The Boulder City Hoover Dam Museum inside the Boulder Dam Hotel is a cool little spot to learn quite a bit of history about the town and Hoover Dam. Many of the exhibits are hands on and they show a movie that takes you through Hoover Dam's construction.
Boulder City
In 1928, President Calvin Coolidge signed the Boulder Canyon Project Act which authorized the building of Hoover Dam and the creation of Boulder City. For years, the Colorado River flowed uninterrupted from the Rocky Mountains to the Gulf of California. Its unpredictable path often caused flooding in the spring, and then it would dry up in the summer. By the 1920s, it became apparent that something needed to be done to control the route of the lower Colorado. The only way to do this was to construct a dam and harness the river while providing flood control and badly needed electricity to the western states. A company composed of six separate construction companies was awarded the contract to build the dam in 1931.

Boulder City, NV - Greater Las Vegas Real Estate
Boulder City, NV is part of the Greater Las Vegas Real Estate market, lying just outside the Las Vegas Valley next to Henderson. It has the largest land area of any city in Nevada, yet it's population is just over 16,000. It was created by the federal government for the building of Boulder Dam, later renamed to Hoover Dam, but the worker homes were only meant to be temporary. To their surprise, after the dam was completed, many of the workers wanted to stay. Instead of their homes being torn down, they were sold.
So what does Boulder City offer that would make people want to stay? Is it the small town atmosphere and lifestyle, with residents voting to limit it's growth in spite of the huge gains in development next door in the Las Vegas Valley? The attachment to preserving it's history? It's unique neighborhoods with a variety of home styles and custom homes? The amazing views of mountains in the Eldorado Valley or the Lake Mead views from the Hemenway Valley? Is it the access to all that Las Vegas offers, including a major international airport, but in a place often referred to as the Mayberry of the Las Vegas area.
Or is it the attraction from the many activities found around Boulder City? Like the many parks and community events held there. The train rides of the Nevada Southern Railway Museum. Hiking and biking trails or mountain biking and zip lining in Bootleg Canyon. All the water sports and cruises at Lake Mead, or canoe, kayak, paddle boarding and raft trips on the Lake Mead National Water Trail on the Colorado River below Hoover Dam. ATV and off-roading, skydiving, air tours, flight instruction and general aviation, or perhaps visiting a Ghost Town and gold mine in the nearby Eldorado Canyon. You can also stop in at the historic downtown for some food, a brew pub, or to explore the shops offering antiques to art and crafts and much more. Or you could just enjoy the Big Horned Sheep, Nevada's state animal, that like to call the Boulder City area home. Yes, there's quite a bit to do in this small town, whether you chose to call it home or for both visitors to drop by and Las Vegas locals to enjoy all that it has to offer year round,
Now while the population has been limited by choice, and also a limited amount of resale homes available, Boulder City does have a new home development for 2018. Boulder Hills Estates from Story Book Homes is underway. On build out it is proposed to add 127 new single and two story homes to the community, with current pricing starting in the $400k's and $500k's. For resale homes you'll find that generally the median pricing is above the Greater Las Vegas area, and also above the City of Henderson median. Of course the homes and lots with views will typically carry a premium, just as you would find in the Las Vegas Valley.
Even with the length of this video I couldn't possibly cover it all, but you will get a better idea of what can be found in and around Boulder City. The links below can help you explore a bit more online.

Boulder City Nevada
Hi, my name is Jennifer, with Desert Adventures, out of Boulder City, Nevada. And, Boulder City is the town that built the Hoover Dam. Initially, when the, when the government announced the building of the Dam, workers came from all over the United States, in effort to find a job-that was during the Great Depression. Housing was not available for the workers. Before Boulder City was built, perspective workers would live in Tent City, shanty towns, one of which being, on the Colorado River, called Rag Town. Conditions were hot, unsanitary, there was some deaths due to heat-related illness. Boulder City needed to be built.
Six companies, the company that built the Dam, as well as the federal government, made it a priority to build the town for the workers to live in. What their focus was, to provide a clean living and working environment for the Dam workers. The town was designed to house approximately 5,000 workers. The status of the workers on the Hoover Dam reflected in their house sizes, and locations. The most important employees were housed on the top of the hill, near the heart of town. Managers were housed just a little bit further down the hill. And, homes for manual labourers were located further down the hill, away from the pubic buildings and parks. Boulder City was originally built as a temporary town for the Hoover Dam workers. As you can see, it's still a vibrant city today. I'm Jen, with Desert Adventures, your premiere adventure company, located in Boulder City, Nevada.

Boulder City, Nevada - Hoover Dam
Hoover Dam, once known as Boulder Dam, is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the US states of Arizona and Nevada. It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression and was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin Roosevelt. Its construction was the result of a massive effort involving thousands of workers, and cost over one hundred lives. The dam was controversially named after President Herbert Hoover.
Since about 1900, the Black Canyon and nearby Boulder Canyon had been investigated for their potential to support a dam that would control floods, provide irrigation water and produce hydroelectric power. In 1928, Congress authorized the project. The winning bid to build the dam was submitted by a consortium called Six Companies, Inc., which began construction on the dam in early 1931. Such a large concrete structure had never been built before, and some of the techniques were unproven. The torrid summer weather and the lack of facilities near the site also presented difficulties. Nevertheless, Six Companies turned over the dam to the federal government on March 1, 1936, more than two years ahead of schedule.
Hoover Dam impounds Lake Mead, and is located near Boulder City, Nevada, a municipality originally constructed for workers on the construction project, about 25 mi (40 km) southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada. The dam's generators provide power for public and private utilities in Nevada, Arizona, and California. Hoover Dam is a major tourist attraction; nearly a million people tour the dam each year. Heavily travelled U.S. 93 ran along the dam's crest until October 2010, when the Hoover Dam Bypass opened.
Boulder City Train Depot at Clark County Museum
The Boulder City train depot, built in 1931 to handle passengers and freight bound for Boulder City and the construction site for Hoover Dam, was the first of many buildings moved to the Clark County Museum at 1830 S. Boulder Highway in Henderson, a Las Vegas suburb. The building was moved to the museum in 1974 and opened to the public in 1979. West of the depot are a 1920s box car, a 1940s caboose and a crossing signal. For more information about the museum, visit ClarkCountyNV.gov or call (702) 455-7955.
