Vlog #15: BLVD
We were able to get on the very very long list for Kansas City's Boulevard Brewery's Tasting and Tour. We got to see the inner workings of the brewery and got to enjoy some free samples of their delicious beer. It felt like being in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, except we got wasted. Not chocolate wasted, just straight up wasted. HAHA
7 Days of Beer-mas #1 - Nutcracker Ale by Boulevard Brewing
This is video 1 of 7 in a series of Christmas / Holiday beer tastings I'm doing this year. I love trying out new beers, and what better way to celebrate the season than by tasting various holiday ales and lagers from all around!
In this video, I'm tasting the Nutcracker Ale by Boulevard Brewing in Kansas City, Missouri. I found this beer to be particularly 'piney' in the hop notes--almost in an IPA category. A good beer, but I'm not sure if I would seek them out regularly.
Boulevard Brewing Saison Brett 2014
We have left the great state California and moved on down the tracks to Kansas City, Missouri. The California Beer Train may be over, but apparently my locomotive references still have a bit of steam left. Today at the tasting table we have a bit of a combo style. Boulevard Brewing brings us the 2014 version of their Saison-Brett. This limited yet annual release gets a heavy dose of dry hopping to go along with the addition of Brettanomyces yeast. After bottling they allow the beer to sit for three months before being released to get the brett character going as it were. Even with the three months, this is definitely a style of beer that could benefit from a longer period of cellaring to bring out more of the brett character. What's the difference? In general as we learned first hand from our previous beer tastings with Almanac, the younger the beer, the more fruit will come out. The older, you will get more of those funky barnyard type flavors. Time to taste and see where this beer is at in its life cycle. If you have any ideas for future episodes of Give It A Shot or just have a question, you can always send us an email to AboutBeverages@q.com.

Today vlog starts off at the Mercedes-Benz dealership to get my skid plate replaced and thankfully that went off without a hitch. Afterward I headed back to the house in order to finish up the upload of the vlog before racing over to the Liberty Memorial and the National World War I museum. The museum was really quite amazing including a number of uniforms, guns and artillery from The Great War. I had no option but to go to the top of the Liberty Memorial since it was a crystal clear day and I was treated to a top notch view of Kansas City.
Later on I headed off to L C's BBQ and had a pork sandwich which wasn't very good. Maybe I timed things wrong or maybe I just don't like Kansas City BBQ but it definitely underwhelmed me.
