The Cafesjian Center for the Arts (CCA) is dedicated to bringing the best of contemporary art to Armenia and presenting the best of Armenian culture to the world. Inspired by the vision of its founder, Mr. Gerard L. Cafesjian, the Center offers a wide variety of exhibitions, derived from Mr. Cafesjian's own extensive collection of contemporary art. Having celebrated its grand opening in November 2009, CCA continues to exhibit unique works of modern art, offers a wide variety of exhibitions and a diverse program of lectures, films, concerts, and numerous educational initiatives for children and adults. Annual attendance at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts exceeds 1,000,000 visitors.

Private Opening / Encounters with Art; Yerevan: View From the Future exhibition at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts
Continuing its inter-museum cooperation project through organizing joint exhibitions with sister museums, the Cafesjian Center for the Arts launched Yerevan: View From The Future exhibition on October 11, 2012 organized in partnership with Yerevan History Museum marking the launch of 2012 Erebuni-Yerevan celebrations.
The exhibition features a selection of fine and graphic artworks by renowned Armenian artists (M. Saryan, P. Terlemezyan, H. Kojoyan, S. Arakelyan and others), portraying various scenes of Yerevan in the early 20th century as well as photographs of modern-day Yerevan symbolizing the progress of the city in retrospect to old Yerevan.
The private opening event started at Sasuntsi Davit Garden Gallery with the ribbon cutting ceremony by the Mayor of Yerevan, Taron Margaryan followed by a private tour of the exhibition for the mayor by the CCA Acting Executive Director Vahagn Marabyan and the Director of Yerevan History Museum Armine Sargsyan. Next, Mr. Marabyan and Mrs. Sargsyan greeted the guests with welcoming speeches. After the private preview of the exhibition, all the guests were invited to the Special Events Auditorium, where the second part of the event, Encounters with Art took place.
The Encounters with Art was opened with Vahagn Marabyan's welcoming speech during which Mr. Marabyan once again greeted the guests and presented the program of the event. Next, Ara Haytayan, Armenian artists and Art Historian presented a comprehensive lecture on the artists and the period in Armenian Art presented at the Yerevan: View from the Future exhibition and Armen Yesayants, PhD in Arts, CCA Curatorial Assistant to the Associate Director for Public Programs briefly presented the Photo project in the framework of the exhibition.
Thereafter, the evening was summarized with the performance of the famous and loved Armenian singer Forsh and his Re-Minor Ensemble, who presented several beloved songs about Yerevan. The performance was very reviving. The audience enthusiastically applauded and sang along with Forsh.
As a closure of the evening the guests were invited to the Escalator Gallery to a reception where they had excellent time conversing with each other, enjoying the beautiful view of Yerevan from the Three Divers Terrace. The background outdoor music of various songs about Yerevan created a special warm atmosphere. The evening was a success and many patrons were in attendance, including famous representatives of Armenian cultural society, art critics, museum directors, artists, musicians as well as some representatives from the RoA Government and Ministries, representatives of Embassies based in Armenia, CCA members, Honorable citizens of Yerevan and many others. All guests were given a copy of the exhibition catalog and an envelope with all the photographs of modern-day Yerevan on view at the exhibition.
Everybody was very excited about the project and exhibition. Many enjoyed the opportunity to form a true idea of the Yerevan they never happened to see.

Cascade Complex/Yerevan
The Cascade is a giant stairway in Yerevan, Armenia. It links the downtown Kentron area of Yerevan with the Monument neighborhood. The construction of the cascade designed by architects Jim Torosyan, Aslan Mkhitaryan, and Sargis Gurzadyan was launched in 1971 and completed in 1980.
Inside the Cascade, underneath the exterior steps are a couple of escalators going the length of the complex. There are also rooms connected to some of the landings along the escalators which compose the Cafesjian Museum of Art.The exterior of cascade, in addition to stairs has multiple levels with fountains and sculptures. The stairs afford walkers unobstructed views of central Yerevan and Mount Ararat.Cascade is well known by the young generation as a place to go drink coffee, tea, alcoholic beverages and get a bite to eat. There are outdoor concerts with a great view from up on the Cascade staircase. Cafesjian has events like Jazz concerts, classical guitar, and much more. A great place full of night life.
The construction began in 1971, during the Soviet period. The first phase was completed in 1980. Further development was implemented between 2002 and 2009 when the complex was handed over to the American-Armenian businessman Gerard Cafesjian in the early 2000s and a complete renovation was performed. A large museum complex was also planned for the top. Although the construction of the museum was launched, it was frozen in the early stages and has not continued for years.

On March 30th, 2018 the Cafesjian Center for the Arts presented the inaugural exhibition in independent Armenia of Ara Harutyunyan (1928-1999), one of the most celebrated Armenian monumental sculptors of the Soviet era.
The exhibition Ara Harutyunyan: Monumental Vision dedicated to the 90th birthday anniversary of the artist has been implemented in cooperation with the Ara Harutyunyan Foundation. It presents approximately 60 pieces, including sculptures and graphic works from Ara Harutyunyan’s family collection, which provide insight to the multifaceted approaches and creative vision of the artist.
Gala Opening of My Armenia Pan-Armenian Festival at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts
This year the RoA Ministry of Diaspora organized a pan-Armenian festival entitled My Armenia. The goal of the Festival is to strengthen the connections between Armenia, Artsakh and the Diaspora, preserve the cultural identity, tighten the cultural connections between young artists and to contribute to the development of the unique Armenian culture.
The grandiose opening ceremony of My Armenia Pan-Armenian Festival took place on Friday evening, June 29, 2012 at the Cafesjian Sculpture Garden. Yerevan Mayor Taron Marqaryan, RoA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan, representatives from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Armenian Government Officials, Members of Parliament, public figures and cultural officials were present at the opening.
The concert opened with the welcoming speech of the RoA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan, who greeted all the young people who came from different parts of the world to their motherland to celebrate the great Festival in the Armenian capital. Mrs. Hakobyan thanked the Festival participants and the high-level guests and announced the opening of the Festival followed by a solemn parade by the Festival participants and a concert program featuring soloists, choirs, dancing groups and duduk players from different communities of Diaspora.
Beloved Armenian singers Arman Hovhannisyan, Hamlet Gevorgyan, Leyla Saribekyan and Mher also performed during the concert. The hymn of My Armenia was first performed during the concert by the famous Armenian singer Armine Nahapetyan.
A high festivity mood was prevailing in spite of the rainy weather; the audience danced and sang alongside the dance groups.
The Festival will continue until late September. Dance ensembles, choirs, individual performers, duduk players from different communities of Diaspora will come up with concert programs not only in Yerevan but in provinces, as well as in Nagorno Karabakh.

Yerevan Mayor Honors the Cafesjian Center for the Arts with a Certificate of Gratitude
On December 26, 2011, during a ceremony hosted by Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, the Cafesjian Center for the Arts received a Certificate of Gratitude from the Yerevan Municipality. The CCA was recognized for Efficient Operations and Creative Success. The CCA's Acting Executive Director Vahagn Marabyan received the honor on behalf of the Center.
The History Museum of Armenia and the Sylva Kaputikyan House-Museum were similarly recognized.

The first group exhibition project opened in Eagle Gallery of the Cafesjian Center for the Arts on July 6, 2017. The exhibition titled Reconsidering Nature features nine Armenian women artists: Arevik Arevshatyan (b. 1957), Diana Hakobyan (b. 1974), Teni Vardanyan (b. 1957), Manan Torosyan (b. 1984), Marina Dilanyan (b. 1957), Mary Moon (b. 1977), Moko Khachatryan (b. 1969), Sarko Meené (b. 1984), Sona Abgaryan (b. 1979).
The artists included in the exhibition not only differ in their style, but also represent different generations, they work with different media and, their perceptions of the world are entirely different from one another’s.
The relationship between humans and nature, in particular, occupies an important place, if not a central one, in the work of each of them, leading to multiple interpretations.

Yerevan (/ˌjɛrəˈvɑːn/; Armenian: Երևան, classical spelling: Երեւան [jɛɾɛˈvɑn], Is the capital and largest city of Armenia, and one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. Situated along the Hrazdan River, Yerevan is the administrative, cultural, and industrial center of the country. It has been the capital since 1918, the thirteenth in the history of Armenia, and the seventh located in or around the Ararat plain.
The history of Yerevan dates back to the 8th century BC, with the founding of the fortress of Erebuni in 782 BC by king Argishti I at the western extreme of the Ararat plain. Erebuni was designed as a great administrative and religious centre, a fully royal capital. During the centuries long Iranian rule over Eastern Armenia that lasted from the early 16th century up to 1828, it was the center of Iran's Erivan khanate administrative division from 1736. In 1828, it became part of Imperial Russia alongside the rest of Eastern Armenia which conquered it from Iran through the Russo-Persian War between 1826 and 1828. After World War I, Yerevan became the capital of the First Republic of Armenia as thousands of survivors of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire settled in the area. The city expanded rapidly during the 20th century as Armenia became part of the Soviet Union. In a few decades, Yerevan was transformed from a provincial town within the Russian Empire, to Armenia's principal cultural, artistic, and industrial center, as well as becoming the seat of national government.
With the growth of the economy of the country, Yerevan has been undergoing major transformation as many parts of the city have been the recipient of new construction since the early 2000s, and retail outlets as much as restaurants, shops, and street cafes, which were rare during Soviet times, have multiplied.
As of 2011, the population of Yerevan was 1,060,138, just over 35% of the Republic of Armenia's total population. According to the official estimate of 2016, the current population of the city is 1,073,700.
Yerevan was named the 2012 World Book Capital by UNESCO. Yerevan is an associate member of Eurocities.
