Life Across the Border: El Paso to Ciudad Juarez
El Paso's proximity to Ciudad Juarez is a reminder to its residents what comes with U.S. citizenship.
With a border demarcating two countries, violence and poverty, one El Paso native stated they might be on the bottom of the escalator, about at least it is going up.
Set adjacent to one of Mexico's most violent areas, El Paso sits in stark contrast with a low crime rate and little drug abuse.
But residents at night can hear the sounds of gun-battles ringing across the border coming from the hills due to drugs.
Despite the fence dividing the border smugglers slingshot large packages of drugs over the top; when the residents in El Paso hear a thud, they know to stay inside.
