Hotel Búðir is without a doubt set in one of the most beautiful places in Iceland, just a couple of hours drive from Reykjavik. This elegant hotel is in a league of its own, boasting all amenities, a charming atmosphere, great service, and a restaurant renowned for its exquisite cuisine.
The hotel sits at the edge of The Snaefellsjokull National Park in a lava field on the westernmost tip of the Snaefellsnes peninsula in the western region of Iceland. Due to the hotel´s location, guests have an impressive view of the breathtaking Snaefellsjokull glacier and the Budir-estuary which meanders into the vast Faxafloi-Bay where a number of seals reside.
The hotel´s history dates back to 1948 but the history of Budir stretches back long before the hotel was originally built. Budir was a prominent trading centre from the 17th century and remains from that time can be seen around the hotel.
The tranquillity of the countryside and the force radiating from the glacier inspire and invigorate guests. Staying at Hotel Búðir, whether it is for meetings and conventions, or for personal – not to mention romantic occasions, is therefore always a fantastic experience.

Best vows ever in this very emotional Icelandic wedding at Hotel Budir.
Iceland, the country of fire and ice, but also the country right in between the countries Emily and Ofer come from. Although the both live in the United States only Emily was born there and Ofer came from Israel. With having a lot of family and friends living both countries, Iceland was the perfect spot to get married.
But obviously that was not the only reason, ever since their first date they talked about going to Iceland, with their keen eye of aesthetics being wedding photographers themselves, they just knew this was the most beautiful place to get exchange their incredible vows and pledge their love to each other...

밤새 비바람이 몰아쳤고 아침에도 바람이 무서울 정도로 불었는데 다행히 좀 잦아들어서 이동 가능하였음. 바람이 줄어든 것이 이정도. 전 날 본 온 세상 하얀 세상이었던 것이 다른 세상으로 변화. Black Church, Ingjaldshóll church에서 사진 찍었음. 호텔 부디르 방 창 밖으로 Black Church가 보인다. 날씨가 맑아지면 오로라를 볼 수 있을텐데 지금 나가보니 별이 한개도 안보임.

This is the story of Candice and Nick, two Canadians who decided to flee their beautiful country to make an intimate elopement in another of the most beautiful known: Iceland.
They climbed atop a hill, next to a lighthouse in the small port town of Stykkisholmur, northwest of the island. They swore a life full of adventures and calm, of cold and heat, of dancing and peace. A life together.
We exchanged emails and Skype calls for months but it was not until the morning of the wedding when we first met in person while sharing a breakfast at the Hotel Egilsen. And then, we move to the Hotel Budir for the wedding photos. Seldom have we connected so quickly and well with other people: same musical tastes, cinematic, vital attitudes …
The 48 hours we shared together in Iceland were revitalizing when the weariness of a long wedding season began to weigh.
It was a gift to meet them, share that adventure with them and discover that life is not a journey, it is rather a dance, a great song!

As we look around in wonder, we can know that all of this was made by a God Whose kindness extends beyond our brokenness, Who never gives up on us.
These were the most beautifully epic vows we'd ever heard in the most beautiful place we've ever been. Alicia and Jason, we love you. You are some of the most special people we know, and I'm just so thankful for this opportunity to spend time with you in the majestic lands of Iceland.
The turbulence. Customs. A rental car not quite ready. Very cold weather. Wind. Rain. Slipping in the mud. It was all worth it to have these moments. Lots of memories made. Meeting new people. Hilarious conversations and long car rides across the vast and vacant terrain. Icelandic hot dogs. Icelandic cod. A cozy AirBnB in Grundarfjörður, across from the most photographed mountain in Iceland, Kirkjufell, also featured in Game of Thrones.
On the last day we got to hang out at Budir Church, next to the Hotel Budir. So cold. So worth it. Can't wait to go back, but also ready to experience Ireland (hint, hint).

Black church of Búðir

Wanted to start off this channel with this short video of black church in Búðir and lava fields around it on Snaefellsnes peninsula that I filmed on my recent trip to Iceland.
The Buðir black church is one of 3 black churches in Iceland. They are black because the exterior wood is painted with pitch, just like the hull of a boat. This is to protect it from the harsh Icelandic elements. This works fairly well and buildings treated in this way have survived over 100 years. The black church here is special. There has been a church here since 1703. When the importance of Buðir as a trading post declined, the hamlet was declared to no longer be a parish. A replacement church was needed, but not forthcoming from the church.

After traveling in Iceland, I was curious as to why the male and female names on graves did not show the same surname.
I assumed it was something to do with maiden names but was very wrong. In the video I provide a couple of quotes from a Wall Street International article which explains how Icelandic surnames:
