Bourscheid is largest Castle in the country of Luxembourg. Bourscheids belonged to the most respected Families in the Region. Metternich replace the House of Bourscheid in 1926 before the end of French Revolution.
The imposing Castle was abandoned and finally fell into ruins in the 19th century.
My sons grew up hunting castles in Europe. It is our Family's sunday tradition to explore the ancient history of Europe.

Sparkie the Drone had an unfortunate accident when he went on vacation to Italy over the summer and has not been replaced.
This adventure takes us to Chateau Bourscheid in Central Luxembourg. We arrived just as the sun set below the horizon. Time with the enough light was limited.

Luxembourg Chateau de Bourscheid
Замок Буршайд известен тем, что по площади он является самым большим замком герцогства Люксембурга. Находится он недалеко от городка Эттельбрук, рядом с деревушкой Эш-сюр-Сюр. Стоит он на холме высотой 380 метров, под которым протекает река Зауэр. В плане замок имеет треугольную форму, при этом самая длинная сторона треугольника растянулась на 150 метров при ширине 53 метра. Закладывать замок начали ещё в далёком X веке на месте уже существовавших к тому времени деревянных строений. В Средние века замок постоянно расширялся и укреплялся, достигнув, в конце концов, площади в 1,2 гектара. В конце XIV века началось возведение внешних стен замка, имеющих 8 башен. Позднее замок многократно перестраивался, продолжая расти и меняя владельцев. Но с начала XIX века он пришёл в запустение и постепенно стал разрушаться. Его спасло то, что в 1936 году замок признали национальным достоянием, правда, к реставрации полуразрушенного замка государство смогло приступить только в 1972 году. Его главным помещением стал дворец Столзембургер. Теперь замок Буршайд регулярно принимает общественные и культурные мероприятия.

Die Burg von Bourscheid - Ösling - Luxemburg - Reisebericht
Burg Bourscheid, von dreieckiger Form, liegt auf einem, nur von Nordwesten zugänglichen Felssporn, 150 m über der Sauer.
Um das Jahr 1000 entstand aus einer primitiven hölzernen Befestigungsanlage eine erste feste Burg aus Stein. Ausgrabungen brachten römische, merowingische, karolingische und ottonische Spuren zu Tage. Diese erste Burg, die Oberburg, bestand aus Bergfried, kleinem Palas und Kapelle, umgeben von einer Ringmauer mit vier Türmen. Von dieser ersten romanisch-gotischen Burg zeugen jetzt nur noch Bergfried und Ringmauer, heute innere Ringmauer.
