Travel: The Blood Compact Shrine (Sandugo) in Tagbilaran City
Sandugo, a blood compact performed between the Spanish explorer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Datu SIkatuna, chieftain of Bohol on March 16, 1565. To symbolize the friendship with the Spaniards according to tribal tradition. The blood compact is considered as the first treaty of friendship between the Spaniards and the Filipinos. Sandugo is a visayan word which means one blood, although it can be interpreted into Tagalog language Isang Dugo.

Datu Sikatuna, a native chieftain, forged a Blood Compact with Don Miguel Lopez de Legazpi representing the King of Spain, for the purpose of fostering friendly relations between the countries.This historical event happened on March 16, 1565 is commemorated every year in Bohol as the Sandugo Festival in July.
