South Haven, Michigan
South Haven is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. Most of the city is in Van Buren County, although a small portion extends into Allegan County. The population was 4,403 at the 2010 census.
Because of its position on Lake Michigan, at the mouth of the Black River, South Haven has always been a port city. During settlement, major ship lines stopped there, both passenger and freight. In the early 1900s South Haven became a resort town, sometimes referred to as The Catskills of the Midwest. South Haven is a major regional tourist draw because of its recreational harbor and beaches. It is the western terminus of the Kal-Haven Trail, popular with bicyclists and snowmobilers. Nearby are Van Buren State Park and the Van Buren Trail State Park.

Tour Homes Of Bay View Association, Petoskey, Michigan
Bay View is modeled on Methodist camp meeting resorts, such as Wesleyan Grove on Martha's Vineyard, Ocean Grove, New Jersey, or Lakeside, Ohio. The structures on the Bay View community consist of approximately 440 cottages and 30 community-owned buildings. There are two hotels on premises: Stafford's Bay View Inn (1886), and The Terrace Inn and 1911 Restaurant. Other facilities include a post office, beach with a swim area, children's pool and a sail house. The community is located on about 340 heavily wooded acres (140 ha), dropping in a series of terraces from a 200-foot elevation (61 m) to the shore of Little Traverse Bay.
Nearly all the structures in the community were built in the 1875-1900 time period. Most buildings are Eastlake and Stick style, with some Queen Anne and Shingle style architecture. Cottages are set on 50-foot lots (15 m) along gently curving streets running along the natural terraces. In the center of the community is The Campus (originally Tabernacle Park). Many of the larger communal structures are located here, including the original 1877 preaching stand, as well an 1880 book store and multiple educational buildings constructed around 1890.
Bay View is an unincorporated resort community and census designated place (CDP) in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located in Bear Creek Township, Emmet County on Little Traverse Bay and abuts the east side of the city of Petoskey along U.S. Highway 31. The ZIP code is 49770 and the FIPS place code is 06260. It was originally formed as part of the Methodist Camp Meeting movement and later adapted to the precepts of the Chautauqua movement. As of the 2010 census the population of the CDP was 133.

I Found the BEST SPOT!! Incredible Pike Fishing
Floating an unfamiliar river for some super aggressive pike. I searched around for a while, and then found one of the best pike holes I've fished in a while!
Fly rod: 9' 8wt Orvis Clearwater rod (4 piece)
Reel: Waterworks‑Lamson Liquid Fly Reel 3.5
Line: 8wt scientific anglers fly line, 20lb tapered flouro leader with a 20lb RIO wire tippet.
Rod/reel setup:
-Quantum Octane 6'6 medium heavy action rod with an Abu Garcia silver max and 30lb braided line, connected to a 27lb 9 steel leader.
***The rod and reel I was using is a cheap setup, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. I only use it at the river in case something happens, I'd rather break that than an expensive rod/reel.

Covert Twp. being recognized for early role in school integration
COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A tiny West Michigan town is shining in the national spotlight today, recognized for it's role in shaping history.
The Covert community was so progressive back in the mid-1800's, that the decisions they were making when it comes to education weren't even legal.
They were integrating children in schools from the very beginning.
For Betty Colombel, her family history in Covert goes back to the very beginning.
They always lived here; my grandmother was born here, my mother was born here, she said.
It's decisions made by Betty's family and others in the mid-1800's that have this small West Michigan town taking center stage across the country.
For it to have been such a diverse community, even back in the 1800's when it wasn't even heard of, it's always been a very inclusive town, said Cathy Green, President of the Covert Historical Museum.
For the last three years, the museum has been working closely with the Smithsonian, with artifacts and stories of the history of this town, now on display in Washington, D.C.
We gave a globe that was right across the street from the first schoolhouse, some pictures, and some books, Green said.
From the very beginning, there was no difference between black and white. Schools integrated from the start.
Actually it was illegal, I think I tell people tell them that come to visit that Covert had the don't ask don't tell policy before the military, because the state didn't ask when they sent the census records in what the race was. They just listed the age and gender of the children. So they assumed all were white, said Covert Historical Museum Treasurer LaDonna Golden.
While some say it was illegal, others say it was just leaving some information out. It was a bold choice that's paying off hundreds of years later.
It's always been natural to me because it's what i grew up with,Colombel said. I can't imagine not being in the type of school system I was in.
People back then and now had a clear understanding that if we are going to survive we all have to work together, Golden said.
Golden says we could use of reminder of in our world today. One this group is eager to see on display in the nations capitol.
I think I'll probably get teary eyed. Just at the awesomeness of it. This is the community I grew up in, and look where we are now, Golden said.
The ladies we spoke with Monday tell us they're in the early stages of organizing a charter bus trip to D.C. in the spring, so that anyone from the West Michigan area can see this display for themselves.
Of course, you can visit here on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 1 to 4 p.m., free of charge.

DETROIT - UNDERGROUND RAILWAY - SECOND BAPTIST CHURCH
The most amazing discovery I made on the edge of Greektown in downtown Detroit was Second Baptist Church. Because I have a strong interest in black history and negro spiritual music this church immediately piqued my interest. The historical plaque said it was the oldest black congregation in Michigan. Further investigation revealed that the church was a STATION in the famous UNDERGROUND RAILWAY that was a conduit for escaping slaves to reach Canada among other places. Proximity to the Detroit River made this station the last stop before Canada extremely important.
Fox News Link:
The Underground Railroad was a network of secret routes and safe houses established in the United States during the early to mid-19th century, and used by African-American slaves to escape into free states, Canada and Nova Scotia with the aid of abolitionists and allies who were sympathetic to their cause. The term is also applied to the abolitionists, both black and white, free and enslaved, who aided the fugitives. Various other routes led to Mexico or overseas. An earlier escape route running south toward Florida, then a Spanish possession (except 1763–83), existed from the late 17th century until Florida became a United States territory in 1821 (ending the safe haven for escaped slaves was the main reason Florida changed nationality). However, the network now generally known as the Underground Railroad was formed in the late 1700s, and it ran north to the free states and Canada, and reached its height between 1850 and 1860.[6] One estimate suggests that by 1850, 100,000 slaves had escaped via the Railroad.
The Second Baptist Church, located at 441 Monroe Street within Greektown in Detroit, Michigan, is the oldest African-American church in the Midwestern United States. It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1974 listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.
The church was organized in March 1836 by 13 former slaves who left the First Baptist Church due to discrimination.[4] Second Baptist was Detroit's seventh major church.[3] With the Detroit River and Canada's border only a thousand yards away, the Second Baptist Church quickly undertook the mission of helping free slaves and constructed a room under the sanctuary where escaping slaves stayed until they could continue their journey.[5] Church leaders assisted in creating the Amherstburg Baptist Association and the Canadian Anti-Slavery Baptist Association, each of which were abolitionist groups in Canada.[4] From its founding until the end of the Civil War, the church served as a station on the Underground Railroad, hosting some 5,000 slaves before their eventual departure to Canada.[3]
Second Baptist also opened the city's first school for black children in 1839,[3] and in 1843 and 1865 hosted a State Convention of Colored Citizens to petition the Michigan government for Negro Suffrage.[4] Ralph Bunche, who later became the first African-American to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, was baptized in the church. Second Baptist was instrumental in the formation of over 30 other African-American churches.
the Senior Pastor of Second Baptist Church is Reverend Dr. Kevin Turman earned his B.A. in government from Harvard College. He also holds a master's degree in divinity from Yale University and a doctorate in ministry from the United Theological Seminary. Turman is the senior pastor for the Second Baptist Church of Detroit. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Spirituals (or Negro spirituals are generally Christian songs that were created by African Americans.[3] Spirituals were originally an oral tradition that imparted Christian values while also describing the hardships of slavery.[4] Although spirituals were originally unaccompanied monophonic (unison) songs, they are best known today in harmonized choral arrangements. This historic group of uniquely American songs is now recognized as a distinct genre of music.
The term spiritual is derived from spiritual song, from the King James Bible's translation of Ephesians 5:19, which says, Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.[6] Slave Songs of the United States, the first major collection of negro spirituals, was published in 1867.
Musicologist George Pullen Jackson extended the term spiritual to a wider range of folk hymnody, as in his 1938 book, White Spirituals in the Southern Uplands, but this does not appear to have been widespread usage previously. The term, however, has often been broadened to include subsequent arrangements into more standard European-American hymnodic styles, and to include post-emancipation songs with stylistic similarities to the original African American spirituals.
Lake Okeechobee a true florida bass fishing paradise
Okeechobee is a Seminole Indian word meaning “great water cannot see other side”. True to its name, Lake Okeechobee is 748 square miles in size. It is the greatest provider of drinking water for south Florida, averaging 13-19 feet in depth.
Lake Okeechobee is renowned internationally for its fishing for bass and other species. It is located northeast of Naples, less than 2 hours away, and is heavily ringed with tackle shops, marinas, motels, restaurants, etc. You can find rental boats, gears and lodging to make your bass fishing trip more convenient and comfortable.
Lake Okeechobee also means ‘big water’ to the Seminole Indians, it is the second largest freshwater lake in the United States after Lake Michigan and its fishing reputation matches its size. Much of the lake’s 730 square miles or 450,000 acres are hidden from view by dyke, levee, or trees which screen the shore.
Lake Okeechobee has a 150 mile circumference and its invisible opposite shore is more than 30 miles away. The best fishing and more than half of the action, takes place along the lake’s western shore where Calhoun’s Guide Service is based.
Lake Okeechobee comprises a 730 square-mile area in Glades, Okeechobee, Martin, Palm Beach, and Hendry Counties its average depth is 9 feet with a maximum depth of 17 feet. Recharge comes from precipitation and southward flow of water from the Kissimmee River. Historically, hydro pattern flowed southward over millions of acres.
Lake Okeechobee offers all types of waterway structures to fish – from open water to narrow canals surrounded by hundreds of different vegetations and grasses.
Lake Okeechobee is located in central southern Florida, north of the Everglades and south of Orlando. Lake Okeechobee links the Atlantic and Gulf sides of Florida via the Port Mayaca Lock on the east side of the lake and the Moore Haven Lock on the lake’s western side.
Drainage canals lower the lake and drain adjacent lands for farming. Agricultural activities around the Lake Okeechobee area include cattle ranching, dairy farming, and crop production of sugarcane, winter vegetables, citrus, sod, sweet corn and rice.
Lake Okeechobee fishing is well-known not only throughout the U.S. but the whole world. Haw hunter guide service has clients who come from all over the world, including Japan and Europe, just to fish Lake Okeechobee with the best of them.
The lake is approximately 37 miles long by 30 miles wide, with an average depth of only 10 feet. To fishermen nationwide, it’s renowned for the number of bass it contains per acre and that it also produces more bass over 7 pounds than any lake in Florida and the United States.
Lake Okeechobee, located in Central Florida, is the most famous big bass fishing lake in the country. For many years, Lake Okeechobee has produced the best largemouth bass, blue gill and speck fishing in the world.
Hoover Dike was constructed along the southern regions of Lake Okeechobee to prevent flooding while also yielding year-round crop production. Tory mucks of the region contain 50 per cent or more mineral matter by weight and have considerably more native fertility than saw grass mucks, which were formed under logographic conditions. The 1950s was a period of technological ambition and construction, a system of canals, dikes, and pumping stations were installed to distribute water to the Everglades Agricultural Areas from Lake Okeechobee
Lake Okeechobee provides trips and tours all conducted by highly trained and efficient guides. They know the movement of the fish and their feeding patterns which gives you the best advantage over the fish and landing the lanker of a lifetime. Their cordial manner and willingness to help you enjoy your day on the water is genuine. Whether you want to book a corporate trip, take a youngster fishing for the first time, or have special needs, they there to help.
Fishing at Lake Okeechobee for Bass from late fall to early spring is when Crappie and Bass Fishing at Lake Okeechobee is at its best. Success comes when using large wild shiners or artificial lures of all types. If you want to target a true monster size bass, fishing at Lake Okeechobee is certainly the way to go.

Rivian - Electric Adventure Vehicle | Fully Charged
Automotive startups always need to be viewed with a little caution, but as Jonny Smith discovers, Rivian have presented a very convincing launch. A large SUV and pick up truck at the LA motor show. Most impressive.

What Was It Like to Travel While Black During Jim Crow? | Op-Docs
The Green Book was a critical guide for African-Americans struggling to travel safely in the Jim Crow era. This 360 degree video explores its complicated legacy.
This film offers a revealing view of the Green Book era as told through Ben’s Chili Bowl, a black-owned restaurant in Washington, and reminds us that the humiliations heaped upon African-Americans during that time period.
Sandra Butler-Truesdale, born in the capital in the 1930s, references an often-forgotten trauma — and one of the conceptual underpinnings of the Jim Crow era — when she recalls that Negroes who shopped in major stores were not allowed to try on clothing before they bought it. Store owners at the time offered a variety of racist rationales, including that Negroes were insufficiently clean. At bottom, the practice reflected the irrational belief that anything coming in contact with African-American skin — including clothing, silverware or bed linens — was contaminated by blackness, rendering it unfit for use by whites.

IMPORTANT DYING BIRDS - MEMORY LOSS
There was a tale of 2 million birds falling from the sky in Russia back in 2007, but I haven't been able to verify this story, except for a YouTube video. Can't believe everything you see on the Internet!
If I had to guess, I'd say this looks like another bird slaughter, via poison, but it seems more wide spread this time. Perhaps the government doesn't want to get the animal rights loonies all in an uproar?
Whether they are trying to prevent the spread of disease, protect a farmer, or population control, this certainly looks like man had a hand in this one. Let's just be glad they weren't geese!
What say you?
scientists said celebratory fireworks likely sent thousands of discombobulated blackbirds into such a tizzy that they crashed into homes, cars and each other before plummeting to their deaths. The problem I have with that theory is this: what about the 500 in Louisiana? What about the bird drops in Kentucky? Did it take longer for those birds to have heart attacks from fireworks? Why don't we see these mass deaths every Fourth of July somewhere in the country?
