting high or having a drink. They start to find other things to occupy their time. They may find a new passion in music or art, or rediscover an old hobby, such as writing or athletics. They begin to rediscover themselves, the person that has been trapped under the surface of drugs and alcohol for so long.
Recently, BDR had the opportunity to talk with many of the performers at a two-day music festival in West Virginia known as Peck Fest 2015, part of the “Taste of Nashville” Tour. Peck Fest was named in honor of Gary Peck, owner of the Kanawha River Campground in Point Pleasant, WV, where the event was held on September 4th-5th. We spoke with them about their viewpoints on substance abuse in the music community and in the world around us, and on some of the ways we can address these issues.
Trampus Stomper and Chris Rakes, two members of Black Mountain Shine, were among those that we were fortunate enough to speak with. “You gotta choose what path you want to take,” said Trampus. “Do you want to be where you want to be in 20 years, or do you want to be in the same place? I think different vices keep you from your goals and the person you want to be.” Chris spoke from a more personal place, sharing some of the things that he has seen in his own life in regards to substance abuse. “Different phases in my life where I’ve tended to consume maybe too much alcohol, for instance,” he said, “is when I’ve been most miserable in my personal life as well. The story ends the same – it’s a bad road to go down.”
Finding the right path and making the decisions necessary to remain on that path can come in many different ways. Every patient at BDR goes through their own journey to recovery from addiction, and each does so in their own manner. For some, it comes in reconnecting with the world spiritually. “One of the biggest things for me is faith,” Trampus explained. “Whether it’s in God or in somebody that you look up to, whatever it is, faith has a big part of what you’re doing. Take that step, believe in people, believe in God, and trust yourself, and I think everything works out. But you’ve gotta take that step.”
The substance abuse treatment program at Best Drug Rehabilitation is all about finding a new beginning in life, by making a total transformation from the hectic lifestyle of drug and alcohol abuse to a more productive and positive way of living. As our patients learn how to overcome their addictions, discovering the tools and skills that they need in order to face life’s obstacles without resorting to using drugs and alcohol, they also find a new outlook and appreciation for the world around them. They discover that there are plenty of alternatives to substance abuse, and that the power to remain free from the bonds of addiction rests in their hands. Though we are committed to helping our patients in every way that we can with every step that they take on the path to recovery, in the end, the choice is always up to them.

The Headwaters at Banner Elk - A North Carolina Mountain Community
866-200-3290 (toll free)
This is The Headwaters at Banner Elk, one of the most beautifully master planned and successful communities in the High Country. Im John Haynes, the developer, and over the next few minutes, Id like to take the opportunity to show you why this is so special.
When looking at mountain property up here in the High Country you have many available options. Pick up any area magazine and youre going to be inundated with ads claiming to have great, stunning, awesome views.
But what do you get beyond just the view? Well here at Headwaters, Im going to show you all the various amenities that come with your purchase.
As you can see here at Headwaters, we offer outstanding long-range views. Not only that but most of our views are of the south, east, and westerly orientation, which means you can enjoy both sunrises and sunsets from nearly any point on the property.
For example we have a half dozen beautiful parks scattered throughout the community for you to explore. Such as our Lakeside Park on the upper lake, or canoeing on one of our two lakes. How about a quiet moment at the Sunset Park overlooking the Pisgah National Forest?
If you have children or grandchildren, they are sure to enjoy our one-of-a-kind Deer Creek Park, featuring two Swiss Family Robinson style tree houses one with a sixty-foot swinging bridge.
Here at Deer Creek Park we have picnic areas and well-maintained trails. If you want to take the kids on an overnight campout, you dont even have to leave the property. Within Deer Creek Park we have several campsites available.
As you can see Ive gone to great lengths to provide far more than just great views, but a community you can explore and enjoy for years to come.
This is our new mountaintop clubhouse. You can envision yourself with family and friends up here gathering by the fire, or taking in the million dollar view from the decks.
Downstairs in the clubhouse, youll find a top of the line fitness center to help you keep in shape. Theres also a game room for the kids featuring foosball, ping-pong and a pool table. To top it all off you can take in a movie in our state of the art 14-seat theater with a 10 foot projection screen.
Youll enjoy the peace of mind that having personnel on the property provides while youre away from your Mountain Retreat. Furthermore, our friendly staff is right here on sight at our welcome center to help you with property questions and management issues.
The Headwaters is also the only community in Avery County to be a certified fiber optic community. Our property owners will enjoy internet speeds faster than a cable modem, up to 300 channels of digital cable, crystal clear long distance and remote home monitoring service, all through Connection Technologies, the nations largest provider of fiber for the home.
We have many available options. Such as these Woodlake Cottages featuring 2 and 3 bedrooms from the low $300s, or we have custom homes from the $800s or luxurious condominium villas starting in the uppers $200s.
One of our most exciting and newest offerings are the Springhouse Villas. Within the Springhouse Villas youll find the highest quality as any in the area. For example, the solid wood 8 foot doors, granite countertops in all kitchens and baths, with undermounted sinks. State of the art tankless water heaters, outside fireplaces, and were even using peeled Locust railings and pickets on our decks.
So where is this slice of heaven called The Headwaters? Just 12 minutes outside Banner Elk. Now Banner Elk, NC is a wonderful town featuring over a dozen outstanding restauraants, many of which have been featured in Gourmet, Wine Spectator, and Bon Appetit magazines.
The banks, boutiques, galleries, a pharmacy, and all the day to day services that one might need are all conveniently located to The Headwaters. Banner Elk is also home to Lees McRae College which offers outstanding theater and concerts throughout the year.
All of this just 12 minutes from the gates. I like to say we have The illusion of seclusion. That is, were close enough to town so that you can easily get anything you need, but just far enough out so that our viewshed is of the pristine Pisgah and Cherokee National Forests.

Community Information: Burnsville, NC
Whoever said small-town life was a small life never lived in Burnsville, NC. The town offers living situations and outdoor experiences that go above and beyond the norm, presenting you with many opportunities to Live the Life You Choose.
BHTV: Supporting Local Arts with HandMade In America -
Live the Life You Choose Video: Rural Living in WNC -
“Burnsville is kind of a cool place to be,” says Jamie McMahan, Yancey County Planner. “Our outdoor recreation has always been some of the best you’ll find on the east coast. The local art is some of the best in the nation. Downtown here—you can walk through the square, do a ‘360,’ look around—it’s Norman Rockwell. I mean, you can’t beat it.”
“You’re close to Asheville if you want the hustle and bustle, and if you don’t want the hustle and bustle, you’re just 35 minutes away,” says McMahan. “It’s the reason we have a lot of folks who live here, [who] both enjoy Asheville and Boone, but they want to be where life is a little slower. You can get to know your neighbors, and that’s what I think about when I think of Yancey County and Burnsville.”
“We draw a lot of people who come to Burnsville who plan other outdoor recreation,” says McMahon. “So many hiking trails. Of course, we're home to Mount Mitchell, the tallest peak east of the Rockies. Actually, 10 of the tallest peaks east of the Rockies are in Yancey County. So, a lot of outdoor recreation, a lot of people who are looking for fishing, hunting, hiking. We're ideally located sort of centrally to all those sorts of things. Burnsville is sort of the place where you can come hang out, have a coffee, do some shopping, if you’re not sweating on the trails somewhere, trying to pull a trout out of a stream nearby.”
“The retail merchants that you’ll find on Main Street are 100% independent retailers,” says McMahon. “All do a very thriving business, making it a sort of a very pedestrian friendly, very walkable, very energetic place downtown.”
“Yancey County and Burnsville are sort of going through a renaissance,” says McMahon. “The arts community here is very thriving. We're home to more artists per capita than any other place in the nation. Everything from fine arts to arts and crafts, blown glass, pottery. The Parkway Playhouse is just off of downtown, which is the longest running community theatre in North Carolina.”
“But most recently, we’ve actually had sort of a tech surge,” says McMahon. “Yancey County is also the only county in North Carolina to have 100% connectivity by fiber to the home. So no matter wherever you live in our rocky terrain here in Yancey County, because we’re pretty mountainous, you can be served with up to a full gig of service by fiber connection.”
“It’s a very wide and diverse group of folks who come here,” says McMahon. “We have a lot of native-born folks who grew up here and realize it to be the best place in the world. We have a lot of people who come here as soon as they can, as I like to put it—so, as soon as they discover Burnsville and Yancey County. So, a lot of folks who come from, really, all over the country have settled here and make it, really, a vibrant community.”
“To watch Burnsville change, as it’s changed and evolved and grown as a small town—I think it’s the ideal small town,” says McMahon. “And if you like that kind of small town life, you want to take it a little slower, a little easier—you couldn’t find a better place to be.”

Black Mountain Rag- Presley Barker, Wayne Henderson, Jeff & Luke Little Pickin' Porch 5/20/2018
This video opens with some discussion of Presley Barker's recent, inaugral appearance on The Grand Olde Opry as a guest of Ricky Skaggs. The Black Mountain Rag was played then and here in honor of the late, great Doc Watson of Deep Gap, North Carolina. On Friday night, 20 April 2018, The ACMA Pickin' Porch 1 featured a concert with Jeff Little on piano and vocals, Wayne Henderson on guitar, Presley Barker (13) on guitar and vocals, and Luke Little (18)- Jeff Little's son- on mandolin. If you are not familiar with all the well deserved praise for the talents of these four musicians, then listens to these videos and become a fan. Look closely, you will notice that their fingers never leave their hands.
The Pickin’ Porch and it's the sponsoring agency, the Appalachian Cultural Music Association, has recently moved to a new home in Kingsport, Tennessee. The new Mountain Museum and Pickin' Porch Stage 2 (seating now 80+) is at 316 Broad Street in downtown Kingsport TN. Pickin' Porch Stage 1 Theater (seating 261) has planned 18 events in 2018 and 2019 and has a revised location to be held in the Theater (Room 137) of the Kingsport Center For Higher Education on West Market Street. This facility occupies half a block and is about two blocks west of the Broad and Market Street intersection from where the outdoor stage for Blue Grass On Broad has always been located. This theater is also about three blocks from the ACMA Mountain Music Museum at 316 Broad street. Pickin' Porch Stage 2 in the Museum will be used for the traditional weekly shows featuring mostly local and emerging artists, and the Stage 1 Theater at the Kingsport Center For Higher Education will be used for special monthly concerts by touring bands with a modest gate charge.
CAMPUS LIFE IS GREAT!!! - DAY 11 - 2014 Black Mountain, NC
This is our last day in Black Mountain, NC. We decided to stay at the Blue Ridge Assembly, which is a beautiful non-denominational theological retreat in the mountains of Black Mountain. Many churches and universities visit here. The retreat offers a wide variety of religious speakers, presentation and study programs. The historical and spiritual significance of the campus makes it a beautiful place to visit.
Later in the day, we drove to Saluda, NC to visit a friend of Ricks. Then, we continued the drive South Carolina.
