Medora North Dakota
In this episode of Cheap Family Travel ( Nick, Regan, Maggie, and Kate visited Medora, North Dakota, just outside of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The highlight of our trip was attending the Medora Musical, the world-famous performance of All-American singing, dancing, comedy, and beautiful horses, all in the magical setting of the outdoor Burning Hills Amphiteather. We camped inside the National Park, but if you don't know where to stay in Medora, there are several Medora hotels and other places to stay in Medora. One of the most famous is the Rough Riders Hotel in Medora, North Dakota. In addition to the Medora Musical and the National Park, there are many other great sites to visit, like the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame, the Harold Schafer Heritage Center, and the Von Hoffman House Antique Doll Museum. Bigger isn't always better; the small town of Medora has a lot to offer and is a great place for a family vacation.

In Search of North Dakota's National Forest, Once Was
A National Forest, in North Dakota? There was one! Theodore Roosevelt in 1908 designated 13,940 acres of beautiful Ponderosa Pine of the southern North Dakota badlands as Dakota National Forest. In 1917 it was abolished. There are no structures remaining, but it's still as beautiful as ever. The property is now private land, owned by Logging Camp Ranch (which offers camping and cabin accommodations). You'll find it northwest of Amidon, North Dakota (1 mile west of Amidon on Highway 85, then a right turn on to a gravel road, follow for less than one mile, then take the first right ,which is another gravel road. Follow the road north about 11 miles, look for signs.) The forest is near the Burning Coal Veins Campground and Trailhead, one of our favorite places to catch the Maah Daah Hey Trail. It's one of the places highlighted on The Theodore Roosevelt Trail. Pick up a brochure about the trail at travel and rest centers in North Dakota, or get more information at: theodorerooseveltcenter.org #theodoreroosevelt #NorthDakota #ndlegendary #badlands #MaahDaahHey #BeautifulBadlandsND
