Michael Halseth Describes the Halseth Family Years at Breitenbush Hot Springs
The Halseths ran the lower hot springs resort from 1955 until 1976. The upper, private property resort, was purchased from Merle Bruckman in 1956 and sold in 1963. Mike, and his brothers and sister spent their summers there while growing up.

An intentional community founded around 1979, a lovely group of loving dedicated souls care take this heaven on earth. The hot spring continually bubbles up from Mother Earth at 180 degrees Fahrenheit. A little too hot to tip my little toe into. :-)
A deep well was drilled which is now a capped geyser, also very very hot which is directly connected to the natural sauna. This natural hot water is piped to 7 other soaking pools on the property. My favorite was the silent pool which was usually around 103 to 107 degrees. Aaaah Meditation at its best.

Blessing, praying and singing to this water, not only the hot spring but also the beautiful Breitenbush River, helped me reclaim my balance and integrity from two months on the road. The workshops that were included in the bed accommodation were exactly what I needed. Plus 3 vegetarian meals a day, use of the grounds, library, lodge, soaking tubs, and labyrinth were included. You can't help but relax here.
My relaxation included emotional release. A Core Energetics class got me in touch with my deeper being. A writing class, writing from the heart, opened me to my true desires. And a Tai Massage class was just plain relaxing and fun.
An unexpected break from driving across country for 2 months.

This is beautiful, clear water but it's very cold and moving fast, so obviously there are no swimmers in this video. This is just a short distance (like maybe a mile) north of Detroit in the day use only area. Note that on the map, the same area is shown with much higher water levels. This is in Marion County, Oregon.

These Chinook Salmon are trapped below the Big Cliff and Detroit Dams and released at Breitenbush Hot Springs into the Breitenbush River, as they cannot migrate upstream past the dams.

Detroit Lake - Gorgeous Oregon Series
Could not have asked for a more perfect day. Sunshine, blue skies. I LOVE the PNW. I have some great photos as well. I will have to make a separate slideshow video for those as this one was already longer than I really wanted.
History:
Detroit Lake is situated over a historical road bed of the former Oregon Pacific Railroad. This route was built by Colonel T. Egenton Hogg as a proposed transcontinental railroad. Because of a lack of funding, the line terminated in Idanha, southeast of the lake. Idanha had rail service until the 1950s, when the track was removed for installation of the Detroit and Big Cliff reservoirs. Detroit Lake was created in 1953 after the completion of the dam. Part of the Willamette Valley Projects, the lake was intended primarily for flood control and power generation but has become one of the major recreation resources in western Oregon.

Northwest NV Expedition Part IV: Bog and Dyke Hot Springs
Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #177!
This is Part IV of my Northwestern Nevada series, in which some adventurous girlfriends and I set out to explore the hot springs, abandoned cabins and ghost towns of NW Nevada. After leaving Soldier Meadows, we continued on north toward the Oregon border, through some of the most DESOLATE country I've ever seen...stopping at two hot springs with somewhat unappealing names: BOG and DYKE. But what's in a name?! They were both awesome, and beautiful in a very bleak, desolate way.
