The San Bernardino train disaster, sometimes known as the Duffy Street incident, was a combination of two separate but related incidents that occurred in San Bernardino, California, United States: a runaway train derailment on May 12, 1989; and the subsequent failure on May 25, 1989, of the Calnev Pipeline, a petroleum pipeline adjacent to the tracks which was damaged by earth-moving equipment during the crash cleanup.

The Great Southern California ShakeOut earthquake drill is based on a magnitude 7.8 scenario earthquake on the San Andreas fault in southern California. This portion of the San Andreas fault has been identified as the most likely source of a very large earthquake in California (Working Group on California Earthquake Probabilities). As part of the earthquake drill, computer simulations of the ground shaking from this scenario earthquake were constructed through a collaborative effort between the USGS and the Southern California Earthquake Center, which involved researchers from the USGS, URS Corporation, San Diego State University, and Carnegie Mellon University. These computer simulations capture the shaking at length scales larger than about 300 ft (100 m) and provide detailed pictures of the shaking for this scenario earthquake.
The magnitude 7.8 scenario earthquake ruptures 186 miles (300 km) of the San Andreas fault from Bombay Beach at the edge of the Salton Sea in the south to Lake Hughes northwest of Palmdale in the north. The final slip (offset across the fault) ranges from 6-23 ft (2-7 m). The colors in the movies indicate the peak intensity of the shaking up to the current time at each location. The movies are available in two different resolutions. The normal resolution versions are typically 10-20 MB in size. The high definition (HD) versions are typically 50-80 MB in size and are best viewed on high resolution displays.

This is an extended ride in Southern California, entering the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Region from the Mojave Desert and the Cajon Pass, ending in Buena Park.
It starts along I-15 South past Victorville and Hesperia, entering the Cajon Pass. After the pass, the ride goes onto I-215 South into San Bernardino before switching to CA 210 West. The ride follows CA 210 West along the northern edge of the region to CA 57 South, before following that route to CA 91 around Fullerton. The ride then concludes along CA 91 West to Buena Park and past I-5.

US 66/US 91/US 395 - The Mother Road - Cajon Blvd North through the Cajon Pass

In this video we traverse the Cajon Pass before the Blue Cut Fire that jumped the old road and burned down the historic Summit Inn. This portion of the road was defined by the state in 1916, later being assigned the Legislative Route Number (LRN) of 31 in the 1930's. In 1926, it was certified for US 66, and was later co-signed with US 395 and US 91. While the road we travel on is not the exact original route - which has been eroded away - it's generally accepted as the oldest route and it marked in my video as such.
In Hesperia, US 395 jumped off the multiplex (now under I-15) onto LRN 145, while US 66 and 91 continued on LRN 31 to Barstow.
Perhaps the main road that turned people into Road Geeks, US Route 66 played a major role in the United States. From trade to leisurely travel, to dust bowl escapees, and more, US 66 rose to popularity in the 1930's and became the highlight of the Nat Cole Trio song (Get Your Kicks On) Route 66. John Steinbeck coined the term 'The Mother Road', as for many early Route 66 travelers all they had left were the things they could pack, and the road. The road helped California flourish even more, particularly the agriculturally rich Central Valley.
Route 66 is the most widely known road in history, rising to further fame in the 1980's after it's decommissioning as a Historic Route. All the states that Route 66 ran through now have Route 66 Associations, keeping track of modifications, maintenance, and preservation of the historic road.
