Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is located in East Java, Indonesia, to the east of Malang and to the southeast of Surabaya, the capital of East Java. It is the only conservation area in Indonesia that has a sand sea, the Tengger Sand Sea (Indonesian: Laut Pasir Tengger), across which is the caldera of an ancient volcano (Tengger) from which four new volcanic cones have emerged. This unique feature covers a total area of 5,250 hectares at an altitude of about 2,100 metres (6,900 ft). The massif also contains the highest mountain in Java, Mount Semeru (3,676 m), four lakes and 50 rivers.

Mount Bromo is an active volcano in the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park on the island of Java, Indonesia. The view of the volcano sitting inside the 10 km wide Tengger caldera, and Mount Semeru behind, sending smoky clouds up every 20 minutes, is considered one of the most scenic volcano views in the world.

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is a National Park in East Java Province, Indonesia. This National Park is part of the administrative area of Pasuruan Regency, Malang Regency, Lumajang Regency andProbolinggo Regency. This Park was settled since 1982, but it already protected since 1919, with covers a total area of 5,250 hectares at an altitude of about 2,100 m.
Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is the only conservation area in Indonesia that having sand sea, most people in Indonesia call as Lautan Pasir Tengger. This area is lies acrros the caldera of an ancient volcano mountain of Tengger, from which four new volcanic cones emerged.
In this Park, there is the highest mountain in Java, Semeru Mountain; the famous mount of Bromo and there is four lakes and 50 rivers. Others are also become the interesting to be visited, like; Mount Batok, Mount Kursi, Mount Watangan, Mount Widodaren. The lakes that recognize are, Ranu Pane,Ranu Regulo, Ranu Kumbolo and Ranu Darungan.
For those who like hiking, it is advisable to take the route from Malang, because they can enjoy the magnificent sand sea longer than other route. The Starting point can be start from Ngadas, which is the last village around the National Park. It is also advisable to charge the supplies, especially water, for after passing the Ngadas Village there will not be found some source of water.
Beside the scenery, there are numbers of flora and fauna that attractively can be found in this National Park. The rare and endangered species that live in the Park include civet (Pardofelis marmorata), deer (Cervus timorensis), long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis), deer (Muntiacus muntjak), red jungle fowl (Gallus Gallus), leopard (Panthera pardus), ajag (Cuon alpinus), and various species of birds such as kestrel bird (Accipiter virgatus), hornbills (Buceros rhinoceros silvestris), Crested serpent eagle (Spilornis cheela Crested), black Srigunting (Dicrurus macrocercus), bold eagle (Haliastur indus), and grouse that live in Ranu Pane, Ranu Regulo, and Ranu Kumbolo.
The area around the Park in inhabited by the indigenous people of Tengger. Tengger people are one of the few Hindu communities in Java Island. The local religion is the remnant from Majapahit era. Therefore, the cultures and the religion is similar to Bali, but it contains even more animist elements.
The people of Tengger are believe that they are the descendets of Majapahit empire and they were driven into the hills after the arrival of Muslim Madurese during the 19th century.
So far, it is already reveal that this National Park is named after the two famous mountains of Bromo and Semeru, also, it inhabited by Tengger people.

Mt Bromo, Indonesia: Adventures and Misadventures in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park
After being in Bali (video here: ) I made it over to the big island of Indonesia: Java. My first stop on Java Island was the famous Mt Bromo and Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. Led with the idea of pristine volcanoes and impressive natural sights, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with my Bromo experience. The park isn't cheap to enter and the area is completely strewn with trash and garbage. Even at the mouth of the volcation there was plenty of rubbish. When we headed out to watch sunrise, the area was packed with tourists: hundreds of them. It really is a shame as Java Island, and all of this part of Indonesia has such potential as a tourism destination, but it is just so overrun.
Anyways, I continue on Java Island next episode as I head to Yogyakarta, so stay tuned for that!

The Tengger Sand Sea has been protected since 1919. The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park was declared a national park in 1982.

3D2N SURABAYA-MOUNT BROMO-IJEN CRATER-SURABAYA / KETAPANG FERRY PORT
Day 1: Surabaya/Malang to Bromo Tourism Resort
The trip is started from Surabaya or Malang. You can choose to be picked up either at the airport or train station.
Afterward, you will be directed right to the Bromo Tourism Resort. The trip to the resort will take up to approximately 3.5 hours. When you have reached the resort area, you will check in at one of the hotels located near the resort, then you can have free program at the hotel you choose.
Day 2: Bromo Sunrise Tour – Ijen Crater Tourism Resort
The second day of Bromo sunrise Tour Package Ijen Crater-Blue Flame is started by hiking. The Sunrise Tour hike is started from the hotel you have checked in at 3:30 am. You will be picked up by a jeep which will take you all the way to the view point where you can enjoy the spectacular sunrise, Bromo Sunrise. The top of the view point is the most beautiful spot as the view point to enjoy the sunrise. Right from that point, you will see panoramic view of mount Bromo perfectly. You can see the range of hills and fields under. Of course, you can only have such a fascinating experience if the weather is friendly. After you have done enjoying the view of Bromo sunrise, you can go down to Bromo’s sea of sand by Bromo jeep to the main destination, Mount Bromo. From the parking area of Bromo jeep, you need to continue the trip on foot to the crater of Mount Bromo. In case you cannot make the walk, you can have an alternative by renting horse. There are a lot of horses offered to take you around Bromo tourism resort. When you have had enough enjoying the view of Mount Bromo, you can go exploring the crater of Mount Bromo. At the end of your trip at Mount Bromo, the jeep will take you back to the hotel for breakfast, shower, and packing. As you finish packing your stuff, then you need to check out from the hotel and proceed to Ijen Crater.
The trip to the next destination will take 5 hours by car. Reaching the next destination, you can check in at hotel and have some rest before you go on the next tour.
Day 3: Ijen Blue Flame Tour – Surabaya/ Ketapang ferry port
On the third day of Bromo Tour Package Ijen Crater and Blue Flame, you need to start the tour at 01:00 am to go to Ijen Crater. This is the perfect time to spot the well-recognized Blue Fire. You will reach the Paltuding entrance at 2:00 am. Right from that point, you will go on foot hiking Mount Ijen for about 3 Km with tour guide who will take you to the location of Blue Fire at the bottom of Ijen Crater. After enjoying the Blue Fire phenomenon, you can go back to the top of Ijen crater to see the night view of Ijen crater from above, where you can see the overall crater adorned by Blue Fire. And also you can enjoy the view of green acid lake, sulfuric crater dome with yellowish colour, local miners activity loading sulfur from the bottom of the crater. At the end of tour, you can go back to the hotel and start your trip back to Surabaya or Ketapang Ferry port. That will be the end of your Mount Bromo Ijen blue flame tour Package.
