THE WALK TOUR - New River Gorge Bridge - 3rd Tallest in United States - **Full Tour**
The October 7, 2017 1pm Bridge Walk Tour. Fayetteville West Virginia. Full version.
The New River Gorge Bridge was designed by the Michael Baker Company under the direction of Chief Engineer Clarence V. Knudsen, and erected by U. S. Steel's American Bridge Division.
Most of the 22,000 tons of structural steel for the Bridge Project was fabricated at the American Bridge Division's Ambridge, Pa., plant.
All of the structural steel used for the New River Gorge Bridge is USS COR-TEN Steel, which oxides with age and gives the Bridge its dark russet color. More than 88 million pounds of steel and concrete were incorporated into the structure of the New River Gorge Bridge.
The New River Gorge Bridge took three years to complete and cost nearly 37 million dollars. Construction began on the Bridge in June of 1974, and was completed on October 22, 1977.
Because of the chosen arch design and the depth of the gorge, steel was moved into position by trolleys running on cables that spanned the gorge.
The New River Gorge bridge is 876 feet above the New River and is 3,030 feet in length. It is the second largest single span steel arch in the Western Hemisphere, and the highest vehicle carrying bridge in the United States.
West Virginia residents voted for the New River Gorge Bridge to be featured on their state quarter in 2005.

I made this trip in August-September 2017. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

New River Gorge Bridge | Insane Bridge Climb !!!
Spring is in full effect and what a way to kick it off. I've been researching this place for so long and by some miracle we were able to fit it into this spontaneous road trip. Why would we do this? because it was amazing. I read that the most common regret people have is not spending more time doing what they love. This is a small piece of what I love. I had a bunch of footage of how things went leading up to this but I left it out because none of it seemed exciting enough. This climb was so amazing I wanted to jump straight into it.

Bridge Day 2013- BASE Jumping the New River Gorge- Fayetteville, WV
A short compilation of some jumps and landings at Bridge Day 2013, thanks to all those who made it possible! A long quote from my friend Joseph P.- The longer I travel and the more people I meet, the more apparent it becomes that certain people will come and go in your life in order to fill a need. Not as a messiah, not as a savior, but as a light that shines to illuminate the path you are on, to show you what needs to be seen at that point in time. It is entirely up to you to open your eyes and allow yourself to see it. Some will be dim, others will shine bright. A select few will burn like the sun and make you feel a gravity so great that you have no choice but to change the course you are on.
You don't get to pick and choose who it might be and you don't get to decide how much impact they will have. All you can do is open yourself up to the possibility when it comes, give what you can while it's there, and be grateful when it leaves. Because life is too short to not burn like the sun. Anything else is a death sentence.
Going over the New River Gorge Bridge on U.S. Route 19 in Fayetteville, WV
(8-10-2018) Here is a short video of crossing the New River Gorge Bridge over the New River in Fayetteville, West Virginia on U.S. Route 19... the bridge itself is just shy of 3,000 feet long, and it takes about 30 seconds to drive across. It is WELL worth it to take Route 19 through WV to cross this AMAZING structure that sits 874 feet above the New River!!! Over 16,000 vehicles cross it everyday while traveling down Route 19, and the bridge is a famous national historical landmark, as the West Virginia state quarter has a picture of the bridge on the back, starting when the quarter was issued all the way back in 2005... With that being said, enjoy a video of crossing one of my very favorite bridges. :)
