Cabrillo National Monument Park // San Diego California
When you come to San Diego California this is definitely a place to check out.
Cabrillo National Monument Park
I captured only a little piece of that park ,there is so much more that I didn't get to go . There are beautiful tide pools, there is a very old lighthouse and many more.
Usually the entrance fee cost $10 but I was lucky to get in for free ;-))

Cabrillo National Monument | TIDE-POOLS - San Diego 2019
On this day (May 2019), I explored / hiked Cabrillo National Monument is at the Southern tip of the Point Loma Peninsula in San Diego, California, United States. It commemorates the landing of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo at San Diego Bay on September 28, 1542. It is estimated more than 3 million visitors a year to come and see this relaxing atmosphere. Cabrillo National Monument is one of the premier tide-pool location in San Diego. This was a special day because it was Memorial Day and the National Monument did not close until 8pm, but are usually closed at 5pm throughout the year. Individuals should be mindful of the slippery and wet conditions when exploring some the location near the ocean and should wear shoes appropriate for exploring this habitat. As always, another fun experience.

Cabrillo National Monument, San Diego | #15/419
Our first stop in Season 2 of our National Park Travel Series was Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego. Cabrillo National Monument commemorates the first European steps on the west coast. In 1542 (NOT 1942 as the video says) Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo sailed into San Diego harbor and became the first European settler to stop foot on what later became the west coast of America. The monument also preserves the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, built in 1854, was one of the first lighthouses built on the west coast.
Another cool thing to see here are tide pools, but unfortunately we weren’t there at the right time for that - which is usually in winter when the low tides are lower and happen during the day.
???? Stick around for bloopers at the end of the video!

Cabrillo National Monument Tide Pools
The tide pools at the Cabrillo National Monument ( ) are extensive and have a wide variety of marine life for visitors to see. The tide pool area is easy to get to and even has a docent program, restrooms and volunteers to help answer questions. Follow the dirt path along the cliffs and down to the tide pool area. There is plenty of marine life to see including large colonies of aggregating sea anemones, barnacles of all shapes and sizes, top snails, hermit crabs and lots of different types of algae. This location is particularly a good location to see large owl limpet that cling to the sides of rocks. Be sure to visit the other parts of the park as there is an old light house to see, a visitor center, some great hiking trails and stunning views of the city of San Diego. This location was also featured in a documentary nature series Life in a Tide Pool ( )

The Old Point Loma Lighthouse is the highest point in the park and has been a San Diego icon since 1855. The old lighthouse is now a museum, and visitors may enter it and view some of the living areas.
The area encompassed by the national monument includes various former military installations, such as coastal artillery batteries, built to protect the harbor of San Diego from enemy warships. Many of these installations can be seen while walking around the area. A former army building hosts an exhibit that tells the story of military history at Point Loma.
One of the most thriving and diverse animal communities of Cabrillo National Monument is located in the intertidal zone and tide pools. In the winter (December through March), migrating gray whales can be seen off the coast from the Whale Overlook station, 100 yards south of the old lighthouse. Established in 1950, this was the first public whale watching lookout point in the world. During its first year of operation, 10,000 people visited the lookout to observe the gray whale migration.
