The Blackhawk Automotive Museum (founded 1988) is a museum in Danville, California, best known for its significant collection of classic, rare and unique automobiles. The Museum is a not for profit 501(c)3 private operating foundation.
The museum houses about ninety classic cars. It also houses a display showcasing the work of the Wheelchair Foundation. The facility is located within the Blackhawk Plaza shopping center, and is an affiliate through the Smithsonian Affiliations program.
Founded by a partnership between benefactor Ken Behring and Don Williams that began in 1982, the internationally renowned Blackhawk Automotive Museum first opened its doors in August of 1988. The Museum, a not for profit 501(c)3 private operating foundation, was established to ensure that significant automotive treasures would be exhibited for public enjoyment and educational enrichment.
One of the museum's most unusual features is a 1924 Hispano-Suiza H6C with a body paneled with tulipwood. Over the years, the museum has also housed a 1962 John F. Kennedy limousine and a Chinese Hongqi, the first Chinese made automobile to be imported to the United States.
Several changing exhibitions, representative of topics in transportation, culture and science as they relate to our society have been hosted in the various galleries and reception areas throughout the Museum. Current exhibitions include selections of American Jukeboxes from the golden age of the juke box and a display of antique gas station pumps. Since 2000 the Blackhawk Automotive Museum has been an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and together they have partnered to bring a variety of cultural exhibitions, historical artifacts and significant automobiles from one coast to the other.

I had a chance to drop by Danville last weekend and managed to take a quick shot of the vast openness of beautiful California.

Danville California – The Heart of The San Ramon Valley
Most people would agree that Danville California is the most appealing community in the East Bay. It’s historic downtown draws people from throughout the area and the shops, restaurants, art galleries and more combine to create an ambiance that is unique in the San Ramon Valley. There are dining options at all levels from fast food to upscale restaurants like the Peasant and the Pear and Incontro. Its character and convenient location make it the perfect place to work, live, and play.
If you are thinking of buying a home in Danville, you will find a wide variety of home styles at all price points from 1 bedroom condominiums to large country estates. To put Danville real estate prices into perspective, homes here are more affordable than those in Diablo or Alamo, but generally more expensive than similar properties in Walnut Creek or the communities at the North and South ends of the San Ramon Valley.
Single family detached homes start around $750,000 but you can easily spend $3 million dollars or more.
The older residential part of Danville is on the West side, close to the picturesque downtown. Here can be found some of the most expensive single family homes for sale in Danville, many of them having been improved and remodeled to an exceptionally high standard. This area is highly sought after.
Moving to the East along Sycamore Valley Road, the homes were built more recently. The further East, the more recent the home construction. Toll Brothers Alamo Creek is a prime example.

Danville was incorporated in 1982 and covers around 18 square miles with a population of approximately 45,000.
Significant redevelopment has taken place in recent times with the establishment of numerous new restaurants and other businesses yet despite all this, Danville manages to maintain its small-town atmosphere and its outstanding quality of life.
Residents are never short of something interesting to occupy their time. There are natural creeks, hiking and biking trails, and plenty of dedicated open space. Arts and culture are well supported at the Village Theatre and Art Gallery, The Museum of the San Ramon Valley and the Tao House—home to Nobel Prize winning playwright Eugene O'Neill.
Danville also has a strong sense of community. There are numerous events throughout the year including a weekly Farmer's Market, street fairs, concerts in the park and holiday celebrations. All this, combined with the top rated schools and variety of housing at all levels add to the town's appeal.

Here is footage of the former train depot in Danville, CA.
The Southern Pacific Train Depot was built in 1891 on land donated by John Hartz as Standard Station No.22 which was erected when the Martinez line was extended south to San Ramon. The first train came on June 7, 1891. Passenger service ended in 1934. The Southern Pacific trains continued to pass through town with freight until 1978 when the line was abandoned. The building was sold in 1951 for the Danville Supply and Feed store. In June 1996, it was purchased and moved 100 yards. It now houses the Museum of the San Ramon Valley and lies along the Iron Horse Regional Trail. Shots are around this old classic depot. Enjoy!! Shot 1/5/14

I have known Rico since I was about 10 years old, so when he asked me to potentially capture his wedding day with Malisa, I was more than excited!
Throughout the day, I was able to realize just how special of a connection that they had with one another. It was very obvious from the start that their story had started long before their wedding day.

Smithsonian Affiliate History - Blackhawk Museum
The Blackhawk Museum has been a proud Smithsonian Affiliate since 2000. Through the Affiliate program, the Smithsonian has shared collections, exhibitions, and research expertise with the museum and it's visitors. Over the years we have enjoyed many special exhibitions, including the Buffalo Bill Cody exhibit currently on loan from the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.
