Georgia is a state located in the southeastern United States. It was established in 1732, the last of the original Thirteen Colonies. Named after King George II of Great Britain, Georgia was the fourth state to ratify the United States Constitution, on January 2, 1788. It declared its secession from the Union on January 19, 1861, and was one of the original seven Confederate states.
It was the last state to be restored to the Union, on July 15, 1870. Georgia is the 24th most extensive and the 8th most populous of the 50 United States. From 2007 to 2008, 14 of Georgia's counties ranked among the nation's 100 fastest-growing, second only to Texas. Georgia is known as the Peach State and the Empire State of the South. Atlanta is the state's capital and its most populous city.
Georgia is bordered on the south by Florida; on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and South Carolina; on the west by Alabama; and on the north by Tennessee and North Carolina. The northern part of the state is in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a mountain range in the Appalachian Mountain system. The central Piedmont extends from the foothills to the fall line, where the rivers cascade down in elevation to the continental coastal plain of the southern part of the state.
The highest point in Georgia is Brasstown Bald, 4,784 feet (1,458 m); the lowest point is the Atlantic Ocean. Georgia is the most extensive state east of the Mississippi River in terms of land area, although it is the fourth most extensive (after Michigan, Florida, and Wisconsin) in total area, including expanses of water that are part of state territory.
History
Before settlement by Europeans, Georgia was inhabited by the mound building cultures. The British colony of Georgia was founded by James Oglethorpe on February 12, 1733 (February 1, 1732 O.S.). The colony was administered by the Trustees for the Establishment of the Colony of Georgia in America under a charter issued by (and named for) King George II.
The Trustees implemented an elaborate plan for the colony's settlement, known as the Oglethorpe Plan, which envisioned an agrarian society of yeoman farmers and prohibited slavery. In 1742 the colony was invaded by the Spanish during the War of Jenkins' Ear. In 1752, after the government failed to renew subsidies that had helped support the colony, the Trustees turned over control to the crown. Georgia became a crown colony, with a governor appointed by the king.
Province of Georgia was one of the Thirteen Colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution by signing the 1776 Declaration of Independence. After the war, Georgia became the fourth state of the Union by ratifying the Constitution on January 2, 1788.
In 1829, gold was discovered in the North Georgia mountains, which led to the Georgia Gold Rush and an established federal mint in Dahlonega, which continued its operation until 1861. The subsequent influx of white settlers put pressure on the government to take land from the Cherokee Nation. In 1830, President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act into law, sending many eastern Native American nations to reservations in present-day Oklahoma, including all of Georgia's tribes.
Despite the Supreme Court's ruling in Worcester v. Georgia that states were not permitted to redraw the Indian boundaries, President Jackson and the state of Georgia ignored the ruling. In 1838, his successor, Martin Van Buren, dispatched federal troops to gather the Cherokee and deport them west of the Mississippi. This forced relocation, known as the Trail of Tears, led to the death of over 4,000 Cherokees.
In early 1861, Georgia joined the Confederacy and became a major theater of the Civil War. Major battles took place at Chickamauga, Kennesaw Mountain, and Atlanta. In December 1864, a large swath of the state from Atlanta to Savannah was destroyed during General William Tecumseh Sherman's March to the Sea. 18,253 Georgian soldiers died in service, roughly 1 of every 5 who served. In 1870, following reconstruction, Georgia became the last Confederate state restored to the Union.
REEL MEDICINE -- Waterfront cabin rental on the banks of Big Creek
REEL MEDICINE is just what the doctor ordered for a get away from the hectic lives we all live. Reel Medicine is a very private and mostly secluded Blue Ridge cabin rental that sits just feet away from the banks of rushing Big Creek. As you get to the property you will notice the coziness that meets you as you cross the beautiful Old Covered Bridge. The cabin is tucked under a great canopy of large hemlock, pine, and soaring hardwoods giving you the fell of the way a real log cabin should feel.
On your way to Reel Medicine, you will pass Lake Blue Ridge, for boating and fishing, drive along the upper Toccoa River, for trout fishing (in the trout capital of Georgia) and tubing, and Shallowford Bridge, which is a staple in the community that is known for having great adventure in the area. There is Shallowford Bridge tube rentals and Toccoa Valley Campground for tubing, both within 5-7 minutes from the cabin. You will also pass the famed Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, great for outdoor dining on the banks of the Toccoa River. Also, close by the cabin is the Benton McKaye hiking trail, the largest spur of The Appalachian Trail, Toccoa River Swinging Bridge, and several waterfall hiking trails, including Sea Creek Falls, Fall Branch Falls, and Amicalola Falls (a 729 foot tall waterfall). This cabin is in the Aska Adventure Area and is right in the middle of all of the action of outdoor fun.
The cabin itself is very inviting once you walk thru the doors. Upon entering you will see the vaulted ceilings in the living room and dining room, providing an expansive feel, a very warm and welcoming living area, with a floor to ceiling rock real wood burning fireplace, and comfortable living room furniture. To the right you will find an eight person dining table and a lovely sitting area, perfect for book reading and having some alone time while taking in the view of the back yard. There are two bedrooms on the main floor and one bath, one bedroom with a queen bed and the other has some options. You can choose to have a king bed or two twin XL beds, these beds are specifically designed for this, so the king will be comfortable. On the main floor you will also find one full bath and a laundry room with full size front load washer and dryer. Also, on the main floor, is a updated and fully stocked kitchen, with stainless appliances and all the comforts of home. All of the TV's in the house are High Def TV's, including the one in the living room which also has a DVD library, a game library, and WIFI.
Upstairs is the complete master suite. There is a king size bed, a full bath, walk in cedar lined closet, and cozy sitting area. The master suite is a large suite, and the bed is pushed all the way to the far wall, the front part of the master suite overlooks the living area below.
Outside.......well it is as close to perfect nature as you can get. Almost the entire property is flat, and has easy access to the cool waters of Big Creek. There is a beautiful fire pit with chairs and stumps to sit on. Also, there is a hammock to rest and enjoy the beautiful sounds of the rushing creek. The back yard also has its very own walking trail, even with a foot bridge, and it is even lit for night time strolls. Across the creek is a true amenity that helps with privacy, there is a beautiful small pasture and the base of a mountain to look at, but absolutely no houses in sight across the creek, making for extreme privacy. One last amenity that everyone wants is the hot tub. There is a hot tub on the screened in porch for your enjoyment. Also, on the screened in porch, there is a table and chairs, rocking chairs, and plenty of room if the kids wanted to sleep out side.
The Creek - Big Creek is a native trout stream, and is one of the great trout habitat's in all of North Georgia. The trout flourish in the cool and oxygen rich waters. Fly fishing is the only allowable style of fishing in this small stream, and it can be challenging, due to so many trees, but can be very rewarding. This is a catch and release stream only in this area, as the home owner's takes the little extra amenity on their own and they stock the stream with rainbow trout. So, please enjoy your time, while clearing your head in this beautiful piece of the Blue Ridge Mountain fresh water.
So come and enjoy the refreshing sights, sounds, and feeling of REEL MEDICINE, it's just what the doctor ordered!

Click here for an amazing video tour of this gorgeous property!
Please note: Fishing is highly regulated in our community. It is imperative that all guests respect the community guidelines. 1) All anglers must have a valid Georgia fishing license; and 2) Catch & release with fly rods only
We strive to maintain a healthy trout population. The property owners along this section of Mountaintown Creek are committed to preserving and protecting the trout contained in these waters which are stocked twice a year.
Therefore, fishing is limited to fly rods with trout flies having single, barb less hooks. Spinning rods and lures with treble hooks are prohibited. Fishing with corn, worms, or other bait products, including artificial lures, is not allowed. These bait products and barbed hooks make it impossible to release the fish without harming them. Fish caught should be handled minimally, returning them to the water as quickly and gently as possible.

Kennesaw Mountain to Atlanta Georgia - HD Zoom - 2013
Kennesaw Mountain to Atlanta Georgia - HD Zoom - 2013
Kennesaw Mountain is a high-running ridge between Marietta and Kennesaw, Georgia in the United States with a summit elevation of 1,808 feet (551 m). It is the highest point in the core (urban and suburban) metro Atlanta area, and fifth after further-north exurban counties are considered. The local terrain averages roughly 1,000 feet (300 m) AMSL.
The mountain actually has two summits: Big Kennesaw, where the modern-day parking area and scenic overlook are located. Little Kennesaw Mountain, where several light hiking trails and nature areas connect the mountains to the rest of the park

Driving Downtown - Chattanooga - USA
Driving Downtown - Chattanooga Tennessee USA - Season 1 Episode 8.
Starting Point: John Ross Bridge
Highlights include Market St - Broad St - Chestnut St - MLK Blvd - 7th St - 6th St - 5th St - 4th St - 3rd St - Aquarium Way - Walnut St - Cherry St - Riverfront Parkway.
Chattanooga is the fourth-largest city in the U.S. state of Tennessee, with a population of 167,674 as of the 2010 census, and an estimated population of 171,279 in 2012.[7] The city, which has a downtown elevation of approximately 680 feet (210 m), lies at the transition between the ridge-and-valley portion of the Appalachian Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau. The city is therefore surrounded by various mountains and ridges. The official nickname for Chattanooga is the Scenic City, being reinforced by the city's growing national reputation as a haven for numerous outdoor activities. Several unofficial nicknames include River City, Chatt, Nooga, Chattown, and Gig City, demonstrating Chattanooga's claims that it has the fastest internet service in the Western Hemisphere.[8][9]
Chattanooga is internationally known for the 1941 song, the world's first gold record, Chattanooga Choo Choo, by Glenn Miller and his orchestra.
Chattanooga is home to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) and Chattanooga State Community College.
Attractions
Chattanooga touts many attractions, including the Tennessee Aquarium, caverns, and new waterfront attractions along and across the Tennessee River. In the downtown area is the Chattanooga Choo Choo Hotel, housed in the renovated Terminal Station and exhibiting the largest HO model train layout in the United States. Also downtown are the Creative Discovery Museum, a hands-on children's museum dedicated to science, art, and music; an IMAX 3D Theatre, and the newly expanded Hunter Museum of American Art. The Tennessee Riverwalk, an approximately 13-mile (21 km) long trail running alongside the river, is another attraction for both tourists and residents alike.
Across the river from downtown is the North Shore district, roughly bounded by the Olgiati Bridge to the west and Veterans Bridge to the east. The newly renovated area draws locals and tourists to locally owned independent boutique stores and restaurants, plus attractions along the Chattanooga Riverpark system, including Coolidge Park and Renaissance Park.[118][119]
The Chattanooga Zoo at Warner Park is located a short distance from the downtown area.
Parks and natural scenic areas provide other attractions. The red-and-black painted See Rock City barns along highways in the Southeast are remnants of a now-classic Americana tourism campaign to attract visitors to the Rock City tourist attraction in nearby Lookout Mountain, Georgia. The mountain is also the site of Ruby Falls and Craven's House.[121] The Lookout Mountain Incline Railway is a steep funicular railway that rises from the St. Elmo Historic District to the top of the mountain, where passengers can visit the National Park Service's Point Park and the Battles for Chattanooga Museum.[122] Formerly known as Confederama, the museum includes a diorama that details the Battle of Chattanooga. From the military park, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Moccasin Bend and the Chattanooga skyline from the mountain's famous point or from vantage points along the well-marked trail system.[123]
Near Chattanooga, the Raccoon Mountain Reservoir, Raccoon Mountain Caverns, and Reflection Riding Arboretum and Botanical Garden boast a number of outdoor and family fun opportunities. Other arboretums include Bonny Oaks Arboretum, Cherokee Arboretum at Audubon Acres, and Cherokee Trail Arboretum. The Ocoee River, host to a number of events at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, features rafting, kayaking, camping, and hiking. Just outside Chattanooga is the Lake Winnepesaukah amusement park. The Cumberland Trail begins in Signal Mountain, just outside of Chattanooga.
Festivals and events
Chattanooga hosts the well-known Riverbend Festival, an annual nine-day music festival held in June in the downtown area. One of the most popular events is the Bessie Smith Strut, a one-night showcase of blues and jazz music named for the city's most noted blues singer. The annual Southern Brewer's Festival and the River Roast festival celebrate such traditional Southern staples as beer and barbecue.
New events, such as GoFest!, the Between the Bridges wakeboard competition, Heritage Festival, and Talespin, complement well-established events, such as Riverbend and the Southern Brewer's Festival, and attract their own audiences.[124][125] Back Row Films is a city-wide celebration of film co-sponsored by the Hunter Museum of American Art, the Arts & Education Council, and UTC.[126]

Add to that, the area retains its Southern charm and easy going lifestyle. Within an hour drive are over two million acres of public lands (National and State parks). In fact, the highest waterfall east of the Mississippi, Whitewater Falls, is
located only twenty minutes away. Hikers have a seemingly unending trail system with varied degrees of challenge. And “geocaching” is a favorite “sport”. Lake Keowee, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is one of only two blue water lakes in SC. Clean, clear, 22 miles long with 350 miles of

The University reaches out to the community with an array of cultural activities including an ever expanding continuing
education program.(OLLI-Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) Enjoy theater? Concerts? Stroll next to the “Reedy River” waterfalls as you enjoy the Historic “West End” and it’s art studios, boutique shops and fine dining. Travel is made easy as your home is only one hour from Greenville Spartanburg airport or two hours from Atlanta’s Hartsfield airport. Need to put your feet in the sand? Charleston, SC and the Atlantic is only four ½ hours via interstate. Tired of snow? Though a change of seasons is enjoyable, snow is a rarity and when it comes, it disappears in a day or two.
