Art of the Hunt
Wyoming-based folklorist Andrea Graham discussed her fieldwork among fishers and hunters in the contemporary American West and explores how these traditions maintain, reinforce, and celebrate deeply-rooted elements of place, family and community life. The folklore and traditions surrounding hunting and fishing are among the most ancient expressions of traditional culture in contemporary America. Although hunting and fishing are not usually seen as artistic pursuits, a closer examination of the handmade tools and gear used, the skills of guides and outfitters, the decorative crafts involved and the hunting and fishing stories told among hunters reveal an enormous depth of creativity, beauty and tradition. These traditions remain strong, especially in the American West.

Rocky Mountains USA Bison (Tatanka) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Like nowhere else in the Unites States, Wyoming has become the indelible symbol of the legendary Old Wild West where vast untouched prairies and the magnificent Rocky Mountains make up the wonderful scenery of this cowboy State. Sometimes erroneously referred to as ‘buffalo’, the bison is probably the most famous animal that roams the North American plains and is known by the Sioux Indians as, ‘tatanka’. In addition to prairie land, bison can also be found in forest areas such as The Grand Teton National Park. Once a year the otherwise peaceful town of Strurgis is transformed into one of the largest motorcycle gatherings in the world. For an entire week everything focuses upon chrome, horsepower and the name, Harley Davidson. Motorcyclists travel here from each corner of the United States and in the year 2000 more than six hundred thousand enthusiasts visited the event. The most spectacular section of the Wind River is located in the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone National Park. The canyon’s most prominent landmarks are the thirty three and ninety four metre high Upper and Lower Falls. Much of the striking scenery of the Wind River Valley now belongs to the Shoshone and Arapho Indian Reservation. The Jackson Hole Rodeo has retained its age-old charm, unlike the far more popular and larger venues to be found in the country’s major cities that attract thousands of visitors. Tatanka is a living symbol of the Great Plains in the State of Wyoming and still embodies life in the Wild West of old. The legends and traditions of cowboys and trappers, plus the fascinating cultural heritage of the Indian people, has not only survived here but can still be felt right up to the present day.

Roaming in a Herd of Wild Horses near Laramie Wyoming
On this Airstream Life vLog, we go on one of our favorite adventures to date. We take a 2-hour tour at the Deerwood Ranch Wild Horse EcoSanctuary where we go out in an ATV and get to learn about the history of the ranch and then roam among their herd of 350 wild horses. This ranch works with the BLM to feed the horses and helps get them off the public lands. It is amazing to be able to go among the horses and be part of the herd. Some of them are super curious and even come up to sniff you and the ATV. Between the horses, the wildflowers and the mountains it was an absolutely gorgeous morning and we would recommend it to anyone!
After being awed in the morning we headed into Laramie for lunch at a brewery. We walked around downtown to see the cool mural project and finally ended up at the University of Wyoming to see their T-Rex statue. Wish we could spend more time in Laramie but we have to move on!

The Best Places to Visit in Wyoming
The Best Places to Visit in Wyoming
One of the most sparsely populated states in the US, Wyoming is a land of rugged landscapes, rich tribal legend, rodeos, ranches, cowboy towns, and some of the world's great wilderness areas. The Cowboy State is the ideal destination for anyone who wants to explore the dramatic natural beauty of the American West. Yellowstone, with its geothermal wonders, together with the spectacular Grand Teton National Park comprise one of the largest intact temperate-zone ecosystems on the planet. Welcoming nearly 4 million visitors each year across their two official national parks and multiple national forest reserves, Wyoming is considered as one of the wilder and more rugged states. Home to over 65 species of mammals and dozens of species of birds and fish, Wyoming is the nature lover’s state for sure.

Skiing States: North Dakota - Part 1 and 2
The landscape that inspired Theodore Roosevelt is relatively unknown to the rest of Americans. Locals splitboard and cross country ski here when the snow is good. My journey was to seek out backcountry lines on the buttes and Badlands, an area under attack from the oil industry and 100+ years of illegal colonist land seizures. Jeremy Jones of POW talks about oil development here and a local splitboarder shares his stoke for North Dakota powder. Dakota Access Pipeline Protests are explained. Natives Outdoors athlete Conner Ryan and local historian Calvin Grinnell (Running Elk) help us understand the history of the land. Cartoons by Marty Two Bulls and local Mandan-Hidatsa music from Keith Bear.
I stopped at White Butte, the state high point as part of the Skiing States project to ski the 24 snowy state high points in the USA.
The Killdeer Mountains are a beautiful prominent location for skiing and tribal history however are occupied and shut off. Other locations on federal lands have potential for gully and chute skiing and are yet to be explored. Wild buffalo roam in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Get a good map and check out North Dakota for touring or to find undiscovered lines.
Conserve what is left of the North Dakota Badlands, support the Badlands Conservation Alliance. Check out Natives Outdoors to learn about their mission to highlight native athletes and outdoor initiatives.

The Vigilante Group Of New Yorkers Who Hunt Rats At Night (HBO)
Rats aren't only a part of New York City’s underground — they're an inseparable part of its pop culture. There’s Master Splinter from the Ninja Turtles, Pizza Rat, and even Cannibal Rat. But for every celebrity rat, there’s another 250,000 to 2 million anonymous rodents living in the city — and the city health department is fighting to bring down.
The battle can be deadly. Last year, three people in a Bronx city block contracted leptospirosis through rat urine. Only two survived.
To combat the problem, Mayor Bill de Blasio launched a $32 million initiative to rid New York of its signature rodents, concentrating on hyper-infested areas that the city describes as rat reservoirs.
Multiple city agencies are currently focusing their efforts around public housing buildings, where they plan to replace dirt basement floors, block passageways and amp up trapping, baiting and poisoning efforts. They also apply dry ice to the rats’ burrow systems, effectively suffocating them as the carbon dioxide gets released while the ice melts.
But if all else fails, a small group of dedicated rat hunters are ready to step in.
When dusk settles, Richard Reynolds and his vigilante rat hunters known as “The Ryders Alley Trencher-Fed Society” — or R.A.T.S for short — roam lower Manhattan’s streets and dumpsters, keeping their dogs’ instincts sharp and the hunting tradition alive.
In the three decades Richard has been hunting rats with his dogs, he says he must have killed thousands of rats. But he doesn’t really keep track.
A hunter through and through, he only counts the ones that get away.
