Buck Creek Fishing Report 10/08/16 - Mountain MicroTrout
North Carolina Mountain Stream Fishing
Waterfalls of Buck Creek, Pisgah National Forest, NC
A hike only for hardcore waterfallers. From where you park you can see cars constantly driving up to Table Rock picnic area, but you are as far away from civilization as you can get in this area. I took the Mountains-to-Sea Trail east down to Steels Creek, then left the trail and followed Buck Creek upstream. This hike involves hours of creek walking, bouldering, and bushwhacking. It also poured before I got to the first waterfall making every rock scramble extremely hazardous. It took me 5+ hours to navigate less then 3 miles of Buck Creek. In order you'll see Orange Rock Falls, Buck Creek Falls, unnamed waterfall, Mossy Chute Falls, unnamed waterfall, and Mossy Ledge Falls. I highly suggest only doing this in a group and on a dry day.
At some points in the video there is high squealing, sorry about that. I think after the first downpour some water got into my microphone as it was a constant battle keeping my phone dry.
Hike distance was 8.3 miles in 7 hours

Trout Fishing 4/19/17
Took the afternoon off to do a little trout fishing on Armstrong Creek in Marion, NC. Not a lot of fish to be seen or caught, but ended up catching 3, 2 of which I kept for the grill.
Moonshine Creek Campground
Plenty to do in this area, camping, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, rafting or kayaking and its not far from skiing in the winter. And after a hard day of adventuring stop by Innovation Brewing for some amazing brews. Thanks again to Bird in Hand for the music.

Walking around Curtis Creek Campground - Old Fort, NC - RV Camping
Courtesy of Recreation.gov
Overview
Curtis Creek Campground is nestled in the mountains at the base of the Blue Ridge just minutes from the quaint town of Old Fort and less than an hour from the popular city of Asheville. Located in the first tract of National Forest land in the eastern US at the site of an old Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) camp, the campground is surrounded by old growth forests and roaring trout streams. The gravel road through the campground ascends to the Blue Ridge Parkway, providing easy access to the Mount Mitchell area.
Natural Features:
Located in rich mountain hardwood forests at an elevation of 2,000 feet, Curtis Creek Campground provides a secluded streamside setting. Curtis Creek, a popular trout stream surrounded by lush rhododendron and hemlock, runs along the east side of the campground. Old-growth forests cover the mountain peaks on either side of the valley. The Curtis Creek area provides beautiful scenery year-round, from stunning fall foliage displays to abundant spring and summer wildflowers.
Recreation:
Visitors to the campground can enjoy a variety of activities including fishing, swimming, day hiking, picnicking, and scenic driving. Curtis Creek is well known for its excellent trout fishing. Swimming holes along the creek provide wading opportunities on hot summer days. History buffs will enjoy exploring the remains of the old CCC buildings surrounding the campground. Two Forest Service trails depart from the campground. The Hickory Branch trail provides a short (approximately 1/2 mile) hike to a series of waterfalls, and longer hikes to access the backcountry area around Mackey Mountain. Mackey Mountain and the valley of Mackey Creek contain the largest unbroken tract of old-growth forest in the Pisgah National Forest. The Snooks Nose trail provides a strenuous hike to a ridge with beautiful views, eventually ending at the Blue Ridge Parkway. Many other Forest Service trails are within a short drive of the campground, including Catawba Falls and Point Lookout trail.
Facilities:
The campground provides a variety of campsites. There are three loops with 25 sites. One loop is fully accessible, barrier free and can accommodate RVs up to 35ft. A second loop features dispersed tent-only roadside sites that provide a secluded forest experience. A third loop features tent-only sites in an open grassy area. All sites include a tent pad, picnic table, lantern post, and fire ring. Vault toilets, drinking water pumps, and bear-proof trash and recycling receptacles are provided. A campground host is on site to provide visitor assistance.
Nearby Attractions:
Curtis Creek Campground is six miles from the town of Old Fort, which has a variety of restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, and medical facilities. Popular attractions in Old Fort include the Mountain Gateway Museum, the Old Train Depot, Davidson Fort, Catawba Falls, and Andrews Geyser. The campground is seven miles from the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, close to Mount Mitchell State Park. 700 Pound Snake Pulled out of Lake in North Carolina
Giant 700 pound snake caught in lake in Proctor, North Carolina. The giant man eating python was measured at 98 feet long. Police were contacted to see if there have been any recently filed missing person reports as a snake this big could have surely eaten a human.
This giant snake is massive and just gorgeous, but it didn't take long to find out that the STORY behind it... was fake, just another hoax.
While the image is indeed real, I think the size of the giant snake could have been exaggerated due to the camera angle
Nevertheless, this snake is still huge, but where did it come from? The markings on it's skin looks similar to that of a reticulated python native to Southeast Asia. After playing around with a little Google translate, the mystery was finally solved.
This giant python came from Indonesia and after some rough translating, it turns out that it was discovered this last Thanksgiving near the village of Belinyu City. It was found by accident by a group of construction workers who severely injured the reptile while knocking down a large dead tree in which the python was sleeping inside of. The workers put the dying snake out of it's misery and buried it.
It's sad to see such an incredible animal killed, especially one that could have been a new world record size. I wish there were more pictures so we could get a better idea of just how large it was.
I really enjoyed learning about this amazing snake, if you guys have any cool wildlife stories or interesting animals that you think I might enjoy, tell me about it on Facebook
