Mallorca (Majorca) is one of the jewels of the Mediterranean. Enjoying a mild climate for most of the year, it is ideal for relaxing beach holidays, outdoor sports, and gastronomic getaways.
Day trip from Palma, a perfect beach holiday destination.
- Valldemossa
The town of Valldemossa is only around 15-20 minutes’ drive from Palma de Mallorca into the Tramuntana mountains.
Valldemossa has been home to Chopin and Latin American writers like Argentina’s Jorge Luis Borges and the great Nicaraguan poet Rúben Dario.
It is a very attractive tourist destination, as it shows early Spanish culture. There are many shops and restaurants to indulge in Spanish culture.
- Cala Deià
The old village of Deia is located between Soller and Valldemossa on the north west coast of Mallorca. The beach Cala Deia lies close to Deia.
Cala Deia is a very beautiful small shingle beach, one of the few beaches on the west coast of Mallorca.
The water here is a beautiful clear turquoise and very enticing for swimming. Due to the rocky nature of the cove sides, it is also a popular spot for snorkelling.

CIEE Palma de Mallorca, Spain - Students hiking from Soller to Deià
This is our hike from Port de Soller to Muleta's refuge where we spent the night. Next day we hiked the beautiful path by the Mediterranean sea to Deià. In Deià we walked up to the cemetery to see the incredible views of Tramuntana's Valley. We had a lot of fun walking in the mountain.

Cala Deia is a very beautiful small shingle beach with clear waters and rock pools. It's one of the few beaches on the west coast of Mallorca, but don't expect miles of golden sand - it's far more rugged here and you'll need to bring a chair or a lilo to lie on!
There are a number of terraces which are popular with artists as they set up their easels for a day of painting. The sea is wonderfully clear and inviting and perfect to cool off in on a hot summer's day. The beach is served by two excellent Majorcan restaurants where you can sit and enjoy the spectacular surroundings.

The capital of the island, Palma, is also the capital of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. The Balearic Islands have been an autonomous region of Spain since 1983. The Cabrera Archipelago is administratively grouped with Majorca (in the municipality of Palma). The anthem of Majorca is La Balanguera.
Like the other Balearic Islands of Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera, the island is an extremely popular holiday destination, particularly for tourists from Germany and the United Kingdom. The international airport, Palma de Mallorca Airport, is one of the busiest in Spain; it was used by 23.1 million passengers in 2014.
The name derives from Latin insula maior, larger island; later Maiorica, the larger one in comparison to Minorca, the smaller one.
Topography
Majorca is the largest island of Spain by area and second most populated (after Tenerife in the Canary Islands).
Majorca has two mountainous regions, the Serra de Tramuntana and Serres de Llevant. Each are about 70 km (43 mi) in length and occupy the north-western and eastern parts of the island respectively.

Beautiful Relaxing Deia, Mallorca, Espana
Relaxing quiet village of Deia in Mallorca, Espana.
Time Lapse of a Beautiful Day at Cala de Deià, Mallorca
On the west coast of Mallorca, nestled in the Tramuntana Mountains, you will find this picturesque cove. It has been named one of the world's best beaches more than once!
To arrive, you have to go down some narrow, winding residential roads. There's not a lot of parking, so if you choose to go - go early!

Cala Formentor Beach, North Mallorca
A wonderful strip of sandy beach in the north west of Majorca
Cala Formentor is one of the most beautiful spots on the island and as a result, is very popular. It's situated in the north west of Majorca, on the Bay of Pollenca and is a Blue Flag beach.
With a stunning backdrop of pine forest and views to the mountains, it is easy to understand the attraction. The turquoise blue sea is crystal clear and the beach is made from very fine white sand. It does stretch for around 850 metres so you may be able to find a spot to spread out. Trees overhang the beach so there is plenty of shade in the hot summer months.
There is a public bus service and a car park (€5 parking fee), or a more relaxing way to get there is to take a boat from Port de Pollenca. The bay is also popular with private boats thanks to the beautiful surroundings and excellent anchoring conditions.
You can read more about the beach at Formentor in our Beach Review or about the time we took a Boat Trip from Port Pollensa to Formentor Beach.
The nearest resort to Cala Formentor is Port de Pollenca.
