Cruising to FRANCE (You Must Visit Bordeaux)
On our final stop here on our cruise we have arrived in France to explore the French countryside at the cute town of Bordeaux.
Check out the Princess Sapphire Cruise we are on:
You know today is going to be a special one when we wake up in the morning in North of France and start our day by trying wine in a French Chateau...wow!
After many glasses, we jumped in our bus and drove to the next French Chateau to well try more red wine but at this one we also had a 4 course French meal for lunch.
After saying our goodbyes to France we made our way to the final stop - Guernsey, a self governing British isle where we had cream tea and enjoy the sunshine!

Vlog #34: Bordeaux, France || WINE AND BAGUETTES
Days 123-126
We caught the bus with Ouibus from Paris and stayed at Hotel F1 Bordeaux Sud Billenave d'Omon (our first hotel after months of hostels.)
We began our journey in Bordeaux with a long walk into the city, first visiting the unique Church of the Holy Cross. We then gazed upon the huge, gothic Basilica of St. Michael in a lively area within the city. We got to enjoy authentic Bordeaux wine and Baguettes for lunch by Garonne River. We walked over the Ponte de Pierre to wonder through the lovely Jardin botanique de Bordeaux (botanical garden).
Another day of sightseeing included seeing the Musée d'Aquitaine and Tour Pey-Berland. We got to see the Bordeaux Cathedral and Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux in perfect weather conditions. We spend the rest of the afternoon at Place de la Bourse where we had Bordeaux wine and baguettes again.

Family lunch in Bordeaux at Château de Terrefort-Quancard.mov
It's all about the family wine producers here in Bordeaux. Generation after generation, they put their soul, their know-how, the fruit of their labor inside the bottle.
And their name -- their reputation and values -- on the outside of the bottle.
Château de Terrefort-Quancard is a real family affair. Originally built in the 16th century, the château was bought by the Quancard family in 1891. Nowadays, it's run by Sylvette Quancard and her sister, Caroline, with distribution handled by their nephew, Roland Quancard, and the family's négociant house, Cheval Quancard.
The Quancard family has been making and selling wine in Bordeaux since 1844. Their logo incorporates the first letter of their name with the image of a horse -- cheval in French -- chosen as the embodiement of the values held high by the Quancard family -- authenticity, class & fidelilty.
The château is indeed a grand, historical building -- but above and beyond that, it's a home, brimming with memories of family dinners, children playing in the vineyards... life's stories.
The day we went to visit, there was a steady drizzle, which softened the green vineyards surrounding the château like in an Impressionist's painting. We were warmly greeted by all the family: Sylvette, who lives at Terrefort-Quancard, her sister Caroline, nephew Roland and the ab fab Emma.
In addition to a lovely lunch, served with wines from the château, including an exceptional 1995 Hommage à Jean et Raoul, Sylvette told us family stories, brought out photos, and proudly showed us her antique gravy boat collection.
One wonderful and unexpected story was how Luc's grandfather, who was at school with her father, Raoul Quancard, met his future bride, Luc's grandmother, at Château de Terrefort-Quancard. Ever thoughtful, Sylvette had prepared copies of photos for Luc of his grandfather when he was young, some even taken at Château de Terrefort-Quancard.
Bordeaux is a village! And the people are kind.
And the wine's not too bad either! ;)
The Château de Terrefort-Quancard, situated 20 km north-east of Bordeaux, sits on top of a hillside looking out over the Dordogne.
Varietals64% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon
Ageing In temperature controlled cement vats and in oak barrels.
Cellar keeping3 to 10 years
Tasting An appealing garnet red and ruby colour. A delicate bouquet with fragrances of bracken, candied fruit and spices. Full-bodied and ripe on the palate with mellowed tannins. A generous and delightfully fruity finish.
Food pairingIdeal for a baron of lamb, lamb fillet in pastry, a Bordeaux-style sirloin steak, or soft cheeses.
