The Kentucky Railway Museum Heritage Highball 2019
We chased C&O 2716 from the Kentucky Railway Museum in New Haven to Lebanon Junction. This is the first leg of 2716s journey to Ravenna KY for restoration.
Information From:
Chasing the Kentucky Steam Heritage Highball Part 1 - New Haven to Frankfort, KY - 7/26/2019
On Friday, July 26, 2019, I chased the Kentucky Steam Heritage Corporation's Heritage Highball trip from New Haven to Frankfort, KY via Louisville. CSX allowed Clinchfield F7a #800 to pull the famous C&O 2716 to it's restoration site in Ravenna, KY.
They ran it as part excursion from New Haven to Boston, then split the consist. The CRR 800 and the C&O 2716 continued north. They did some photo ops at Lebanon Junction, under the former L&N coaling tower on the CSX mainline, for CSX corporate photographers and Trains Magazine. Then they headed north for Louisville.
At CSX's Osborn Yard in Louisville, RJ Corman power was put in the lead for the trip to Frankfort, where it spent the night on public display. I chased the consist to Frankfort and called it a night.
Chasing this special move from Lexington to Ravenna, KY is coming soon on my channel. Enjoy the video!

Chasing the Kentucky Steam Heritage Highball Event
My videos of the Heritage Highball's run across Northeastern Kentucky
Chasing the Kentucky Steam Heritage Highball Part 2 - Lexington to Ravenna, KY - 7/28/2019
On July 28, 2019, I chased the Kentucky Steam Heritage Corporation's Heritage Highball trip from Lexington to Ravenna, KY. CSX allowed Clinchfield F7a #800 to pull the famous C&O 2716 to it's restoration site in Ravenna, KY.
They moved it from Frankfort to Lexington, KY on July 27th.
On July 28th, Clinchfield 800 lead the rest of the trip on RJ Corman rails from Lexington to Winchester, then on CSX rails from Winchester to Ravenna. Enjoy the video!
Heritage Highball | Chasing Clinchfield 800 and C&O 2716 across the Bluegrass State Part 2
The second part of the Heritage Highball series consists of the rest of the chase on 7/27/19 and 7/28/19. On July 27th, after spending the night in Frankfort, 2716 departed early in the morning to head for Midway where it would sit on display for a few hours before heading to Lexington for another festival, and where it would spend the night. In Midway there was music, model trains, outdoor activities, and more. I started out the chase in Duckers Station Ky, just south of Frankfort and concluded in Lexington. The next day, we chased 2716 with 800 back on point from Lexington to its grand arrival in Ravenna, where it will eventually be restored for operation. Thanks for watching!

Sergeant Reckless | Kentucky Life | KET
A Marine lieutenant purchased a chestnut Mongolian mare from a Korean boy at the Seoul Race Track in 1952 for use as a pack horse. So began the stellar military career of Sergeant Reckless, who won the hearts of the soldiers with her brave and steadfast service under fire.
In this excerpt from the upcoming KET documentary In Their Own Words: Kentucky Veterans of the Korean War, Paul Hammersley, a Korean War veteran from Bowling Green, talks about his experience serving with the horse.
The Marines used Sergeant Reckless to carry heavy ammunition to the front lines. During the Battle of Outpost Vegas in March 1953, she repeatedly crossed no man's land, alone and unled, climbing steep mountain trails while under heavy fire. After the ammunition was unloaded, she then carried wounded soldiers down the mountains to safety.
Wounded twice herself, Sergeant Reckless received two Purple Hearts as well as other awards for her service. A statue at the National Museum of the Marine Corps and Heritage Center in Triangle, Virginia, honors her remarkable valor.

Chesapeake & Ohio 2716: A Bluegrass Odyssey (with Clinchfield 800)
Chesapeake & Ohio 2716 received a new lease on life in early 2016 with the beginning of a lease from her owners, the Kentucky Railway Museum, to the newly-formed Kentucky Steam Heritage Corporation. After over three years of tireless effort to acquire a shop and to build strong relationships with CSX and other area businesses, the locomotive was finally moved to her new home in Ravenna, Kentucky over three days in late July 2019. Leading the move was Clinchfield diesel number 800, repeating a journey made 40 years ago when the 800 lead 2716 from the KRM to a restoration by the Clinchfield that was cancelled when they ended steam excursion service. After several years of storage on the Clinchfield, she was leased by the Southern for use in their steam program, and she steamed for the first time in preservation in 1981. 2716 was a smash-hit on the Southern, and her combination of speed, power, and good looks made her a favorite on excursions. Unfortunately her renaissance would be brief, as she was sidelined by firebox issues in early 1982. With the formation of Norfolk Southern and the addition of 611 to the program the 2716 was deemed surplus and sat in the shop until 1995. She would briefly run again in 1996 for the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society, who repaired the firebox damage and ran a single weekend of excursions before the FRA required boiler work be done. With FWRHS opting to focus their attention on the Nickel Plate 765, the 2716 was once again placed into storage before being returned to KRM in 2001, having only operated for a scant few months of the 22 years she was away. 2716 would remain on static display at the museum's New Haven, Kentucky site until July 26, 2019 when she and the 800 once again began a journey towards restoration. This trek would take the locomotive across the Bluegrass region through Louisville and Lexington, traversing the rails of both CSX and RJ Corman. I chased the beginning and ending of the journey, from the museum in New Haven to the connection with the CSX main at Lebanon Junction and then the final day from RJ Corman rails in Lexington onto the former L&N EK line to Ravenna. At towns all along the route people came out to see the procession come through, and even some local fire departments joined in by spraying the train it passed by. In the twin towns of Irvine and Ravenna, nearly the entire community was present to welcome 2716 to her new home. Overall the move seems to have been a massive success for all involved, and I wish KSHCO the best. Here's hoping they can break the Kanawha's curse and have her running for years to come in the hills of Eastern Kentucky.
Kentucky Steam Volunteers Work to Finish Track Installation
Preceding the Heritage Highball Excursion and deadhead to Ravenna this weekend over CSX and R. J. Corman Railroad Group rails, the hardworking volunteers of Kentucky Steam are working relentlessly to complete the yard lead trackage to the shop building at the new Kentucky Rail Heritage Center. The track, donated by East Kentucky Power Cooperative, was installed by RJ Corman earlier in July. Volunteers hailing from Nevada, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky pitched in to help complete the nearly 1,200ft segment of track from the tail of the wye to the shop complex where C&O 2716 will eventually be restored back to steam operation.
With the test run over The Kentucky Railway Museum rail line being successful earlier in the week, Kentucky Steam will continue to prepare for the Heritage Highball Excursion this coming weekend (July 26-28). Jesse James in Kentucky | Kentucky Life | KET
Russellville was recovering from the Civil War when an old Confederate guerrilla gang from Missouri that was up to no good made its way to town one day in 1868. Among the men, many believe, was the infamous Jesse James (1847-1882).
The gang robbed the Nimrod Long Banking Co. of Russellville on March 20, 1868. The bank president, Mr. Long himself, was shot and wounded. Jesse James later denied being there. However, it is certain that Jesse knew Kentucky well. His father, a minister, was born in Logan County, and his aunt lived in Adairville, providing him a convenient Kentucky hideout.
Jesse's gang hit a Kentucky bank again on April 29, 1872, when they robbed the Deposit Bank of Columbia, and killed an unarmed cashier. On Sept. 3, 1880, they held up a stagecoach on the road from Mammoth Cave to Cave City.
The years went by in a blur of bank and train robberies as the outlaw's legend grew. It all ended for Jesse James in 1882, when he was shot in the back of the head in his own home in St. Joseph, Missouri, by a trusted ally who wanted to collect bounty money.
The Russellville bank robbery is re-enacted every year at the Logan County Tobacco and Heritage Festival. The Adairville home where Jesse hid out with his aunt's family still stands today.

Heritage Highball 2019: C&O 2716's Move to Restoration! with Clinchfield 800
On the weekend of July 26-28, 2019, The Kentucky Steam Heritage Corp (KSHCO) partnered with CSX Transportation (CSXT), RJ Corman Railroad Group (RJC), & the Southern Appalachia Railway Museum (SARM) to move Chesapeake & Ohio 2-8-4 Kanawha locomotive 2716 from the Kentucky Railway Museum to their shops in Ravenna, KY. The historic move would be called the Heritage Highball. Making several stops along the route, all the companies worked closely together to make sure the move went off without a problem. JRP was honored to get to witness this historic move. We hope you enjoy the video.
Huge thanks to Eric Hendrickson of CSX Transportation and the volunteers of the Kentucky Steam Heritage Corporation & Southern Appalachia Railway Museum.
