This footage was taken of a floating village in Kampong Chhnang, Cambodia in 2009. We were about mid-way around the Tonle Sap, Southeast Asia's largest lake, on our way to Battambang.

The Tonle Sap River flows from Cambodia's largest lake, the Tonle Sap to Phnom Penh where it meets up with the Mekong River. We stopped in Kampong Chhnang and hired a lady with a narrow wooden boat to take us around Phoum Kandal, a floating village on the river.

Chnok Tru Floating Village at Baribo District in Kampong Chhnang Province
We visited Chnok Tru village the first time but Mr. Sambo came here 2 times already. He lead the way to this place. Chnok Tru is a floating village on Tonle Sap river but we traveled to this place in dry season so we can get there by car. In rainy season, there's no road for car only boats can access to this village. They will live on a floating house in rainy season and catch fishes for a living.
Our trip start from Toul Kork in Phnom Penh city, we had breakfast at a restaurant near Camko city traffic light/circle and head off to national road no.5 to Kampong Chhnang province to pick up 3 more friends at Sala Lek 5. We continue to Boribo district and turn right at a fork road where Boribo district office is and go on a village path to Chnok Tru. It's dry and smelly as they make trey-prahok (salty fish paste preparing and processing). It's fishing village and community on Tonle Sap river. Most of Cambodian people living here but many Vietnamese people are living here too. It's a good place to catch fishes and can take a boat tour sightseeing the lives & floating houses on the river too. This place is located at Chnok Tru village, Chnok Tru commune, Baribo district, Kampong Chhnang province, Cambodia, Southeast Asia. This trip jointed by my wife, Mr. Sambo, Sambo's wife, Sambo's daughter, Mycurl, Somata, Narita, Narita's mom, and the 3 guys from Sala Lek 5 in Kampong Chhnang Mr. Mengheang, Pisey, Veasna. We have 2 mini Van 15 seats, Mr. Seyha and Narita are drivers. Chnok Tru floating is the most tourist destination and tourist attraction in rainy season.

Cambodia is an amazing place. Not because of the scenery or the food, but because of the people. Millions of Cambodians live in poverty and often don't have enough money to support their families. Many also die due to poor sanitation and drinking of unclean water.
However, despite all of this, Cambodians have an amazing spirit. They are some of the most friendly and happy people I've ever met. The children that I met were extremely enthusiastic and so much fun.
These wonderful people have taught me the importance of cherishing what we have, and being grateful for the life we are given. They struggle everyday and yet they never fail to smile. It has been a great experience and certainly one I will never forget.

Village Festival 2018 at Kampong Preah Temple in Kampong Chhnang Province
It's the same trip to Chnok Tru on Tonle Sap river. We just left Chnok Tru floating village and heading to the village festival 2018 at Kampong Preah temple and pagoda. There will be 2 days of the village festival which fall on 31st May and 1st April 2018. This video was on 31st May, we got there a little early as the event start from 2pm onward to late night. We walked around and had lunch by Kampong Preah temple. We have 14 people in this trip and it's a big picnic lunch under a banyan tree shade next to the temple. We packed foods from home like fried chicken, fried prahok ktis (Cambodian cheese & coconut milk), chab_chhay (mixed veggie soup), dried fish, grilled sausages and more. After lunch, we enjoyed dancing in front of the stage of the Bon Phum as they played the Khmer traditional music for everyone to dance and enjoy. They played lots of popular games like chol_chhoong, tug_of_war, break clay pots... We really enjoyed the day at Bon Phum 2018 (Village Festival 2018) at Kampong Preah pagoda, Kampong Preah village, Chnok Tru commune, Baribo district, Kampong Chhnang province, Cambodia, Southeast Asia. This place is Cambodian historical site as there's ancient temples, secret cave, lots of professors gathering in the past, and never flooded the hill of Kampong Preah pagoda and temple. We wish to stay till late at night but some of us need to travel to Veal Veng district and some need to be back home early so we have go. Bye Bye Bon Phum and dancing. We miss you and hope to be back on a boat ride in the future.
